‘I’m forever grateful for his mentorship and friendship’
Jared A’Latorre Staff Reporter When Dr. Kayse Shrum was announced as the 19th president of Oklahoma State University, she shared some advice that was given to her by her future predecessor. During the press conference for last week’s announcement, Shrum talked about conversations she’s had with current OSU president, Burns Hargis, about what the position is like to serve as the leader of OSU. “President Hargis and I have talked many times about leadership and really throughout my career, and what has stuck with me the most from him and the first Cowgirl is that, if I were provided the opportunity, that it is an unbelievable experience and privilege to able to serve as the Oklahoma State University president,” Shrum said. One of her first goals is to engage with the students, staff and faculty. Shrum said that she hopes to keep in contact with Hargis throughout the

Swinging for a breakthrough

Hanging rafters of Oklahoma State’s Gallagher Iba Arena are banners for all 52 NCAA National Championships in school history, but something’s missing from those banners. A women’s title. OSU has had good women’s teams in all sports on campus over the years, but none of them have been able to capture the elusive championship. “You look up into Gallagher Iba and see all those banners able to put one up there that says women’s golf or have a women’s sport up there would obviously be something incredible,” OSU women’s golf coach Greg Robertson said. Now in 2021, the OSU
women’s golf team is trying to change that, and they’re on a good path to do so. “I think everyone here wants to win a National Championship,” Cowgirl star Maja Stark said. “I think it would be really cool if we were the first women’s team at the school to win an NCAA Championship. We all have it in our minds.” The Cowgirls are on a tear in the midst of their 2021 season. They have won their last two tournaments, three total this season, and have won five individual events. “Just to see this group right now, they’re working hard, they’re a talented group,” Robertson said. “I know it sounds cliche, but we just have to keep taking it one step at a time. If we do all those little things, all that other stuff will fall into place. Robertson, since taking over, has completely turned around the program.
