NHS welcomes improvements on race equality TNT News Amber Rudd has written to NHS leaders to guarantee the rights of EU citizens working in the NHS. Following last week’s agreement at the European Council for negotiations, the Home Office has formally announced that it guarantees the rights of EU citizens working in the NHS. The news comes after the NHS England’s Chief Executive Simon Stevens welcomed signs of progress in tackling discrimination among health service staff.

Mr Stevens did acknowledge however that there is “hard work still ahead” in improving equality for all its workers. His comments came after NHS’s latest annual report into race equality. The audit provides a complete assessment of the experience of NHS employees from black and minority ethnic (BME) backgrounds. It also includes whether they have equal access to career opportunities and receive fair treatment at work. The 2017 Workforce Race Equality Standard (WRES) shows an increasein senior

Let’s get the formalities out of the way. Hope your Christmas and new year have been filled with love and festive cheer. May your new year bring health, wealth and prosperity.

pictures of how happy and fabulous our lives are, while most curl up at home with a microwave meal and a glass of wine, if lucky enough to afford them.

There were periods last year that reminded me of the 1960 – 70’s when racism was rife. When hatred for anything different festeredbefore measures were taken to eradicate it. I have big hopes for this year as people in general – regardless of colour or cultural background, religion or alternative beliefs – all seem to have had enough.

For those brave enough to delve deep into the world of internet dating, be warned, being ‘Catfished’ is a reality. Fake profiles from lying about their age, weight, height, gender, skin complexionor marital status – you name it, the list goes on. There can be men and women laying in wait to trap you and lure you into their sinister world of abuse, slavery, stalking and in some rare cases murder.

We all seem exhausted by suicide bombers, senseless killings in the name of extremist organisations and let’s not forget extreme violence against women, children and the LGBTQI community. It’s been tragic and draining and a nightmare for the family and friends on the receiving end of all that tragedy. Look, people have been seeking escapism in the form of the internet. It seems a great gift of the millennium and in many ways, it is. But there is a dark side to the web. Due to our busy schedules and our lack of time and, indeed, our social skills on the decline, the web has made it easier to get lost in itsillusory world. What do I mean, I hear you guys say…? Well, we post on social media how busy and fulfilled our lives are. When in fact it’s far from the truth. Most are lonely, desperately unhappy and longing for physically connections with their fellow humans. We often post fake

Not wanting to scare anyone, however start the new year with a few guidelines that will help keep you safe: • Tell someone about what you’re up to, never meet anyone for at least the first 3 to 5 dates on your own • Always choose a public place for all meetings • Never let them know where you live for the first 3 months, by then you will know them just a little better • Take a picture of their face and send to friends and ask if anyone knows them, good news or bad, it all helps Let’s start this year by being safe. Kind to others. Go out and meet real people, give the keyboards a rest. Be more sociable, start with the gym, libraries, country walks, yoga classes etc.

Man beat wife to death to boast to friends TNT News A husband is facing 16 years in prison after he beat his wife into a coma. Healso filmed it so that he could show off to his friends. Anastasia Oviannikova died six days after the horrific attack at the hands of Maxim Gribanov in Lebedyan, western Russia. He struck her repeatedly to prove that he had her ‘under control’ when she told him that she wanted to leave him. Pictures from the brutal attack show her on a sofa with bruises across her entire body. When she was taken to hospital, 28-year-old Anastasia, had severe bruising, internal bleeding and several broken bones. She slipped into a coma and because of such horrific injuries she

never woke up and died six days later. A family friend said: ‘She was so full of hope and fun, but this man destroyed her life. He should be treated in the same way as he treated her.’ Gribanov kicked and punched her repeatedly over a course of several hours then showed the footage to his friends. Anastasia’s friends said that she had met someone new and was trying to build up the courage to leave her violent husband. Gribanovhad also forced her to quit her town hall job. However, after suffering years of

Schoolboy banned from play due to ‘extreme’ haircut TNT News An 8-year-old boy was reportedly banned from his school’s Christmas play because his haircut was too ‘extreme’. KhaiOkojie stayed in class at Ellenbrook Community Primary in Salford, Manchester, while his friends sang carols at a nearby church. Subsequently, Khai’s parents are making a formal complaint to the school. His mother, Jo, a teacher at a primary school in Bury, said: ‘The school has no Christmas spirit at all. It is so cruel. ‘Khai had been practising his singing at home and was really looking forward to the concert. He was excited too, as I was able to attend for the first time’ she said.

It’s reported that Khai’s dad recently took him for a haircut, the result of which is not extreme, according to Jo. Khai’s haircut is curly on top and short at the back. ‘The school called me to say he could not go to the concert. I explained that I had been looking forward to seeing him in the concert and it was unfair to punish me too’, Jo said. Adding that a boy in the same class as Khai has ‘a very similar haircut’, Jo said the school’s move is very very harsh. ‘The school where I teach is far more easy-going about this kind of thing and he would never have been banned.

Man jailed for racially attacking Raheem Sterling A convicted football hooligan has been jailed for a racist and “unprovoked” attack on Manchester City and England winger Raheem Sterling. Karl Anderson, 29, pleaded guilty to racially aggravated common assault after Sterling was attacked outside City’s training ground on Saturday. The court heard Anderson already has 25 convictions for 37 offences, including football-related violence.

He has been jailed for 16 weeks and must pay £100 in compensation. Anderson, who kicked Sterling four times during the assault, said he “lost his temper” and was sorry for his actions. He abused the City player using racist language, as well as telling Sterling he wanted his mother and child to die. In a victim impact statement read out to the court, Sterling, 23, said he “did not think

this kind of behaviour happened in this country in this day and age”. CCTV footage of the attack outside City’s training complex was played to the court, which showed Anderson pulling up in his van alongside Sterling. In sentencing him, magistrate Diana Webb-Hobson called it an “entirely unprovoked attack” and described Anderson’s previous record as “appalling”.

Tony Walsh captures Manchester’s spirit in BBC poem

Nathaniel Leahly

The poet Tony Walsh, whose words at the Manchester bomb attack vigil moved many people, looks ahead after a difficult year. Walsh, from Prestwich, has written a moving new poem extolling the virtues of the North West. Also known as Longfella, was commission to write Up ‘Ere by BBC North West Tonight to celebrate the region’s strengths. Up ‘ere recalls past events - including the 22 killed after the Ariana Grande concert in May and the deaths of 96 people due to the 1989 Hillsborough football stadium disaster. He also celebrates the spirit of those in north-west England and their “love shown as defiance”. Up ‘Ere is a three-minute video that shows Walsh performing his work from the top of Blackpool Tower. The video features still shots of placesall across the North West and images of the aftermath of the Manchester terror attack. Images of Liverpool and Anfield stadium, remembering the 96 who lost their lives in the Hillborough disaster, are also included. The poem begins: “From up ‘ere you can see it all, in here and here you can.

Manchester’s huge children’s services improvements

The Queen has paid tribute to Manchester in her Christmas Day message for their handling of this year’s terror attacks. She said it was a “privilege” to meet the concert attack survivors in May and stressed both cities’“powerful identities”. The monarch also remembered the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire. In the year of her 70th wedding anniversary she praised the Duke of Edinburgh’s support. Despite missing the Christmas morning service last year due to illness, the Queen spent this year at Sandringham with the Royal Family. Prince Harry and his fiancée Meghan Markle were in attendance. Looking back over 2017, the Queen reflected fondly on her relationship with Prince Philip amid his decision to “slow down a little”. She said: “I don’t know that anyone had invented the term ‘platinum’ for a 70th wedding anniversary when I was born. You weren’t expected to be around that long.” This summer Prince Philip retired from his programme of public engagements, although he has continued to attend some events involving the Queen. In the broadcast, the Queen also praised her husband’s “unique sense of humour”.

The Ofsted report says: “Inspectors saw good evidence of improvement across all service areas. Strong leadership, an ambitious and well-articulated vision… and robust governance arrangements are leading to improved outcomes for children and young people in need of protection”. Ofsted’s overall verdict was that children’s services in Manchester ‘require improvement to be good’. This is a step up from ‘inadequate’ with ‘good’ as the next category to aim for. Ofsted classed both Leadership, Management and Governance and Adoption Performance as good. It is a considerable improvement from ‘inadequate’ for both categories in the previous inspection. Pleased with the report, Councillor Sheila Newman, Executive Member for Children’s Services for Manchester City Council, released a statement. “This endorsement is the result of commitment, focus and sheer hard work by everyone involved in this process – from senior officers and members to frontline staff.

London Metropolitan Police

TNT News Ofsted inspectors have recognised significant improvements to children’s services in Manchester. They ruled that Manchester’s services are no longer ‘inadequate.’ They conducted a rigorous re-inspection in autumn 2017 which followed on from their last full inspection published in September 2014. That previous inspection had classed services as ‘inadequate’ citing concerns about social worker caseloads. They also found delays in the assessments of children potentially at risk and the quality of management oversight. Manchester City Council and partner agencies acknowledged the shortcomings and produced a comprehensive improvement plan. They invested in improvements including more frontline social workers to reduce caseloads and ensured more timely assessments. An extra 86 social workers and 14 managers have been recruited. The new inspection has concluded that this sustained action has made a positive and widespread difference.

He estimates that he sees at least ten isolated people a day through his work. Maneet is keen to support the city’s health commissioners to ease the problem, while making the use of pharmacy skills and expertise. One of his ideas includes expanding a section of the front of the Wilbraham Road shop to include an information point. Here, customers will be able to learn about activities and friendship events in the area, whilst waiting for their prescriptions. “So many people who come in to our shop frame their day around picking up their medications – and for some we will be the only people they interact with that day,” he says. “That’s why it’s so important to talk to our customers – and while we do that we can also do a quick review of their medication. “We already have a seat in the shop – which is part of an age-friendly drive to help older people. But we want to be able to go further and have more seating and encourage people to look at the social or group events in the area.”

The UK currently ranks as the country with the highest level of obesity in Europe. More than 1 in 4 (28.1 percent) adults are obese and nearly two out of three (63.4 percent) are overweight. According to a US study, black adults are more likely to develop diabetes than white adults. The increased risk of contracting diabetes, is largely due to obesity and other risk factors, the study suggests. Researchers followed 4,251 black and white men and women starting when they were 18 to 30 years old.None of them had diabetes to start with. After an average follow-up of more than 24 years, 504 of the participants developed diabetes. Compared to white women, black women were almost three times more likely to develop diabetes. The results were reported by researchers in the Journal of the American Medical Association. Black men, meanwhile, had 67 percent higher odds of becoming diabetic than white men.

TNT News Black people now account for up to 40 percent of all homeless households in England. This is despite being just 15 percent of the population. Homelessness among ethnic minorities has reached the highest level in more than a decade. It has rocketed since the Tories took office, a report revealed. A new analysis of official statistics shows 5,030 black and minority ethnic (BAME) households were categorised as homeless. This was between July and September 2016 - up from 3,310 during the same period in 2010. It means the number of BAME households being accepted as homeless has risen four times faster than among other groups.

The Conservatives came into office in 2010. Between the summer of 2010 and the summer of 2016 homelessness among BAMEs increased by 52 per cent. This was in comparison with 13 per among people classed as “White British”. Research published in 2016 by the Runneymede Trust, revealed African and Afro-Caribbean British people are nearly five times more likely to be homeless compared to their white counterparts. It analysed homeless figures from 33 boroughs and highlighted how our housing crisis was “disproportionately” affecting black people.

Boxer punched 3-year-old then blamed Manchester bombing TNT News A former boxer repeatedly punched a three-year-old boy in the legs while babysitting – then blamed his behaviour on the Manchester Arena bombing. Daniel Rigg-Watts flew into a rage at the boy throwing his toys on the floor, verbally abusing the toddler and smacking him. At Manchester Crown Court, the 27-yearold asked for mercy, claiming that life had been ‘difficult’ for him since his brother was injured in the terror attack in May. However, he was jailed for 11 months after admitting cruelty to a child. Judge Richard Mansell QC said: ‘It was nonsense for you to think that you could chastise a child in this way. This is the age when you are supposed to praise them – not hurt them.’

The court heard a horrified eyewitness looked on as Rigg-Watts, of Fleetwood, Lancashire, punched the toddler, giving him a dead leg which caused him temporary difficulty in walking. As he beat the child, Rigg-Watts, a family friend of the boy’s mother, told him: ‘You little t**t, you’re an a******e just like your dad.’ Prosecutor Andrea Lock said: ‘He called him names like ‘little b*****d’ and punched the child on the legs to give him a dead leg. ‘The punches were forceful, like a punch meant for an adult.’

Train fares in theUK will go up again, but this time they rise by an average of 3.4% from 2 January 2018. This is the biggest increase since 2013. It covers regulated fares, which include season tickets, and unregulated fares, such as off-peak leisure tickets. The Rail Delivery Group admitted it was a “significant” rise. However it said that more than 97% of fare income went back into improving and running the railway. London mayor Sadiq Khan has called it an “unacceptable fare increase”. A passenger group said the rise was “a chill wind” and the RMT union called it a “kick in the teeth” for travellers. The rise in regulated fares had already been capped at July’s Retail Prices Index inflation rate of 3.6%. The fare increase is above the latest Consumer Prices Index inflation figure of 3%, which was a five-and-a-half year high.

Its author, David Anderson QC, said it was conceivable the attack by Salman Abedi in May could have been avoided had “cards fallen differently”.

On two occasions in the months before Abedi killed 22 people, MI5 received intelligence. However, its significance was not fully appreciated at the time and, in hindsight, was “highly relevant” to the planned attack

After the bombing, which left 22 people dead, and three terror attacks in London this year, counter-terror police and MI5 conducted internal reviews. The Met Police said better resources and infrastructures were needed. The major internal reviews, which remain largely secret, are summarised in Mr Anderson’s report, and show: The Manchester bomber Salman Abedi had been a “Subject of Interest” for MI5.

There was no security service port alert against Salman Abedi. He was not questioned at the border when he returned to the UK from Libya four days before the attack. Two other attackers had been on MI5’s radar. Khuram Butt, the leader of the London Bridge and Borough Market attack, and Khalid Masood on Westminster Bridge.

Driving with snow on car earns fine and points TNT News Driving with snow on your car could land you in trouble with the law and see you land a hefty fine. The UK has been hit with snow over the past few days as temperatures dropped. This change in weather brings with it a multitude of issues for motorists taking to the roads. While most motorists are now aware that you can be fined for incorrectly clearing the ice off of their windscreen, some might not be aware about the rules surrounding clearing snow. Driving with snow on your roof could see you land a fine of £60. Police can penalise you with this fine if

you are caught with snow on your vehicle and also give you three penalty points. Under section 229 of the Highway Code it outlines how drivers should prepare their car before they set off after adverse weather conditions. “You must be able to see, so clear all snow and ice from all your windows. It reads: “You must ensure that lights are clean and number plates are clearly visible and legible. “Make sure the mirrors are clear and the windows are demisted thoroughly. “Remove all snow that might fall off into the path of other road users.”

Selfitis - Love for selfies is a mental disorder TNT News

The term was first coined in 2014 to describe obsessive selfie-taking in a spoof news story. It suggested the American Psychiatric Association was considering classifying it as a disorder.

They have now confirmed the ‘selfitis’ does indeed exist. They have even developed a ‘Selfitis Behaviour Scale’ which can be used to assess its severity.

TNT News Researchers are embarking on an ambitious project to see whether a child’s school record can aid early interventiontechniques. The researchers hope school records can show vital clues whether a child is at risk of suicide or self-harm. Nearly one in 10 young people self-harm or have suicidal thoughts but understanding of the causes is limited, making prevention difficult. Anonymised school data for 180,000 10to 17-year-olds in south London will be analysed. This will includeattendance and performance, and will be linked to the child’s health and hospital records. The researchers hope to identify the most important risk factors. This will pave the way for early intervention. The lead researcher, Rina Dutta, is a senior clinical lecturer in the psychological medicine department at King’s College London. Dutta said young people felt under more pressure than in the past, which had led to selfharm becoming almost normalised. “We have got about three children in every state school class who will eventually have these issues,” Dutta explained. “So I think it’s good that we’ll be able to intervene earlier”, Dutta added. The ability to have a better picture of which schools in particular are having this issue, is key. “[Then] we can target potentially high-need schools and colleges and maybe the culture will change earlier, and we can prevent future problems.”

“A few years ago, stories appeared in the media claiming that the condition of selfitis was to be classed as a mental disorder by the American Psychiatric Association”. Dr Griffiths added, “we confirm its existence and developed the world’s first Selfitis Behaviour Scale to assess the condition.”

The scale, which runs from one to 100 was developed using a large number of focus groups with 200 participants. This is to determine what factors drove selfitis. It was scale tested using a survey of 400 participants. Participants were based in India because the country has the most users on Facebook. It also has the highest number of deaths as a result of trying to take selfies in dangerous locations. There are three levels The findings, published in the International Journal of Mental Health and Addiction confirmed that there are three levels of selfitis.

The policy that will see banks required to check the immigration status of account holders from January 2018. An open letter was written to Amber Rudd. Its signatories include Green Party co-leader Caroline Lucas, Labour MP David Lammy and human rights group Liberty. The letter warns that the checks could see thousands wrongly blocked from using banking services. This is due to the Home Office’s “poor track record” of dealing with complaints and appeals in a timely manner. The letter, seen exclusively by The Independent, also urges that the policy will be most harmful to BAME communities. It adds that it will increase the vulnerability of people who are already in precarious positions. The legislation, is designed as part of the Government’s bid to create a “hostile environment” for immigrants. It will require banks and building societies to check 70 million current accounts each quarter. The provisions came into effect in October and the first checks are due to be carried out in January 2018. People affected will include those whose

Positive Self Talk

Selfitis’ is a genuine mental condition and people who feel compelled to continually post pictures of themselves on social media need help, psychologists have warned.

TNT News Henry Ford said ‘whether you believe you can do a thing or not, you’re right’. If you constantly tell yourself that you are useless, then guess what… Our thoughts are powerful and can have a huge impact on how we feel, our expectations and aspirations. Self-talk is the conversations that we have with ourselves, aloud or silently. We all do it. Sometimes hundreds of times a day and it can be positive or negative. Self-talk is just like breathing. It’s always there and it always happens. It’s almost like a running commentary of your life conducted by you. The problem is our self-talk can be our biggest enemy. That inner voice that tells you, you are not good enough, you couldn’t possibly do that, nobody likes you, you’re useless etc. We all have Automatic Negative Thoughts or ANTS. However, unless we learn how to control our ANTS, they will prevent us from reaching our true potential. Our mind has the ability to talk itself into failure. Especially when we try something new, challenging or demanding. We can improve our self-talkby: • Listening critically to your inner voice and understanding that it is not always correct. Our negative self-talk can be influenced by our history (including childhood memories and relationships). It may not be a true reflection of you now. So question strongly what you say to yourself. • Surround yourself with positive people as their positivity will rub off on you. They will also give you constructive and helpful feedback. • Practice positive self-talk. Use positive affirmations and focus on what is good about you and your life Positive self-talk prevents us from sabotaging any potential progress, happiness and success that we deserve. Positive self-talk means taking responsibility for what you say to yourself. Remember. Just telling yourself you will succeed is not enough. You have to truly believe it. Stay focused and stay blessed.

A powerful thriller about the explosive intersection of love, race, and justice from a writer and producer of the Emmy winning Fox TV show Empire. When it comes to law and order, East Texas plays by its own rules – a fact that Darren Mathews, a black Texas Ranger, knows all too well. Deeply ambivalent about growing up black in the lone star state, he was the first in his family to get as far away from Texas as he could. Until duty called him home. This is Attica’s brilliant fourth novel. The body of a black man turns up in rural Texas, followed by the body of a white woman. As the novel’s black investigator, Mathews, notes: ‘The order of the killings didn’t fit any agreed-upon American script.’ Usually, as one character cites, it’s the death of a white woman that’s followed by the death of a black man.

Simplicity: The key to dieting this New Year TNT Food Our culture can be rather ironic. We knowingly stuff ourselves in the festive break, only to draw up a plan to shed the pounds added by our festivebinge. Choosing the right diet plan can be tricky and laborious; and let’s face it, most tend to ‘stuff it’ just days in. So why not try something different this year? Ditch those faddy diets and take up walking. That’s the new year health advice from one leading heart doctor. Cardiologist Dr Aseem Malhotra recommends eating a balanced diet of plenty of vegetables, fish, dairy and healthy fats. There’s no need to sign up to a gym. Maintain fitness with lots of brisk walking, says the top doctor. Cutting sugar and refined carbohydrates, like cakes, pasta and pizzas, is also key to good health. His findings are detailed in his book The Pioppi Diet, which promises to increase longevity by 10 years. Dr Malhotra said: “It is clear that diet and lifestyle are far more powerful than drugs or taking to the gym. “Lifestyle changes such as consuming less sugar are more powerful than any medication doctors can prescribe. You cannot outrun a bad diet – this should be what doctors are advising their patients. Eating junk

food and then trying to beat the bulge with heavy workouts is a waste of time.” Enjoying dark chocolate and a glass of wine in moderation, however, would be beneficial to health, said Dr Malhotra. D r Malhotra is also a founding m e m b e r of Action on Sugar, a pressure group run by senior doctors. He says following his diet and lifestyle techniques can transform a person’s health in just 21 days, reducing the risk of heart disease and diabetes and increasing longevity. His work is largely based on the study of the inhabitants of Pioppi, a fishing village in Italy. In Pioppi, the average age is almost 90 and only a small minority suffer conditions such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

A glorious retelling of Guys and Dolls in Manchester TNT Entertainment Buffong’s charming version rolls the right dice in Manchester With all the tinsel at his disposal plus the merriment that carols inevitably evoke, director Michael Buffong chose to breathe new meaning to the term ‘festive’ in Manchester this season. Aided by a fresh new wind in its sails, the 1950s smashhit musical Guys and Dollshas made its next port stop, all the way from Broadway to Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre. This is – in a ‘more-than-meets-the-eye’ definition – a colourful, sassy and glorious Royal Exchange Theatre and Talawa Theatre Company’s production. For one, it is the UK’s first all-black cast production. Let’s get back to that later. It is only three weeks away from Christmas, and leading up to this period the Royal Exchange Theatre found themselves in a tricky position, of giving Manchester the production which this season so rightfully commands. Anything lesswould have been an unprecedented horror and fatal undermining of this classic favourite. Punctuated by tight-sealed jazzy scores, colourful costumes, fluid choreography, charming dialogue which, incidentally provoked a member of the audience to be Miss Adelaide’s shoulder to cry on as Nathan sweet talks her from leaving him, there is little room or time to spot any inconsistencies or clunky scenes – everything works, and quite wonderfully. Set in New York, the show celebrates the off-beat stories of Damon Runyon that made the gangsters and hustlers of Harlem infamous. The juxtaposition between missionaries and hustlers invites the philosophy that people are fluid and can change, given the right time and circumstance.

Gogglebox star is homeless

Wiley receives MBE in New Year Honours TNT Entertainment Wiley has said receiving an MBE in the New Years Honours is like “the school grade I wanted and didn’t get”. The ‘Godfather of Grime’, whose real name is Richard Cowie, is being honoured for his services to music. He said: “I’m honoured to be receiving an MBE. It feels like the school grade I wanted and didn’t get but now I’m finally there.

Gogglebox star Sandra Martin has revealed she’s completely broke just weeks before Christmas after spending all her earnings. Sandra, who is signed up to star in Celebrity Big Brother next year, says she will be struggling until she receives her reality TV show fee. “I have no money coming in. It’s scary,”she reportedly told the Daily Star. Sandra, 55, admitted she’s spent all the money she earned on the Channel 4 show. She also revealed she lost a lot of her friends after they used her for her cash. “All my friends were on benefits, so when I got Gogglebox it was like I’d won the jackpot,” she continued. “If one of my friends needed £100 then I’d give it to them. I’d always be getting the drinks in and buying the food. I didn’t mind at first but then people started taking advantage, so I had to get out.” The Gogglebox star lived in a hotel after moving out of her house once she quit the C4 show. Martin appeared on the Channel 4 series alongside best pal Sandi Bogle. She said she has been forced out of her Brixton home and is living out of a suitcase in a budget hotel after not being able to keep up with the bills. Last year, Sandra was seen charging fans £1 for pictures with her at British Summer Time Festival in Hyde Park. She gave those on benefits a discounted price of 50p and took the payments in a money box covered in pictures. Martin revealed she’d quit Gogglebox live on This Morning in July, following the departure of Sandi in 2016. Sandra reportedly earned £100,000 a year during her time on Gogglebox.

I’m not tryna be accepted.” Wiley has previously credited Skepta as being an inspiration in his career. Michael Jackson sex assualt lawsuit dismissed TNT Entertainment A judge has dismissed the lawsuit brought by a choreographer who alleged Michael Jackson molested him as a child. The move resolves one of the last major claims against the late singer’s holdings. Judge Mitchell L. Beckloff’s summary judgment ruling against the now-35-year-old Wade Robson found that the two Jackson-owned corporations, which were the remaining defendants in the case, were not liable for Robson’s exposure to Jackson. He did not rule on the credibility of Robson’s allegations themselves. Robson’slawyer, Vince Finaldi, said he strongly disagrees and plans to appeal. Robson, an Australian, has worked with Britney Spears and NSYNC. He met Jackson when he was 5 years old. He testified in Jackson’s defence at the singer’s 2005 criminal trial. He said he had spent the night at Jackson’s Neverland Ranch more than 20 times. He specified he usually slept in Jackson’s room, but Jackson never molested him. Jackson was acquitted in that trial. Then in 2013 about four years after the singer’s death, he filed a lawsuit against the singer. He sued the Jackson estate for what his lawyers described as molestation that spanned a seven-year period.

Fiasco’s Manchester Stormzy rips into the crew wins Grime-A-Side Daily Mail for racism

TNT What’s On

The Nubian Times

Fiasco’s Manchester crew secured the Grime A Side 2017 title with 59.83% of the vote to defeat Birmingham. The innovative grime clash series pioneered by Red Bull Studios returned with new MCs from eight towns and cities around the UK. Cities taking part this year included Birmingham, Bristol, Glasgow, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newport and Wolverhampton. The competition sees teams clash to claim regional supremacy and the Grime-ASide trophy. Fiasco’s 0161 team spun Glasgow in the quarter finals, then Bristol in the semis, before beating Tantskii’s Birmingham team in the final. Manchester’s XP was voted Man Of The Match. Commenting on Twitter, @ AdamDee96 wrote: ‘The way both teams mimicked each other’sflows tho [sic]. What a final’. Although more fans praised the 0161 team, some were unhappy about the result. @ImRobertoo tweeted: ‘Can’t believe Brum didn’t win the Redbull grime a side. Stress.’ The tournament is split into three legs: quarter-finals, semi-finals and live final. Each match sees two teams go head-to-head, passing the mic and delivering their best 16 bars.

The Nubian Times

TNT Entertainment

The team that wins each match goes through to the next round to clash against another winning team; the losing crew is ejected from the competition. Teams are made up of three MCs from the same city and surrounding area. Each team captain is responsible for selecting their two fellow

teammates. The captain can reshuffle their crew from match to match. For example, if you win your quarter final, you have the option of bringing two different MCs to the semi-final. The winning team will be decided by the results of a vote published on RedBull’s website. Voters will need a Facebook account to be illegible.

Russell Simmons investigated over rape TNT Entertainment Russell Simmons is under investigation from the NYPD for multiple rape allegations. NYPD’s special victims unit is reportedly looking into at least 7 claims of sexual misconduct against the Def Jam co-founder. The 60-year-old is accused of sexual assault by at least 12 women. Some of the cases date back to the early 1980s. According to the L.A. Times, detectives are already reaching out to some of the alleged victims. Mr Simmonsstepped down from his businesses in November 2017 after Jenny Lumet claimed he raped her in the 1990s. Model Keri Claussen Khalighi has also accused him of rape. Mr Simmons denies the rapes and says all his sexual encounters were consensual. He added that he has “enormous respect for the women’s movement worldwide and their struggle for respect, dignity, equality and power”. He said he was “devastated by any reason I may have given to anyone to say or think of me in the ways that are currently being described.”

‘America’s Next Top Model’ judge Kelly Cutrone is also accusing Simmons of sexual misconduct. She told the New York Post he tried to rape her after they left a party together in 1991. However, she was able to fight him off and flee.

David Shankbone

As reported by celebrity media outlet TMZ, his lawyers say he took and passed a polygraph to address Khalighi’s allegation.

‘Grime music is fuelling the use of skunk’ – Daily Mail Stormzy has publicly slammed the Daily Mail for being ‘anti-black’. The tabloid published an article titled ‘Grime music is fuelling the use of skunk’ and named a mixture of black artists. One of the artists named in the piece is Stormzy. The 24-year-old didn’t hold back and accused the Daily Mail of blatant racism. ‘White rockstars (and pop stars) have been sniffing coke and taking MDMA and singing about it since the beginning of music just admit you’re anti-black and f**k off you tramps,’ the furious singer replied. One user was quick to note how the same newspaper had playfully talked about marijuana use when it was about an elderly white woman. Although the white woman was using a drug, the tabloid didn’t criticise her. So, the user called out the Daily Mail’s hypocrisy and implied racism. The article highlighted on Daily Mail’s website was that of a 70-year-old white grandmother. The woman has been smoking cannabis for FIVE decades and claimsit’s the secret to her good health.

Bitcoin resurges after pre-Christmas sink

Business News Business boost for Trafford

Bitcoin bounced back over $16,000 [£11,900] on Boxing Day. It recovered some of the ground lost in a pre-Christmas collapse that pushed its price down below $12,000 [£8,900]. Bitcoin, the world’s biggest and best-known cryptocurrency, lost more than a quarter of its value in a single day. It fell 30% at one stage on 22 December 2017 to $11,159.93 [£8,318]. Despite a late recovery, it had its worst week since 2013. The digital currency had risen around twentyfold since the start of 2017. It climbed from less than $1,000 [£745] to as high as $19,666 [£14,659] on 17 December on Bitstamp. It even went up to more than $20,000 [£14,908] on other exchanges. However, it has posted heavy declines since. While bitcoin investors and analysts believe the decline in its value was a natural correction after a heady run-up in prices, there have been further warnings from market regulators and central banks.

The importance about knowing about tax returns TNT Business For the millions of people who pay their own tax directly (rather than from their monthly pay), the end of the year means signals one thing. It’s time to complete your tax return for the 2016-17 tax year. You have to work out what you have earned over the previous tax year, from April 6, 2016, to April 5, 2017. Include any relevant deductions such as travel, stationery, stock and materials. If you are self-employed, complete a return and pay your own tax directly. The same applies if you are a business partner, a director of a limited company. Pensioners and people with an annual income of £100,000 or more must also

pay their own tax directly. The deadline for postal returns has passed. The deadline for online returns is 31 January2018. If you file your tax return online and also have earnings taxed under PAYE, you might be able to have outstanding taxes collected directly from your pay, provided you completed your online return by 31 December 2017. Any tax payable would be paid over 12 months, rather than a lump sum. If you are late filing, you will receive a £100 fine. The longer you leave it, the bigger the fine gets.
