The Rotary Club of Vegreville has received a significant funding boost from the Province for its proposed skatepark.
It recently received confirmation that it was successful in obtaining $350,000 from the Province of Alberta under its Community Facility Enhancement Program, (CFEP).
“We are so grateful to have our project chosen for this funding,” stated Patti Johnston, Rotarian and Skatepark Committee Chair.
This project has been a priority of our club for the past 5 years. It has been a lengthy process and the pandemic certainly has not made it easy regarding our fundraising efforts for the skatepark.
This Park will include a skatepark as well as a green space which will include picnic tables, benches, walking paths and dedication trees. This will be an inclusive space for persons with disabilities and the sensory walls that will be in the park will the first in the community. Access to the park will be fully accessible to the entire community no matter their abilities and be a gathering space for all generations.
We are currently working out the final design details with the funds we have in hand. Although we are still in need of $100,000, our goal for 2022 is to begin the groundwork and have the grading and drainage completed prior to snowfall. In 2023, work will commence on skatepark concrete work.
Rotary will continue with our fundraising to obtain the final dollars required to fund this project. Our next fundraiser will be our online spring auction.
We would like to thank the community for it generous support as we raise funds to get up to the finish line on this project.”
MLA Jackie Armstrong-Homeniuk presented the cheque on Jan. 28 stated, “I would like to congratulate the Vegreville Rotary Club on receiving a CFEP grant. Vegreville is very fortunate to have such an active Rotary Club.
