Unit Guide to Element 2 This unit is an Introduction to Study in Higher Education (ISHE) This Unit has three core purposes: 1. To introduce you to learning at undergraduate level 2. To orientate you within your course, the College and the University 3. To induct you into the specific practices and knowledge base of your discipline The unit will enable you to acquire and improve your skills, understanding and approaches to learning that underpin your studies in Year 1, in your course as a whole, and beyond. Emphasis is placed on the skills needed to locate, navigate and communicate information effectively and appropriately. You will be introduced to resources to support your studies. The unit is specifically adapted for magazine publishing students by introducing you to basic technical equipment and production processes used to create multi-platform magazines and to the professional culture and editorial categories and systems prevalent in modern-day publishing.

The Project: Colour Communication We have set a project to run through this unit to help you apply the skills you learn in the workshop sessions to practical learning outcomes. The Colour Communication brief will introduce you to visual communication ideas and encourage you to think about how colour is used in image making and design to create atmosphere and identity within a magazine. The assignment brief is outlined later in this guide.
