On Wednesday, the Big 12 Con ference released a statement regarding the exploration of an accelerated media rights deal with its current partners, ESPN and FOX. “It is an exciting time for col lege athletics and given the changing landscape we welcome the opportunity to engage with our partners to deter mine if an early extension is in the best interest of all parties,” said new Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark. “The Big 12 has enjoyed a fantastic relation ship with its multi-media rights hold ers, and I look forward to having these conversations.”Thesenegotiations have been bumped up due to a culmination of two things. One is the Big Ten agreeing on a $1 billion media rights deal with three different outlets; FOX, CBS and NBC earlier in August. The other is the race to agree on a new media deal between the Big 12 and the Pac-12. The two conferences are racing to be the first to secure a bigger, more lucrative deal, using it as a tactic to potentially poach teams from each conference. With advanced talks regarding a new media deal comes consequences, in the form of OU and Texas. Shortly after the Big 12 engaged in these talks, new reports emerged that Oklahoma and Texas are actively in discussions of leaving early for the SEC, according to Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports.Lastsummer, the move that started the shift in conference align ment was Oklahoma and Texas an nouncing their move to the SEC in 2025. But, since the Big 12 is now negotiating a deal that does not include the two departing schools, there is no need for the schools to continue with the conference.
The Cowboys will be one running back short Thursday night without Deondre Jackson. OSU running back Jackson out for opener OSU will soon be home to a three-year men tor program for recent biology graduate students. The National Sci ence Foundation Research and Mentoring for Post baccalaureates in Biologi cal Sciences (RaMP) will begin in the summer 2023, and will feature a start ing class of eight mentees. These mentees will spend time researching, training and building professional skills for future careers. Assistant integra tive biology teacher Dr. Liz McCullagh said in an OSU press release that un derstanding these complex issues that the program will provide is vital for any career in the future. “Strong mentorship by leaders in biological fields is one of the most critical factors in reten tion of people in STEM fields,” McCullagh said. “An important aspect of the NSF’s RaMP program is training opportunities for faculty in how to help students and recent gradu ates build their resumes, making them competitive in future STEM careers.” Faculty in OSU’s Department of Integrative Biology said this program will help train and

It’s been 277 days since a football game was played on the field of Boone PickensAboutStadium.2,181 days ago, Central Michigan stunned OSU on its home field inOn2016.Thursday, the two are sched uled to kick off each of its seasons in Stillwater. Here are three storylines to fol low for Thursday night’s game. For an optimist, I’m pretty pes simistic In the past three seasons OSU quarterback Spencer Sanders has started for the Cowboys, week one is always a tough one. In 2019, OSU opened in Corvallis against Oregon State, Sanders played well, but running back Chuba Hubbard outshined the young quarterback. In 2020, Sanders injured his an kle in the second quarter of the season opener vs Tulsa. And in 2021, he once again missed some action — this time the entire game, as he was sidelined with COVID-19 against Missouri State. Now, as the most experienced, and arguably best player on the offense, Sanders will have to come out of the gate at full strength in order for OSU to have a chance to win at home. Not just Sanders, but the team typically struggles in the nonconfer ence game, especially season openers. The Cowboys squeaked by Tulsa and Missouri State in low scoring contests in the last two first games. A young defense with a new coordinator and weapons on offense could be troubling for an OSU program which struggles in the first few weeks of the season. Big Lew’s The NCAA’s leading rusher, Central Michigan running back Lew Nichols III, took the MAC, and nation by storm, eclipsing more than 1,800 rushing yards last season as a redshirt freshman.Trying to stop him? An almost brand new OSU defense. Linebackers Mason Cobb and Xavier Benson are starting for the first time at the Division I level. If Nichols can get into the second level of the OSU defense, new Cowboy starters will be tasked with stopping one of the best backs in the country. Gundy going for win No. 150 OSU coach Mike Gundy, in his 18th season, sits at 149 wins in his career.Gundy spoke last week about the chances he had in the past to already be at 150 wins, including the aforemen tioned Central Michigan game from 2016. Gundy already has the most wins in program history, by a large margin as well. The next closest is Pat Jones, with 62 wins from 1984 to 1994, who coached Barry Sanders, Thurman Thomas and Gundy.

1InCo.15 the Apostle Paul is reminding these believers of Christ’s resurrection and how true and real it was. He continues by emphasizing the sure promise of God that we are going to share in that resurrec tion one day. We will have a new, eternal body like Jesus has now. As we help in the work of God, furthering his kingdom; demonstrating the love of God in blessing and serving others; as you and I get involved with helping missionary work, even going to help in short term mission trips or providing finances for others to go, we are laying up treasure in heaven “where moths cannot corrupt and thieves cannot Actually, steal.”this kingdom of God, with forgive ness of all our sins and a new relationship with God as our Father, is offered to all mankind. If you have never opened your heart to Christ, asking for a clean heart and a new life; the door is open wide for you to come. You will not be turned away. Then you too can begin to live for the eternal: laying up treasure in Heaven. I en courage all to consider these words, no matter your age, and choose the best and most satisfying life. It is a life following Christ as your Lord, and going for God’s best in eternity. It is a great and sure future! sports.ed@ocolly.com

ETERNITY IN MIND!
“ Therefore, my beloved brethren, be stead fast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” (1 Co.15:58 NKJ) Just about everything in this life is tempo rary. Yet, most people work very hard to have a pleasant few years in their lifetime. I would like to remind the true Christians that God is offering us an eternity of bless ing as we serve him and his purposes now.

There have been many sports films over the years and admittedly they can all blend together sometimes and follow a formulaic way of film making, but that does not mean that there are not some that are incredible despite the mold. With the return of Oklahoma State Cowboys football, now seems as fitting a time as ever to rank what I think are the three best football movies.
Favorite football films
entertainment.ed@ocolly.com
No. 3 “The Blind Side” (2009) Telling the biographical tale of Michael Oher as he finds a fam ily who cares about him both on and off the field, “The Blind Side” shows the heartfelt story of a boy realizing his potential and just how much he is capable of in the classroom and on the football field. It goes without saying that “The Blind Side” runs into some of the cliché flaws of the genre and it rides the line of being too sentimental, but in the end, I feel like it manages to be a rare case where despite the formula the film works. The strongest part of the “The Blind Side” is without a doubt the performance of Sandra Bullock who absolutely thrives in the role Leigh Anne Tuohy and provides the heart and soul of the movie that separates it from just being mediocre. No. 2 “Rudy” (1993) “Rudy” is one of those films that tells the classic story of beating the odds but pulls it off in a way that is smart, heartwarming and pushes all the correct emotional buttons. A story of a dyslexic boy that wants to play football at the University of Notre Dame, but cannot pay tuition, must deal with the hurdles of both overcom ing his dyslexia then trying to make it into school and the football team is a great premise on paper and is trans lated fantastically onto the screen. One of the biggest things that “Rudy” has going for it is that it does not ever feel like Rudy is trying to achieve these unrealistic goals and is some abovelife hero. He is simply a kid that shows great persistence and will and he always gives his all and tries to do the best he can in his situation. Sean Astin as Rudy is almost cheating in a way since Astin is such a loveable and fun guy to watch and root for. “Rudy” de livers the perfect amount of sentiment and good feelings that you will want from a football movie. No. 1 “Remember the Titans” (2000) The only football movie that I could fathom placing in the number one spot over “Rudy,” “Remember the Titans” is a bonafide classic that transcends being just a great football movie. This 2000s hit is not just an entertaining watch but is also a thought provoking and compelling crowd pleaser. Something that “Remember the Titans” does remarkably well is the depth and personality that it gives to each individual player providing the story with sever well-defined charac ters. It is impossible to mention to talk about “Remember the Titans” without giving credit to its cast, but the show stealer is Denzel Washington. Giving cinema one of its most memorable and inspiring performances, Washington’s performance of coach Boone is a gift to see.
