Children were able to express themselves freely through participating in crafts at the Messy Art program at Kalyna Family Resource Network-Vegreville (KFRN-V) on January 2.

Litania Sankey, Spoke Program Facilitator for KFRN-V, said since Valentine’s Day is coming up, they had a Valentine’s Day theme.

“The children made Valentine’s Day wreaths which had a bunch of different Valentine’s Day crafts on it. They put lady bugs, hearts, flowers and other things on a paper plate. Also, I read the children a story relating to Valentine’s Day.

The Messy Art program gives children a chance to express creativity while giving them an opportunity to get their hands messy and play with art instead of having a structured activity. We know that children learn through play. So, this gave children an opportunity to learn through creating a craft,” Sankey explained.
