Falklands & South Georgia Festival of Wildlife
Discover the magical wildlife of the South Atlantic on our charteredvoyage to the Falklands & South Georgia aboard the Magellan Explorer, accompanied by our expert team. Wildlife Worldwide Founder Chris Breen shares an insight into this epic voyage.
Join us for a photographic fiesta on our Festival of Wildlife 2025 in the company of professional wildlife photographers
Mark Carwardine and Nick Garbutt, as well as a highly skilled team of on-board naturalists, a wildlife artist and a wildlife sculptor.
To maximise our time in this incredible environment our epic voyage begins in the Falkland Islands, and our base for the next 14 nights is the exclusively chartered Magellan Explorer, a state-ofthe-art, purpose-built polar vessel.
With the Falklands home to several species that are unlikely to be encountered elsewhere on the trip, we spend our first full day exploring the prime sites of the archipelago, observing bustling colonies of rockhopper and gentoo penguins, and scanning the waters for Peale's and Commerson's dolphins, which are frequently encountered here.
From the Falklands we sail towards South Georgia, where one of the world's most impressive wildlife spectacles awaits.
South Georgia may be only 170 kilometres long, have no trees and be half covered in permanent snow and ice, but this rugged, austere, wintery landscape contrasts markedly with the immense profusion of life that gathers around the coastal areas. The shores are smothered with hundreds of thousands of king, gentoo, chinstrap and macaroni penguins, clifftops are encrusted with breeding albatross, petrels and other sea birds and the beaches are peppered with 6-metre-long elephant seals battling for control of their beaches (and their harems).
This is without question one of the wildlife wonders of the world and it provides unprecedented photographic opportunities - all in long hours of daylight.
Along the way, we'll enjoy an outstanding schedule of entertaining and informative lectures, talks, workshops and masterclasses by Mark Carwardine and Nick Garbutt as well as top polar and wildlife experts, professional photographers and filmmakers.
The departure of our Festival of Wildlife in mid-October is designed to be visiting at an exceptional time as it marks the start of the wildlife migrations and the beginning of the breeding cycle for many species. This extended photographic voyage is sure to provide an unsurpassed depth and variety of experiences that will not only be unforgettable, but also provide a constant steam of peerless photographic opportunities.
