s one of the busiest venues in the UK, 2011 was perhaps our most ambitious year with the launch of the Edwin Street Recording Studio and September’s Ramsbottom Festival. Our consistently busy and varied programme reflects the support of our audiences who attend from throughout the northwest and give us the opportunity to improve our programme, deliver more projects and play a bigger role in our community. In such difficult times I would like to make a special mention to our funding partners, corporate partners and individual donors for
seeing the potential and value we bring to Bury and continue to invest in our work. In December we welcomed Mill Gate Shopping Centre as a new corporate partner and look forward to working with them this year. This season’s brochure is packed with new ideas and new projects, including a jazz school, a clowning course, Stride dance for young men and a bigger and better Big Whistle Festival.

This energetic and original traditional power-trio also incorporates the dynamism of today’s North American and European folk cultures in their music.
Paris 1945. Christiane waits for a ticket to England that will reunite her with her fiancé. While she waits, this irrepressible mademoiselle recounts the love story between her – an eccentric, acutely-myopic Parisian – and a tongue-tied English teacher from Staffordshire. From a chance encounter at Cheadle tennis club, their story takes us on to cosmopolitan 1930s Paris before their inevitable separation by war. A separation which she hopes, today, will finally come to an end. A tender, comical and ultimately poignant portrayal of one woman’s experience of love and war.

The Bad Company and Mott The Hoople guitarist is joined by some of the best-known names on the current blues scene to play blues and R’n’B favourites – from B.B. Two men walk into a pub – and then it stops being normal. Pints are drunk. Conversation spans the creation of the universe, the meaning of happiness, the chemistry of pork scratchings – and how they seem to know more about each other than strangers could, or should. And how they both recollect dreams in which they met Laurel and Hardy, and each other.
As the alcohol kicks in Simon and Peter find themselves lurching towards an unnerving world, where it becomes a distinct possibility that they are Laurel and Hardy reincarnated... but that’s absurd – isn’t it? This funny, tender, melancholic and puzzling play comes from the company who created recent hit shows Meeting Joe Strummer and Don’t Shoot The Clowns.
