Cowgirls advance to Super Regionals behind Miranda Elish’s clutch performance

“It’s been a roller coaster... just keeping her positive about the outlook. She wants to pitch so bad to help this team and it’s just been a struggle,” OSU coach Kenny Gajewski said. With the shoulder injury still lingering for Elish, her mindset has now switched from desperately wanting to pitch to just doing whatever she can for the team and looking out for her other pitchers in the bullpen. “Just trying to do whatever I can I mean; Kelly (Maxwell) and Morgan (Day) have been pitching their butts off so I’m just happy I can contribute,” Elish said in regard to helping her teammates that have recently been in the circle. “Even if it’s just putting the ball in play hard that’s all I’m trying to do just to make their job a little bit easier.” With the victory, the Cowgirls advance to Super Regionals, where they will take on Clemson. begin their series against the Tigers on Thursday and (if necessary) could host them until Sunday. In Elish’s mind though, the Cowgirls aren’t just a Super Regional-worthy team, but a legitimate contender in the Women’s College World Series. “If you look at us in the beginning of the season people might not have thought that we would make it to the World Series,” Elish said. “Now, I don’t think there’s a doubt in my mind that if we play how we did this weekend we’ll be there.” The Cowgirls are now only a week and a half away from Oklahoma City, but they’ll have to take down a top-10 team to get there. However, with Elish still contributing to the team in some fashion, they are in a good position to make it to their second straight College World Series. “Just clutch, that’s what she’s been here all year long,” said Gajewski. sports.ed@ocolly.com

With two seasons of the show under its belt, it has made its mark as a show that nails the crime drama tone that is attempted by many and excels with superb acting and direction throughout the show. With highly regarded director David Fincher acting as a producer, “Mindhunter” has some of the best cinematic shots and writing that I have seen in a TV series. WHEN IS LITTLE MUCH?

There is a short chorus that has encouraged me many times. “Little is much if God is in it. Labor not for wealth or fame. There’s a crown and you can win it. If you go in Jesus’ name.” The woman, who poured the precious ointment on Jesus just before he was crucified, was criticized for “wasting” this expensive item. Yet, Jesus said everywhere the gospel is preached this woman’s action would be told. (Mk 14:3-9) Little things mean a lot as we are willing to serve the Lord. Paul mentions many in Romans 16 who helped him. The Good Samaritan stopped to help the man beaten and robbed. (Lu.10:30-37) Paul writes as you have opportunity, do good to all men, especially to other believers.(Gal.6:10) When the poor widow dropped the two pennies, all that she had, into the temple offering. Jesus said she gave more the large offerings given. Her “large giving” was in relation to what she had. (Mk.12:41-44)

Many people may plan to give when they receive a great amount of money, but that large amount of money may never come. We may plan to give time or talent to a project when we have more time, but that perfect time arrangement may never happen. Again, the apostle Paul encourages us “as you have opportunity, do good to all men.” We never know when a little gesture of kindness, with money, or helping in an area of service, spending a little time with a person, a word of encouragement, will be just the action that will be a great help to someone. These can be practical ways of living out the Lord’s challenge to love one another. This is the fulfilling of the many commandments in the Bible: loving people by word and action.

Kelly Maxwell had complete control. The source of her dominance? A pitch she did not control well enough to throw for a long time. Oklahoma State beat North Texas 2-0 on Sunday evening to win the Stillwater Regional. It was Maxwell’s, a junior pitcher, second shutout win in the week. “I don’t think it is a secret, (Maxwell) is really good,” coach Kenny Gajewski said. “Really proud of her. Just had complete command.” Her success came from her changeup; a pitch she did not throw this time a year ago. Maxwell developed her off-speed pitch over the fall. She used to throw primarily rise balls, and while that is still her go-to pitch, the changeup adds a dimension of deception to her repertoire. “I think (the changeup) has taken me to another level,” Maxwell said. “In the past year and stuff I only had like two pitches, and really only one. Being able to have (the changeup) and be able to change speeds against top hitters makes my job easier.” Maxwell (18-4) poured in a bevy well-placed of rise balls, drop balls and changeups to UNT hitters. She surrendered two hits, one of which was a popup that fell after second baseman Karli Petty lost it in the sun. Gajewski was complimentary of his pitcher’s efficiency. Maxwell did not walk any batters, allowing her to cruise while keeping her pitch count low. “Anytime you can throw a seveninning complete game with 15 K’s and only have 91 pitches, that means your pumping a lot of strikes and had complete command of the game,” Gajewski said. Maxwell was coming off a sparkling performance in OSU’s first game Kelly Maxwell pitched over 10 strikeouts against North Texas.

The strangest thing Ranking previous “Stranger Things” seasons “Stranger Things 2” feels like each character is fully fledged out and relationships start to form between characters that are some of the best to ever make it on television. The tone and pacing of some of its highest highs and lowest “Stranger Things” is fantastic and does lows. Without the task of having to set not feel like any of the eight episodes up the characters the first season did, are not necessary for the larger story.

The performances throughout the first season are also phenomenal whether it be the children who portray surprisingly great performances at times, or Winona Ryder as the terrified mother Joyce Byers who is hell-bent on finding her missing child. With great writing and storytelling from the Duffer brothers and good direction from Shawn Levy, “Stranger Things” checks all the boxes for a great TV show and is worthy of all the praise it has received. “Stranger Things 3” (2019) With a two year wait between seasons and the ending of the second addition to the series leaving fans wondering where it could go next, “Stranger Things 3” delivers what is still my favorite season to date. “Stranger Things 3” takes the aesthetic of 1985 and absolutely runs with it in the best way possible. The latest installment takes everything that the past seasons touched on and elevates it to the max, giving us some of the best comedy, acting, drama and horror the series has explored. It is also impossible to mention “Stranger Things 3” without talking about the incredible finale that showcased the Battle of Starcourt Mall and delivered some of the best moments of the show with all our beloved characters coming together in an emotion-filled, action-packed showdown. The “Stranger Things” series has been one of the most popular shows of the last six years, and for good reason. With each season prospering in its own aspect, I would not consider there to be a bad season of the show under the belt of the Duffer brothers. “Stranger Things 4” promises to be as big as ever and a true event for the series with the last two episodes of part two being approximately two hours long. Part one of “Stranger Things 4” will be released on Netflix this Memorial Day weekend, May 27, 2022. Make sure to tune in and see where the rollercoaster takes us next.
