Aruban leaders join expatriates of the Dominican Republic in celebration of 170 years of Independence

ORANJESTAD -- The Consul General of the Dominican Republic to Aruba, Senora Joseline Rosario de Rosa was proud to receive Aruba’s Governor Fredis Refunjol and Prime Minister Mike Eman along with other local dignitaries for the formal observance of the 170th anniversary of independence of her homeland. The formal ceremony was

conducted yesterday morning at the monument of General Juan Pablo Duarte Diaz, considered “The Father of D/R Independence,” in downtown Oranjestad. Attending the ritual flag-raising were members of the Caribbean Volunteer Fire Fighters. Consul de Rosa and Prime Minister Eman addressed the gathering, both speaking of the kinship of the islands. The

consul noted the particularly warm reception Aruba has given to those who have immigrated here from her homeland, and the PM confirmed to the audience of the importance of integrating and accepting those who come to Aruba and enriched its cultural diversity. One of those individuals is Ana Romana Campos Garcia, who was honored by Consul de Campo for her decades of promoting and maintaining Dominican folkloric culture among her compatriots on Aruba, keeping it alive though subsequent generations. Floral wreaths were placed at the base of the monument by Consul de Rosa on behalf of the Dominican Republic, by Prime Minister Eman and Secretary of the Aruban Cabinet of Ministers, Nicole Hoevertsz, representing the Aruban people, and by the President and

Secretary of Parliament, Marisol Lopez-Tromp, on behalf of the Parliament.
