Spectacular Squirrel Photo Workshop Tour Leader Kevin Morgans describes our new photography workshop dedicated to celebrating the photogenic red squirrel. From our charming base in the Yorkshire Dales, this short break provides the perfect opportunity to photograph red squirrels in all their glory!
O
ne of our most iconic mammals, with its twitching ear tufts, bushy tail and beautiful colouration, it's no wonder the red squirrel is among the most cherished of British species to watch and photograph. Once widespread across the country, for most, just catching a glimpse of a red squirrel is now a rare event that's only possible in a small number of locations outside of the Scottish Highlands. Although there are several locations where red squirrels can be seen, photographing them remains challenging. The use of specialist hides, designed with photography in mind, creates unrivalled photographic potential and offers the best chance of capturing this charismatic species on camera. For our new specialist red squirrel photography workshop, we've teamed up with a local Yorkshirebased photographer and Kevin Morgans to offer the most outstanding red squirrel photography experience imaginable. Our base is a charming country hotel on the northern edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Known for its distinctive and atmospheric landscapes, the park's woodlands are a refuge for many nationally rare species, including an important population of red squirrel.
and the warm colours of early autumn. This rich palate serves as a stunning backdrop when a squirrel pauses to eat a nut, or takes that first sip from the mirror-perfect reflection pool. For the ultimate pictures, we can switch our focus to capturing the agility of the squirrels at the dedicated jumping platform. Red squirrels are capable of leaping distances of more than two metres - an impressive feat for an animal that's only 25 centimetres high, and a thrill to observe. Photographing this behaviour is even more special and rewarding. It takes patience and practice to capture this exciting moment, but with luck, the image will stay with you forever. Red squirrels are wonderful animals to spend time with. At this quiet woodland site, there are usually several around at any given time, giving us near-constant activity. Throughout our workshop, I'll be on hand to offer advice and help you to ensure that you get the most from your time in the field. We'll also have an opportunity to review images and work on processing when we're back at the hotel. No matter how much experience you have in photography, you're sure to come away feeling inspired by new photographic techniques and with a stunning collection of images to treasure.
Over the course of our workshop, we have exclusive access to various hides, including a reflection pool hide, and woodland hides which feature a unique jumping platform - an unsurpassed photographic highlight! Here squirrels can be photographed frozen in time, in the midst of athletic mid-air leaps. The reflection pool hide offers a fantastic opportunity to see and photograph the squirrels while they're feeding, drinking and even playing in the water. In still conditions, you can obtain perfect reflection images against a clean woodland floor backdrop. The woodland hide has been purposely designed to enable comfortable photography, with windows offering views of perches on three sides. At the front of the hide, there are dual-height windows which allow for shots of squirrels on the trees, on the taller or lower perches or ground-level shots. We've timed our workshop to provide soft morning light

Hungary
Fabulous Wildlife Photography Wildlife Photographer and Zoologist, Mark Carwardine, invites you to join him in Hungary for sublime bird photography using specialist hides. Here he gives an insight into the highlights of his tour 'Wildlife Photography in Hungary'.
I
f, like me, you love wildlife photography, this trip is an unmissable treat, and one of my absolute favourites! The week involves unlimited and exclusive use of up to 24 of the best wildlife photography hides in the world (the precise number depends on the season). Designed and built by my great friend, multi-award-winning Wildlife Photographer Bence Máté, they offer dazzling perspectives (including treetop and waterlevel shooting) in some truly wonderful settings. Bence pioneered the use of one-way windows in photography hides, which enhances the experience beyond belief. One thing I can't stress enough is that anyone with an interest in wildlife photography will benefit - beginners and experienced photographers alike. Don't worry if you feel you don't have enough photographic knowledge or the most impressive kit, I promise you'll get some wonderful images and experiences out of the trip. I'll be on hand to help, of course, and will spend time with you in the hides as you practice and perfect your skills. And, if you're experienced, the week will open a whole new world of stunning photographic opportunities. So what's a typical week like? After a short-haul flight to Budapest, we travel to Bence's clean and comfortable farm a couple of hours south, and this is our base for the week. There's wildlife absolutely everywhere. It's like going back in time to the wildliferich Britain of 100 years ago - with the added bonus of a plethora of strikingly healthy bird populations from Eastern Europe too. We have lunches and dinners together, usually sitting outside, with ground squirrels at our feet, swallows filling the air above, and everything from lesser spotted woodpeckers to turtle doves in the trees around us. We rave about the most recent half-day shoot to the ever-present soundtrack of cuckoos and golden orioles, and plan who would like to go where for the next half-day shoot. There's a lot of flexibility - if you fancy starting at 4am, that's fine; if you'd prefer a lie-in and to start later, that's fine too. It's entirely up to you. Depending on the season, we can even shoot overnight, with natural and artificial lighting.
unaware that we're watching them a few metres away behind the glass, just a short walk or a short drive away. Depending on the season, we'll be photographing everything from white-tailed eagles, bitterns, little owls and hawfinches to spoonbills, black woodpeckers, European bee-eaters and hoopoes, with otters, hares and roe deer, thrown in for good measure. We've even had pine martens at some of the drinking stations too. I've never experienced such amazing hides anywhere in the world. They offer unparalleled photography opportunities (in comfort, too). For example, if you fancy shooting herons, egrets, storks and spoonbills from a few metres away you might choose the Theatre Hide (which is mostly underwater - you stay perfectly dry, but shoot at water level with fantastic perspectives of the birds). If you'd prefer to shoot blackcaps, green woodpeckers or sparrowhawks up-close you might choose one of the drinking stations. Or you might fancy a morning photographing hoopoes or bee-eaters from one of the specialist hides. How about swallows collecting mud for their nests right in front of another sunken hide? Or kingfishers diving into the water for fish? You might even prefer a change from birds - otters, for example, or ground squirrels. I'll rotate between hides to spend as much time with everyone as possible. By the end of the holiday, I guarantee you'll have a stunning collection of new wildlife photographs and you'll leave feeling inspired with lots of thoughts and creative ideas. On average, I take 20,000-30,000 photographs in a typical week at the farm. And, of course, we always have a lot of laughs along the way.
We don't have to travel far to find our subjects each day - there's a smorgasbord of charismatic species,

Kenya
The Great Rift Valley by Day & Night Photographer Sean Weekly has always enjoyed diurnal and nocturnal photography and the varied photographic opportunities that different times of day create. Sean leads our new tour to Kenya where you can experience and photograph the wildlife of the region by day and night.
F
ollowing the huge success of our Zimanga - Wildlife & Night Sky Photography tour in South Africa, I'm delighted to be working with Wildlife Worldwide to develop our portfolio of photography tours, particularly those that combine diurnal and nocturnal photography. For 2025, we've created a new tour to Kenya which incorporates a similar approach.
the conservancies and we can spread out across two vehicles, providing plenty of space for everyone. Of course, with photography being our primary focus, we endeavour to make the most of the 'golden hours' every day. However, the length of each drive really depends on the sightings that we encounter. Having exclusive use of the lodge and its two vehicles affords us this level of flexibility.
Kenya is perhaps best known for its annual wildebeest migration, but the Great Rift Valley is a vast area of wilderness and filled with some other exceptional wildlife. The 25,000-hectare Olkiramatian Conservancy, situated to the north of Lake Natron, is home to a staggering diversity of wildlife and is perfect for those with a passion for wildlife photography.
In the evenings, we have the option of a night drive or a session in the onsite photography hide overlooking the waterhole. With strategically positioned backlighting, it offers the opportunity to get some stunning images. Whilst species can never be guaranteed, previous visitors have included leopard, African wild cat, caracal, serval, striped hyena and porcupine.
Situated on the edge of the Nguruman Escarpment, we have exclusive use of the beautiful Lentorre Lodge for a 7-night stay. Offering game drives twice a day and exclusive use of a purpose-built photography hide, the lodge is the perfect place to base ourselves and become immersed in the host of photographic opportunities that can be found in the Great Rift Valley.
The itinerary as a whole should provide many chances to photograph a wide range of mammalian and avian subjects, in different settings and light conditions, allowing you to experiment with various shots and fully utilise the tuition and guidance available. Experiencing this mesmerising region of Kenya by night and day allows us to enjoy all the variegations of its wildlife and photographic opportunities, whilst staying in an exclusive, luxury lodge in the heart of the African wilderness. What's not to like?
We have exclusive access to the Olkiramatian Conservancy as well as access to the neighbouring 62,700-hectare Shompole Conservancy for our game drives. There's also the opportunity to visit the nearby Lake Magadi, where we can photograph the flamingos feeding in the caustic waters. The trip has been designed to coincide with the end of the dry season, when water levels in the area are at their lowest and the wildlife is drawn to the lodge's waterhole, thereby maximising our photographic opportunities from the hide. Our daily routine consists of morning and afternoon photographic game drives in

Madagascar
Festival of Wildlife 2026 If you're looking for a wildlife spectacle to a destination like no other, with a team of experts, celebrating some of the planet's most treasured species, then join us on our Festival of Wildlife 2026. Nick Garbutt is one of the world's leading authorities on the wildlife of Madagascar and here introduces this exceptional tour.
I
magine travelling for 12 hours to another planet. Science fiction? Well yes, but getting on a plane to Madagascar might just be comparable. Glance at a map of Africa and it would be easy to dismiss the large odd-shaped island off the south-east coast as nothing more than an insignificant chip off the old continental block. Now think again. Virtually nothing in Madagascar bears resemblance to anything in Africa or anywhere else for that matter. It really is another world. Millions of years of isolation have led to an array of species that have followed unconventional evolutionary pathways unlike anything elsewhere and consequently the vast majority of plants and animals are found nowhere else. The island's most famous inhabitants are its lemurs - charming off-shoots of the primate family tree, whose ancestors arrived on the island over 50 million years ago. They've subsequently diversified spectacularly - today over 100 lemur species are known. Amongst the most endearing are the cuddly teddy bearlike indri and gorgeous diademed sifaka that live in the lush eastern rainforests. Here too are minuscule mouse lemurs and dwarf lemurs, amongst a different cast of characters only visible on the forest stage after dark. There are numerous birds which are unique to the island (over 65% are endemic), including vangas with vastly varied beak shapes, noisy couas and colourful, skulking ground rollers. Reptiles too abound - over 60% of the world's chameleons are found nowhere else, including the world's largest - Parson's chameleon - and smallest, the tiny stumptailed or leaf chameleons. More remarkable still are the amazing leaf-tailed geckos that achieve near-perfect camouflage, resembling tree bark or dead and shrivelled leaves. Add to this a myriad of colourful and very vocal tree frogs and a multitude of peculiar insects like the amazing giraffe-necked weevil and there's an omnipresent throng of accessible wildlife on

hand to grab your attention. Madagascar offers so much variety that it's impossible to pick a single location that encapsulates it all. Nor is it a straightforward country to travel around and explore. Hence, for this Festival, we've chosen two of the island's more accessible and most rewarding locations that in combination offer very different and complementary wildlife highlights and experiences. The first is Andasibe-Mantadia National Park, arguably Madagascar's premier eastern rainforest reserve. Our base is Mantadia Lodge, which allows easy access to several different forest sites, where we should encounter indris, diademed sifakas, several other varieties of lemur, numerous chameleons, and a bewildering array of other species, all at close quarters. We then move onto the beautiful beachfront Anjajavy Lodge in the north-west, where a private deciduous forest reserve is home to stunning Coquerel's sifakas, brown lemurs and even the bizarre and bewitching aye-aye, surely one of the strangest mammals on Earth. Much of Madagascar's extraordinary wildlife is under severe threat, as large areas of the island's unique forests are being removed to grow crops. Sensitive wildlife tourism and working with the local community are integral strategies for the conservation of Madagascar's remaining natural resources. The positive empowerment this brings to local communities is paramount. During this Festival, many of our outings are to community-managed reserves which help to support numerous crucial conservation projects. If you're looking for a wildlife spectacle in a destination like no other, then join our team of enthusiastic experts in 2026 and celebrate some of the planet's most peculiar and treasured species. Magical Madagascar awaits you.
