Students are returning to class es, and what better way to bring in the new school year than with a new wardrobe. Whether you prefer a more casual style or more classic pieces, here is a list of five back-to-school clothing items everyone needs. No. 5: New sneakers No matter the occasion, every student needs a classic sneaker. From walking to class to going out, a pair of good sneakers are one of the most versatile pieces a student can own. If you’re looking for a great basic pair, Nike Air Force One’s are a great pick. If being basic isn’t your thing, Veja is a great option and they have every color you could ever want. No. 4: Outdoor coat Winter in Oklahoma can be brutal, so having a good coat to pro tect yourself from the elements is im portant. While it is important to have a coat that is warm, that doesn’t mean they don’t have to be fashion forward. Bomber jackets are a solid option for anyone looking for a more elevated outdoor coat, and places like Gap or Abercrombie and Fitch have some solid options. However, if you want to impress your friends a top coat is a great alternative to the traditional outdoor wear. Places like Banana Republic and Zara have great options when it comes to top coats, and you’ll be sure to impress your peers. No. 3: Watch Classes are busy, and it can be easy to let the time slip by. To combat this, it is important to make sure you have a good watch to get to places on time. If you’re looking for a solid op tion, an Apple Watch is always great for students. If traditional watches are your thing, Fossil has been making watches for years, and with the 50% off sale happening now, you can’t go wrong. No. 2: Denim Offering such versatility, jeans are a college-student essential that everyone needs. Whether you prefer a loose fit or a more slim leg, places like Abercrombie and Fitch and Gap offer a fit and wash suitable for everyone. No. 1: School apparel No matter what college you go to, repping the school’s colors are a great way to show your involvement in the university. At OSU, the Univer sity Store is a great place to stock up on everything you’ll need for the up coming semester. But, there are local boutiques around Stillwater that offer a wide range of OSU merchandise perfect for any sporting event. College is a time to express yourself, and what better way to show your personal style than by getting some essential fashion pieces that are a bit more elevated. Even though it is great to have some of these essentials in your closet, it is important to wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and confident.

Baylor front seven looking to repeat as Big 12 champs

Over the next few weeks, The O’Colly will be releasing its Big 12 preseason rankings in the form of team previews. This week, in the final preview, picked to repeat as Big 12 champions by our writers are the Baylor Bears. After winning the Big 12 championship game with a goalline tackle to stop OSU one yard short, Baylor is looking to repeat as champions with a larger lead. “I want to say we called a timeout (on that play) and we didn’t have a timeout,” said Baylor coach Dave Aranda. “I don’t know if I should be saying that. I think we called a defense that was for a certain personnel group, and they came out not in that personnel group, and there was some confusion. There was a fair amount of chaos on the sidelines. You could feel it.” In order to do that, the defense will have to play even better than last year — and they have the personnel to do so.The offense lost quarterback Gerry Bohanon to the transfer portal, leading receiver Tyquan Thornton and running backs Trestan Ebner and Abram Smith to the NFL. As the offense retools, the defense can pick up the slack.Toplug up the middle of the field, Siaki Ika, the big 6-foot 4, 360-pound nose tackle can overpower opposing lineman, stopping the run and rushing the passer, making him widely renowned as one of the best defensive players in the country. Next to Ika, Jaxon Player, a transfer from Tulsa, was one of the highest ranked defensive players in the transfer portal this offseason after his 2021 senior campaign where he totaled 15 tackles for loss and five sacks. Backing up the front seven are two returning linebackers, Dillon Doyle and Matt Jones, who combined for 141 tackles and 16.5 tackles for loss. The Bears also added Josh White through the transfer portal, a former four-star recruit from LSU, who did not see any playing time in Baton Rouge in 2021. Aranda, looking around at his talent, also believes himself that the experienced front seven, one with no underclassmen on the two-deep depth chart, will be the ones to lead the team who was picked to repeat as conference champions.“ButI think with the returning depth on our D-line, we’re looking to be led by big men,” Aranda said.”I feel the skill there is very talented. It has to emerge under the lights and all of it, and we’re training in the dark right now for all of that to happen.”

WHEN IS LITTLE MUCH?
Zaragoza... Continued from page 1
We never know when a little gesture of kindness, with money, or helping in an area of service, spending a little time with a person, a word of encouragement, will be just the action that will be a great help to someone. These can be practical ways of living out the Lord’s challenge to love one another. This is the fulfilling of the many commandments in the Bible: loving people by word and action. sports.ed@ocolly.com
he entered remission. He could finally go back to living the life of a kid. That included sports. He tried many sports; soccer, baseball, then started playing football in fifth grade. He took a hiatus from the gridiron for a while, but resumed in high school. This time it stuck. “I really didn’t get serious about playing in college until going into my senior year,” Zaragoza said. “My mom just kept telling me, you know, you have a story to share. God put a miracle on me, and he healed me, so I wanted to shareAfterthat.”playing center in high school, he transitioned to long snapper and committed to play at Dordt College in Iowa, then transferring to San Bernardino Valley College in California. After a successful stint there, he chose a preferred walk-on offer at OSU over other scholarship offers. Why?“Oklahoma State was one of the bigger offers, and I thought it would be a perfect platform to share my story,” Zaragoza said. But when he got on campus, he didn’t make a big deal of his condition. He worked hard, and teammates say he never complained or let on about his situation. “Honestly, at first, I had no clue about his history, you know, how he was brought up and the struggles he faced as a kid,” said fellow long snapper Matt Hembrough. “Because he doesn’t choose to live by that. Like, he doesn’t want people to know him by the autoimmune disease he has.” As OSU fans traveled north for the Cowboys’ game against Iowa State last October, one was already there waiting. A woman in Iowa contacted Zaragoza’s mother through a Facebook group and told her about her son, Grayson, and his battle with OMS. Zaragoza and Grayson got to know each other through those online interactions, and he got Grayson tickets to the game in Ames – even though they’re Iowa Hawkeye fans – just so they could meet in person. “Those interactions are awesome, like, I live for that,” Zaragoza said. “Because, you know, it looks like I’m putting a smile on their face, but they’re really putting a smile on my face.” Those instances are why Zaragoza chose to play Division I football and a reminder of the platform he has. He continues to live out his dream against the odds, and he never loses sight of his motivation. “Definitely a lot of hard work,” Zaragoza said. “All the glory to God with that. It was tough, but now I just want to share my story and get it heard and hopefully inspire and give hope to kids that are in that same situation.”AbbyCageCowboy long snapper Zeke Zaragoza is beloved by his teammates for his courage and talent.
Many people may plan to give when they receive a great amount of money, but that large amount of money may never come. We may plan to give time or talent to a project when we have more time, but that perfect time arrangement may never happen. Again, the apostle Paul encourages us “as you have opportunity, do good to all men.”
The woman, who poured the precious ointment on Jesus just before he was crucified, was criticized for “wasting” this expensive item. Yet, Jesus said everywhere the gospel is preached this woman’s action would be told. (Mk 14:3-9) Little things mean a lot as we are willing to serve the Lord. Paul mentions many in Romans 16 who helped him. The Good Samaritan stopped to help the man beaten and robbed. (Lu.10:30-37) Paul writes as you have opportunity, do good to all men, especially to other believers.(Gal.6:10) When the poor widow dropped the two pennies, all that she had, into the temple offering. Jesus said she gave more the large offerings given. Her “large giving” was in relation to what she had. (Mk.12:41-44) There is a short chorus that has encouraged me many times. “Little is much if God is in it. Labor not for wealth or fame. There’s a crown and you can win it. If you go in Jesus’ name.”

In 12 - 18 months, Stillwater will be home to the largest supercomputer in Oklahoma powered by the same type of video cards that help create video games.OSU received a Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) award from the National Science Foundation that will allow the construction of a new supercomputer capable of analyzing and processing immense amounts of data atPete, once.OSU’s current supercomputer, has already served over 1,600 users around Oklahoma. With this new supercomputer, the amount of users will be much greater spreading around the OAK region, which is a region encompassing Oklahoma, Arkansas and Kansas. “OSU has long provided highperformance research computing to our faculty and students, driving OSU accomplishments in big data analytics, genomics and other key arenas,” said Kenneth Sewell, OSU vice president for research. “The increased capabilities this grant will create allow us to expand our leadership to the entire region, multiplying our impact.”

Super speed in research
Pratul Agarwal, assistant vice president of research cyberinfrastructure and director of the High Performance Computer Center, spoke with The O’Colly about how this supercomputer will help those in the OAK region compete nationally and internationally for research using this supercomputer.“Everyaspect of research is using some form of computer,” Agarwal said. “Computing is extremely essential for research in general, and moreover what’s also happened is you are generating a lot more data, there are lots of sensors and the capabilities of the research equipment is a lot more in terms of generating data. This becomes important because if you need a computer to analyze the data, it has to keep up with the amount of data which is beingResearchersgenerated.”at OSU working on metagenomics, sequencing trillions of bacteria in soil, will be able to speed up their process with this supercomputer that can analyze the larger amount of data at a faster speed. Not only will staff in modeling proteins and working on metagenomics be able to learn to use this computing power, students will have the opportunity to learn about this artificial intelligence. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in workshops across campuses in the OAK region once the supercomputer is running. “This is a big deal for students who want to be in the area of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and learn about computing in general,” Agarwal said.
