Photography Tours & Workshops

Welcome We hope you enjoy our latest seasonal brochure, which is packed with ideas to inspire your Wildlife Photography holidays for 2022 and beyond. In this issue, we highlight our photography tours region by region, wildlife photographer Bret Charman writes about the magic of photographing Arctic fox in Iceland and we share details of our tailor-made photography holidays. We are constantly looking for new and exciting Photography Tours and Workshops to add to our collection, as well as new expert leaders … and our portfolio continues to expand as a result. We’ve included a calendar on pages 18 and 19 to help you plan your next exciting photographic adventure in 2022 and 2023.

Our Photography Tours At Wildlife Worldwide, we offer over 70 dedicated small group Photography Tours and Workshops to suit all abilities. Our range of holidays has been designed to offer the perfect combination of outstanding wildlife viewing, exceptional photography opportunities and expert tuition. All of our holidays are led by expert photographers, most of whom are award-winning and/or work as professional photographers, and have a wealth of technical skills and field experience.

What to Expect on a Wildlife Worldwide Photography Tour

On all our Photography Tours, you will have plenty of opportunity to develop your technical skills through a series of informal workshops ‘in the field’. Suitable for all levels, from basic to advanced, the workshops cover a variety of photographic techniques and skills relevant to the subject matter and/or particular habitat. Expert photographic leaders will offer as much one-to-one time and tuition as is feasible, and the pace of the trips is such that there is ample time to get the most from the photographic potential of each location visited.

Tailor-made Holidays

The focus is yours with our tailor-made photography holidays. Take advantage of our extensive destination knowledge and expert team of photographic leaders to create your dream photography trip. From UK workshops to extended overseas trips, the choice is yours.

O

ver the years we have curated a remarkable selection of group tours dedicated to wildlife photography. These have ventured from the poles, through rainforests, savannahs and mountains to observe and photograph some of the world’s most spectacular wildlife in their natural habitats. Following the success of these small group trips, we are now combining the photography focus with our extensive experience of creating bespoke tailor-made holidays. Some of the best photography leaders in the industry will be on hand to provide exclusive tuition on your itinerary and date of choice. Our new tailor-made photography option gives you the flexibility to choose when, where and with whom you wish to travel. Select from one of our existing photography itineraries or ask our team to help design a unique itinerary specifically tailored for you. You may have a target species or specific ecosystem you wish to photograph or you may wish to develop techniques and skills in a dedicated workshop. Regardless of your aim, the focus is yours and the options are many. Our specialist team of photography leaders (see page 3) offer a range of expertise, from landscape, macro and general wildlife photography to a documentary and conservation focus. We can help you to decide the best-matched leader to accompany you and develop your technical skills through personalised tuition ‘in the field’. A UK-based tailor-made workshop provides the perfect opportunity to familiarise yourself with a new leader and to focus on a particular aspect of photography. Hunker down in the New Forest, unseen by the browsing red deer stag, as you frame its noble antlers amongst the bracken, refine macro techniques amongst the plant, fungi and insect life, or focus on the turquoise kingfisher adorning a perch across the pond from a hide in Hampshire. Your expert photographic guide seated next to you will provide the tips required for you to capture the jewel-like bird as its beak breaks the water before momentarily disappearing in its dive for fish. Venturing to a remote private hide in Finland, play with composition as bears and wolverine navigate the boreal forests, or add a colourful blur of motion into your Zambia safari gallery as you perch along the banks of the Luangwa River, bustling with bee-eaters, before you cross the grassy plains and woodlands to photograph the prolific wildlife. These are our suggestions, but the options are endless so be sure to contact our expert team to create your own tailor-made photography holiday.

Arctic Foxes of Iceland

Tour leader and team member Bret Charman shares the magic of coming face-to-face with Arctic foxes in the remote Hornstrandir Nature Reserve in north-west Iceland.

In March 2022 I led our first Arctic Fox Photography trip in Iceland’s Hornstrandir National Park. This remote peninsula, situated in Iceland’s north-west, is considered to be one of Europe’s most remote regions. Based at the isolated Kviar Lodge, we photographed these charismatic mammals in all weathers. On arrival in the town of Ísafjörður, we were transferred the short distance to the harbour where we boarded the boat to take us across to Kviar Lodge. We made a wet landing on the rocky foreshore, after an hour’s journey across the fjord, before carrying our bags up the steep snow bank a hundred yards or so to the lodge. Kviar Lodge is a basic, but comfortable wilderness lodge that provides the perfect refuge from the Arctic weather that abounds in this rugged landscape. Situated in a picturesque fjord, the lodge is in prime Arctic fox habitat and one doesn’t need to wander far to capture some breathtaking imagery. There is something magical when an animal sees you as a curiosity. One particular fox, had clearly grown up seeing people on a regular basis and was particularly obliging. In fact, the problem was often that she came too close to

16

photograph with telephotos lenses and so wide-angle lenses and even phones often became the preferred option. In total, throughout the duration of the two trips, I saw eight different foxes, each with their own characteristics and appearance. Four of the foxes were easily photographed, all in a range of different scenes, from the rocky foreshore to the high snow banks and fields. Whether you are using a telephoto or wide-angle lens, the photography is second to none. This is a tour for the adventurous, a trip for those looking to embrace the wilderness and reap the rewards of focussing on an individual species. If you are looking to capture a wealth of images of the Arctic fox, keep Iceland in mind and join us on a future photography adventure based at Kviar Arctic Fox Photography Join wildlife photographer Bret Charman on this six-night trip which has been designed to maximise photographic opportunities of Arctic fox in the remote Hornstrandir Nature Reserve in Iceland. The area is well known for its charismatic population of these endearing mammals. 22 & 28 Mar 2023 7 days, from £3,395
