WELCOME TO THE MET Autumn is always an exciting time of year for The Met but for 2013 it gets even better with two exciting festivals to look forward to. For the third year of Ramsbottom Festival we’re delighted to welcome The Bridgewater Hall as a partner who have helped us to deliver our best line-up yet. We’ve put together a great programme of talented artists from all over the UK and we hope you join us for what has become a very special weekend for Bury and beyond.
We’re really excited to take over Bury’s Drill Hall to welcome back Kate Rusby and Seth Lakeman, but please make time to discover the emerging talent performing throughout the weekend. This season The Met is crammed full of music, fringe theatre and comedy. Last year was our greatest ever for number of events and audiences – achieving no 39 in the PRS top 100 UK venues. Not bad for a small scale venue with big ambitions.

Gavin Davenport is one of the leading singers of English song. His debut album won superb reviews and cemented his reputation as a singer amongst the greats in English traditional music. His second album The Bone Yard was partly recorded here at The Met’s Edwin Street Recording Studio.

The title was inspired by Otis’ experiences as a tree-planter where a co-worker would describe ground too hard to dig as “harder than hammered hell.” He also used the phrase for a difficult job, or a tough person. Weds 7.30-9pm alternate weeks from 11 Sept / £5 per week Led by experienced musician and workshop leader Rose Hodgson, SING is a drop-in group that gives you the chance to enjoy the magic of group harmony singing and to experience a wide range of songs from many genres. The group sing unaccompanied (a cappella) and all songs are taught by ear – no music reading ability is necessary. This is a non-performing group – the focus is very much on having fun and enjoying singing for its own sake. Come along and see for yourself!
Fiddle Workshop with Emma Sweeney
Thursdays for 6 weeks from 19 September Intermediate 6-7pm Advanced 7-8pm £50 / £40 conc A wonderful opportunity to explore folk fiddle playing with acclaimed Manchester-based Irish fiddler Emma Sweeney. Explore Irish, Scottish and Bluegrass fiddle tunes. Discuss and explore bowing patterns as well as ornamentation specific to each style. Listen to and dissect fiddle recordings. At least basic violin skills required.
Song Mixing Saturday 7 December 12-3pm / £40 See the process of taking a song from a raw recording through to a final, polished mix ready for radio and hopefully pick up some tips and tricks on eq, compression and effects on the way.

Volunteer A magnetic induction loop for hearing aid users is used in the Main Theatre for the majority of our events. Guide dogs are welcome, and water can be provided on request. If you have any special requirements call us on 0161 761 2216 and we’ll do our best to help.
