The construction of Sta. Cruz Sports Complex located in Brgy. Baliis, Sta. Cruz, is a continuing priority development project of the Municipal Government of Sta. Cruz spearheaded by Mayor Percy Morales in cooperation with Cong. Lord Allan Velasco. Initial funding for the project was obtained through Velasco’s PDAF and other sources such as Cong. Sambar’s PDAF, a recent Marinduque visitor. Infrastructure projects such as covered courts already completed in the towns of Sta. Cruz funded through Velasco’s PDAF or from other sources tapped by him such as senatorial and other congressional PDAFs, include cover courts completed in barangays Banahaw, Lapu-Lapu, Matalaba, Tawiran (in Sta. Cruz) and barangays Bonliw and Malinao in Torrijos. Road projects continue to be undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), as well as farm-to-market road projects in various parts of Sta. Cruz and Torrijos, as well as the other towns in Marinduque. Other barangay projects prioritized by the concerned barangay councils with requests for funding coursed through Velasco are for multi-purpose buildings, classrooms, revetment and water supply systems.

MSC student made it to the Final Top 10 in the College Level in the nationwide Biotech Campus Journalism Contest. From around 100 entries from both public and private high school and colleges all over the country, Richzel Grace D. Lancion, third year student of Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering (BSECE) of the Marinduque State College (MSC), was recognized as one of the Top 10 finalist during the opening ceremonies of the 8th National Biotechnology Week at the Gateway Suites, Cubao, Quezon City, November 26, 2012. With the theme “Benefits and Potentials of Modern Crop Biotechnology in the Philippines,” Lancion submitted her feature article entitled, “The Wonders of Modern Crop Biotechnology” and competed among the students from various regions in the country. Among the Top 10 participating college students came from the University of the Philippines in Diliman & Los Baños, University of Santo Tomas, Misamis University, Benguet State University, Mindanao State University, Pangasinan State University, Tarlac State University, Our Lady of Fatima University and Marinduque State College, respectively. Lancion was the only State College participant who made it all the way to the finals in the College level. Each finalist was recognized and awarded by AGHAM Partylist Representative Angelo B. Palmones in the opening ceremonies at the Gateway Suites and received a Plaque of Recognition, Philippine Science Journalists Association, Inc. (PSciJourn) medal and Php2,000 cash prize. The Biotech Campus Journalism Contest is a part of the celebration of the 8th National Biotechnology Week organized by

the Philippine Science Journalists Association, Inc. (PSciJourn), AGHAM Partylist, the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA) and Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture-Biotechnology Information Center (SEARCA BIC), associated by the departments of Health, Education, Agriculture, Environment, Local Government, Science, Trade and Investment; and the Commission on Higher Education.

Mahigit 1,000 sumali sa Job Fair 2012 By Luis T. Cueto CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro, (PIA) -- Umabot sa humigit kumulang sa isang libong aplikanteng Mindoreño at mahigit sa 300 kliyente ng Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) para sa renewal ng kanikanilang lisensya at nag-file ng aplikasyon para sa Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) Examination para sa susunod na taon ang naserbisyuhan sa Provincial Job Fair sa Governor Alfonso L. Umali, Sr. Gym kamakailan lamang. Bilang pagtalima sa direktiba ni Umali, sa Public Employment Service Office (PESO) na pinamumunuan ni Antonio M. Magnaye, Jr. na magkaroon ng mas madalas na Job Fair sa loob ng isang taon, dalawang beses na isinasagawa ng PESO ang Provincial Job Fair sa isang taon samantalang isang beses sa isang buwan ang special recruitment activity ng iba’t ibang ahensyang nagmula pa sa mga lalawigan ng Cavite, Laguna, Batangas at maging sa Maynila. Ayon kay Umali, isa itong napakagandang programa na direktang napapakinabangan ng mga Mindoreño. Masaya rin niyang ibinalita ang pagtungo niya sa mga bansang Dubai at Abu Dhabi upang ipakilala doon ang mga produktong Mindoro at magkaloob na rin ng livelihood program para sa mga Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) ng lalawigan. Samantala, nagkaloob din ng livelihood assistance ang Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) at Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) sa mga kwalipikadong benepisyaryo sa lalawigan. Katuwang ng pamahalaang panlalawigan sa Job Fair ang OWWA, sa pangunguna ni OWWA IV-B Regional Director Danny Flores at DOLE IV-B Assistant Regional Director Alvin Villamor. Romblon PNP Maritime Group, nabiyayaan ng fast craft By Dinnes Manzo ROMBLON, Romblon, (PIA) --- Isa ang 405th Maritime Police Station Regional Maritime Unit 4A na nakabase sa Romblon,Romblon ang mapalad na pinagkalooban ng police fast boat bilang karagdagang pasilidad upang higit na mapaganda ang serbisyo ng Pulis Pangkaragatan ng lalawigan. Kamakailan lang ay pormal na ibinigay ang isa sa tatlumpong Police Fast Boat sa Romblon sa pamumuno ni PCSupt Henry Losañes CEO VI, Director, Maritime Group mula sa Camp Crame. Sa pakikipagtulungan nina PSSupt Joselito T. Nicodemus, Regional Maritime Unit 4A at Governor Eduardo “Lolong” Firmalo ay nakamit ng probinsiya ang hinihinging Police Fast Boat na magagamit sa pangangalaga ng karagatan. Ayon kay Police Inspector Ramirez, dahil ang lalawigan ng Romblon ay binubuo ng Island Municipalities, malaki ang maitutulong ng bagong fast craft sa pagsugpo sa mga umaabuso sa yamang dagat nito. Dagdag pa ng nakatalagang hepe ng Romblon PNP Maritime Station na si Police Inspector Sancho A. Ramirez, labis ang pasasalamat ng kanyang grupo sa natanggap na PFB 210. Ito ay gawa ng Stonework Specialist International Corporation isang matatag na manufacturer ng mga speedboats na gawa sa fiber glass, ito ay may dalawang Suzuki Outboard Motors na may lakas na 150 horse power at kayang tumakbo sa bilis na 37 knots. Ang PFB 210 ay kumpleto rin sa navigational equipments gaya ng Global Position Systems (GPS) at radio receiver/ transceiver. Pangunahing misyon ng Police Fast Boat 210, na habulin ang mga ilegal na mangingisda lalo na ang gumagamit ng dinamita at cyanide, mga ilegal na pagtransport ng kahoy na inilulusot sa baybaying dagat ng Sibuyan island at iba pang mahahalagang operasyon laban sa krimen. Nagsanib pwersa rin ang Romblon Provincial Police Office at PNP Maritime Group upang magkaisa sa iisang layunin. Ito ay upang sugpuin ang patuloy na paglabag at pagabuso ng mga mapagsamantala sa mayamang karagatan sa lalawigan at higit pang protektahan ang likas na yamang-dagat na patuloy pa ring masagana sa karagatang nakapaligid sa Romblon. Batay sa napagkasunduan nina PSSupt Leo A. Tumolva, Provincial Director, Romblon Provincial Police Office at Police Inspector Sancho A. Ramirez, Chief - Romblon PNP Maritime Station, maari ring gamitin ng kapulisan ang naturang speed boat sa kanilang operasyon lalo na sa panahon ng medical evacuation sa panahon ng kalamidad.(PJM/DM/PIA-IVB/Romblon)

DA-4B, pinangunahan ang Rubber Plantation Management Training By Orlan C. Jabagat PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan, (PIA) -- Pinangunahan ni Hernani M. Lapid, Regional Focal Person on Rubber ng Department of Agriculture, Regional Field Unit ng Region IV-B ang Rubber Plantation Training II na isinagawa sa sa Victoriano J. Rodriguez Hall ng gusaling Kapitolyo kamakailan. Tinalakay ni Lapid ang paksa sa global updates ng rubber, presyo at ang demand nito sa merkado. Naisakatuparan ang nasabing pagsasanay sa pakikipag-ugnayan ng Provincial Agriculturist Office (OPA) ng pamahalaang panlalawigan sa DA. Dinaluhan ito ng mga nagtatanim ng puno ng goma mula sa mga munisipyo ng Aborlan, Narra, Sofronio Espanola, Brooke’s Point, Quezon, Rizal, Balabac, Roxas, San Vicente at El Nido. Samantala, naging tagapagsalita din sa pagsasanay si Dr. Eugenio A. Alcala, miyembro ng Board of Directors ng International Rubber Development Board. Ibinahagi nito ang mga tamang pamamaraan sa pag-aalaga ng puno ng goma ka-

sama na ang tamang paggamit ng fertilizer upang lumaki ng maayos ang mga puno. Ayon kay Gng. Frauline B. Castillo, Agriculture Technologist ng OPA, layunin ng pagsasanay na malaman ng mga nagtatanim ng goma ang tamang pangangalaga sa mga rubber tree. At kung anong kailangang gawin kung ito ay tamaan ng sakit at peste. Ito ang ikalawang pagsasanay na isinagawa ng OPA para sa mga rubber tree growers ng lalawigan. Palawan disaster office conducts water rescue training By Victoria Asuncion S. Mendoza PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan, (PIA) -- The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) concluded a three-day training to better equip first responders with knowledge and skills on water safety, survival, and rescue. The project is a collaboration of the PDRRMO with the Office of the Civil Defense Region 4B and was administered by the Special Operations Group of the Philippine Coast Guard. There were 59 participants from the PDRRMO and its municipal counterparts from Araceli, Dumaran, Taytay, Roxas, Quezon, Narra, Balabac, and Bataraza. The training consisted of lectures and demonstrations on swimming strokes, water entry, rescue methodologies, water treading, breathholding, bottom sampling, and knot tying. To pass the training and to receive the certificate as a water rescuer, a participant had to do the actual applications of all that were taught and demonstrated including the completion of the one-mile swim at the Puerto Princesa Bay. The graduates are now known as rescuers of Pawikan Class 112012. (LBR/VSM/PIA4B-Palawan)
