From country to comedy… From Shakespeare to salsa… From food to festivals… Welcome to The Met. There are many brilliant things to come and see at The Met this autumn. The venue has never looked or sounded better and we’re thrilled to bring new artists and shows to Bury for you to enjoy. As an organisation committed to improving our communities, we present the touring programme alongside a series of workshops and projects to attract and develop new audiences who will benefit from experiencing high quality, diverse and inspiring music and arts. Of particular note we have a rare performance by the masterful Lemn Sissay, international artists including Seckou Keita in an exciting new collaboration, Trio Dhoore from Flanders, Canada’s Bruce Molsky and Harrow Fair, Finland’s Frigg and a welcome return to one of our longstanding popular shows with the Hot Club of Cowtown from Austin, Texas. The intriguingly named Kenny Young and the Eggplants open our autumn season with a rare UK show on the back of their Edinburgh Festival run.
The Met is well loved by touring artists and we are thrilled to host some exciting new projects and tours entrusted to our legendary listening audiences including Alexis Taylor with Green Gartside, Duke Special’s Hallow inspired by Irish poet Michael Longley and Kris Drever with James Yorkston and Withered Hand in a Songwriters Circle show. We always aim for new experiences and exciting discoveries for you through supporting new live music. The introduction of early evening gigs in The Box, our ground floor studio space, will give you the opportunity to dip into something new or combine with a main concert ticket – Ailbhe Reddy and Worry Dolls both offer an opportunity to see something brilliant at an earlier time. Look out for the badge. Our annual festival – Head for the Hills promises a rich weekend of music and arts in Ramsbottom for which we hope to see you for our seventh year. Otherwise – book yourself in for some amazing, intimate and thrilling evenings of music and theatre here at The Met. David Agnew, artistic director
