VVA Members “Show and Tell” at Mundare School
Peavey Mart donates to Food Bank See page 5 for story
Mundare School Submitted Three very talented ladies from the Vegreville Visual Artists group gave of their time and shared their talents with our Junior Highs at Mundare School this fall. Starting with Marg Varga in October, followed by Diane Fausak in November and finally Lois Bienvenue in December, these wonderful artisans not only brought in samples of their work to share with the kiddos but explained the pro-
cess and then gave them a lesson they could take home as well! Marg Varga showed her beautiful fused glass creations and had the students make a mosaic using cellophane and tissue paper (the actual fused glass process involves much work and a kiln!). Diane Fausak brought in her lifelike floral paintings and had the students use actual canvas and easels to create a poppy of their own. Lois Bienvenue wowed the
students with her barn wood framed sketches and had them sketch a picture from their minds. Teacher Tracy Doerksen is greatly appreciative of the VVA’s willingness to become involved in sharing their art with her students and hopes to facilitate more visits in the future. We are so lucky and grateful to have such immensely talented artists in our community and so blessed to have them willing to share their passion and teach the next generation.

Rangers no stranger to community spirit
Teammates from the Vegreville Rangers were busy on December 21 helping pack and deliver hampers for the Vegreville Christmas Bureau. During the month of December the team has been as busy off the ice as they’ve been on the ice with mentoring activities such as St. Martin’s floor hockey, teaching school kids the basics about hockey during their gym class at AL Horton, and of course helping make Christmas a more memorable time for those in need. Coming up in February look for the Rangers annual outdoor road hockey game during Family Day Events. (Photos Submitted)

Mundare School Submitted We kicked Christmas off early this year in November by sending a record Fifty One Shoe boxes to Operation Christmas Child. This was followed by our Christmas Band/Hand chime concert Grade 5,6, and 7/8 “3 trumpeteers” and theatrical production titled “Santa’s Holiday Hoe-down!” Throughout the last two weeks of school before Christmas break, the Grade 7/8 Junior High Leadership team, co-led by Tammy Seney (EA) and Angela Sonnenberg (Gr.7/8 teacher) came up with some very festive, fun and giving Christmas activities to raise not only school spirit but community spirit too! Classes
were challenged to; “Build a Castle” of food to be donated to the Lamont Food Bank (during which we stuffed a jeep with boxes to the roof!) Wear Red, White, Green and Christmas Hats Celebrated Pyjama Day (the day after our evening Christmas concert) Sent Candy Cane Grams to friends and staff! Had a room decorating challenge and Christmas stories read to classes by Santa’s Elves. Jingle Bell Intramurals for grades 1-6 in the gym at lunches. A jolly good time was had by all, and we all wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Rosanne Fortier A Christmas concert can get adults to look at Christmas through the eyes of a child. St. Martin’s Kindergarten Christmas concert did this on December 18 when it opened with Principal Joseph Dumont presenting his interviews with these kindergarten students on the projector. When the young stars were asked what Christmas meant to them, they replied: Christmas means sharing, time spent with family, Santa going down the chimney, opening, giving and playing with presents, caring for others, baby Jesus’ birthday, decorating the Christmas tree, shopping, having a big Christmas party with Christmas games included, and love. Following this, Dumont stated that children can teach adults a lot. After this, the students sang with fervor about taking a walk through Christmas. This song had a lyric that said, ‘Jesus was the present God brought to me.’ Then the children got mushy with Santa as they performed an interactive song where they sang that they love Santa Claus. Let’s Rock around the Christmas tree came on next where the young ones wore sunglasses as they sang and boogied together on the stage. The finale had children sing, We Wish You a Merry Christmas. Each of these winning performances was followed by whistles and a thunderous applause from the audience.

Music for Young Children
January 12, 2015
Music for Young Children students went to the Homestead Lodge on Friday, December 5 to entertain the seniors there. They each played a Christmas song on the piano. There was also two duets, one by a brother/sister team and one by a mother/daughter team. Each age group also performed a rhythm ensemble to accompany a Christmas carol. We ended off with all of the children (36 students) singing for the
seniors some traditional carols; Rudolph the RedNosed Reindeer, The Little Drummer Boy, and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. (Irene Bowen/ Submitted)

Food and money donated to Santa stops in at Andrew School Andrew FCSS
Andrew School Submitted Mr. Cruickshank’s grade 5 & 6 students practiced the gift of giving during the month of December. Students spent every morning collecting nonperishable food items from the classrooms. During their recess they sold many delicious treats for a $1 each. A total of $500 was raised and many boxes of food items were collected.
On Friday, December 19 these students delivered & sorted the food at the Andrew Lions Club building. The food was distributed by the Andrew Family & Community Support Services during this Christmas season and the money was used to buy additional supplies as needed. Mr. Cruickshank summed it up by saying “The students were very eager to participate in helping their
community. They demonstrated that kindness and empathy are gifts that all children possess in their hearts. This was also shown in the selfless generosity of the many parents who baked squares, cookies, cupcakes, and doughnuts every day for 10 days in a row. Our school is like a family and we consider the community members of Andrew to be an important part of that family.”
Bring on the FUN! Rachel Farr Vegreville Agricultural Society I would like to introduce myself, my name is Rachel Farr. I am honoured to be the new President for the Vegreville Agricultural Society. I have lived in Vegreville my whole life and love the town I call home. I have been a part of the Ag society for many years now; I am super excited for the next 2 years being the VAS president. I hope to bring new ideas to the fair and other events. Not everyone may know all the events the Ag society currently hosts such as: Fathers Day event, Eggcellent Obstacle Race, ATV Safety course, 4H achievement Day for both multi club and cattle and of course our 3-day Vegreville Country Fair. We also host smaller events such as agriculture education sessions throughout the year which benefit various groups. Our board consists of 30 directors and at this time we have 4 spots open. Directors of the Ag society must attend monthly meetings and special committee meetings. The committees include various things such as the Fathers day or grounds, horse, kids entertainment, education and
many more. Back by popular demand in 2015 we will be helping the local RCMP host the Bike Roadeo. Our local police officers are a great bunch who want to contribute and be apart of our events. We would love to have new ideas come to our events. Feedback from the public is very important.
We want to hear from you! What do you want to see? What do you want changed? What do you want to never change? Please contact myself or anyone one of our directors. www.vegag.ca or our Facebook or Twitter page that always has up to date information.

St. Martin’s Grades 4-6 wrap performances in creativity Rosanne Fortier Originality trimmed St. Martin’s School Grades 46 Christmas concert on December 18. All aspects of Christmas were presented as the students gave a large dose of peace, a touch of glamour and a sprinkle of humor to this concert. “Our 5-6 students in the afternoon take part in a Focus program where they do Recreation and Leadership, Digital Design and Communication and Fine Arts. This concert will have all these talents displayed.” Principal Joseph Dumont said when he opened this concert. The first act presented the story of Jesus’ birth where the students acted this through their video project on the projector. Then the grade fours took a commercial spin on what
the letters of Christmas represented. C stands for cookies, H stands for ho, ho, ho and the R stands for Rudolph… These students continued on to sing Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. The students later added that these things aren’t what Christmas is all about. “The real meaning of Christmas goes more like this, the C stands for the Christ child, and the H stands for the Harbor that Mary and Joseph found, the R stands for no room at the inn…” This was followed by the students singing, ‘Away in the Manager’. The students continued on to perform, The Little Drummer Boy. Following this, the Digital Design group showed on film what they loved about the traditions of Christmas.
“We light the pink candle on the third Sunday of Advent, people bring presents for family and friends and they put lights on their house and snow falls from the sky.” These films even had commercials in them that were created by the students and showed a product that people should buy. Then with a great sense of humor, Mrs. Deal’s Grades 5-6 Fine Arts class performed a 12 Days of Christmas rewrite where the students sang and showed a list of all the chores they had to do. While doing so, they showed the laundry basket, towels and other materials they had to do the work with and they added an interesting effect with their moaning. “On the first day of Christmas, my parents gave to me, a long list of

chores to do, on the second day of Christmas my parents gave to me, two loads of laundry…” A touching moment appeared when these youths sang, ‘Let There be Peace on Earth which was complimented by the students holding up three signs which read: Kindness, Forgiveness and Peace. The Digital Design group went forward to show a movie on the projector where they acted what Santa does when he is not delivering presents. This basically presented Santa playing and sleeping. Going forward, there was the perfect touch of linedancing. Following this, the audience learned a bit of French when all students went on the stage and sang Il Est Ne, Le Divin Enfant which means He is Born, the Divine Child. For the finale, all the students danced and used plenty of body language as

they sang about Santa on his way. Each of these pieces was greeted with whistles, cheers and an appreciative applause and the audience issued a standing ovation at the end. Mr. Dumont thanked all the teachers and students for all their hard work they did to make this concert the success it was, and expressed his gratitude to Tim Horton’s for their donation of hot chocolate for the performance.

HHFD to acquire a thermal imaging camera. The specialized camera increases HHFD effectiveness as a rural fire and rescue unit. This unique tool is commonly used to identify temperature hot spots and hidden dangers. When deployed as a search aid it is invaluable to assist locating victims; (often unconscious, injured or trapped), whether in a grain
bin, collapsed building or out of doors. HHFD is a regenerated fire department since almost being closed five years ago for lack of members. Equipment and training are budget priorities, however expensive tools such as this
have been unattainable were it not for the generosity of community minded benefactors such as Pioneer DuPont sharing their success by giving back to the community through grant programs like this.

Sharun, Peter May 15, 1926 – January 10, 2014 A Father’ Love, A Father’s Kiss A grieving Daughter, You’re greatly missed. An empty house, An empty chair, A father’s love, No longer there. A broken heart, Tear filled eyes, Another soul fills the sky. Many memories in my mind, Some I laugh, some I cry. The times we shared, The laughs we had, Things I miss when I think of you Dad. Realizing that’s all I have to hold on too, Only memories, Of what once was you. Missing your laugh, I will never again hear, No more smile on your face, No more warmth of your embrace. The last hug, The last kiss, The last “goodbye” leaves me with one last wish… To have you Dad, here today, Never to leave your daughter this way. A father’s touch, A father’s kiss, A grieving Daughter, you’re greatly missed. See You! Love, Marilyn, Gordon, Brett & Tamara
Nellie Romaniuk (Wengreniuk) June 16, 1932 – January 10, 2013 In loving memory of my Wife, our Mother, Baba and great Baba. WENGRENIUK, George January 15, 2005 Time Teaches Time teaches that you can live with a broken heart by filling the breaks with beautiful memories. Time teaches that there is no such thing as closure only acceptance, restructuring and resolve. Time also teaches that life truly does go on and grief’s rawness eventually fades without leaving a scar. And although life goes on, there will always be days when we can’t help but remember when time stood still. The difficult days remind us how deeply we love… and so it is today. Loved beyond words. Missed beyond measure. Marian, family and friends. HAWRELAK William Hawrelak Oct.3,1906-Oct.6,1996 Lena Hawrelak Feb.12,1913-Jan.9,2011 Always loved, always remembered Your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
