OSU secondary to deal with Texas Tech air raid offense
Wyatt Phillips Staff Reporter

After losing four of five starters in the OSU secondary to the transfer portal and NFL draft, young players were thrown into the fire to open the season thus far.
And it has showed.
The OSU secondary is lacking in experience this year. During the season opener, Central Michigan quarterback Daniel Richardson threw for 424 yards and four touchdowns, toasting OSU’s young defensive backs. Last weekend,

Buddy Guy to perform at McKnight Center

This is the moment music fans have been waiting for.
American blues guitarist and singer George “Buddy” Guy plays at Stillwa ter’s own McK night Center for the Performing Arts on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Guy has influenced gen erations of blues musicians includ ing artists such as Jimi Hendrix, John Mayer and Eric Clapton.
Clapton has described Guy as the “best guitar player alive” and his achievements reflect that state ment.
Guy has won eight Gram
my Awards, was ranked 23rd in Rolling Stones magazine’s “100 Greatest Guitar ists of All Time” and many other honors such as the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, National Medal of Arts and Kennedy Center Honors.
“No mat ter how great the song, or perfor mance, my ear would always find him out,” Clapton said when induct ing Guy into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
“He stood out in the mix, simply by virtue of the originality and vitality of his playing.”
Guy’s music style is often labeled Chicago blues, but his foundation goes deeper than that.
the Cowboys surrendered 359 pass ing yards to Baylor quarterback Blake Shapen.
This Saturday, OSU takes on Texas Tech, a team that leads the Big 12 in passing attempts under offensive coordinator Zach Kittley’s air raid style offense.
“(Quarterback Donovan Smith) takes a lot of risks and makes coura geous throws,” said Texas Tech coach Joey McGuire.
Smith has thrown for 11 touch downs so far this season, albeit with seven interceptions.
Coverage downfield is going to have to be the best that it has been this
season. There is little room for error due to the aggressiveness of the Red Raider offense. If the Cowboys lock up from the start, they are going to force Texas Tech to get out of their comfort zone and start running through the front five.
Players to watch for Texas Tech No. 1: Donovan Smith, quarter back
Smith has thrown 214 passes this season through only five games. Last season, when the Cowboys traveled to Lubbock, they shut out the Red Raiders 23-0. With another year of experience under his belt, Wilson is hoping to be able to put some points up on the board
against a very similar OSU defense.
No. 2 Xavier White, wide re ceiver
Last week, Xavier White caught nine passes for 120 yards and a touch down in a loss at Kansas State. White is the big hitter for the Red Raider offense. On the season he has only caught 15 passes, but has made the most of it, with 208 yards total so far. This Saturday, the Cowboys are going to have to worry about the big hitter plays, and Xavier White looks like the guy that they are going to look for downfield.
Bedlam Domination
OSU dominates in a forgoing rivalry
its the biggest rivalry and match for OSU.
Davis Cordova Staff Reporter
It’s the most antici pated match on the schedule each season, soon it may go away.
Bedlam soccer will be an afterthought in a few years once Oklahoma makes the move to the SEC. Nonetheless, the series between OU is important to OSU’s program in different ways, the main one being

“(Bedlam), it’s very important,” said coach Colin Carmichael. “I’m not from Oklahoma, but when I moved here, it was made clear very, very quickly that Bedlam means a lot to everybody in Stillwater and that was ingrained in me a long, long time ago.”
With the series more than likely going away, OSU loses a lot of things, including the excitement and buzz around a Bedlam gameday.
“What you lose is that gameday atmosphere,” Car michael said. “The crowds are a little bit more intense, a little bit more attention
to the game than usual and the rivalry, so you lose that aspect.”
But, there are still matches to be played, with one coming up on Thursday in Norman. The Cowgirls head south with a 9-1-2 re cord, tying with Texas Tech last week to open homeconference play. On the other hand, OU welcomes OSU with a 7-3-2 record coming off a loss to Texas Tech.
OSU dominates the Bedlam series with a record of 31-9-3 with the Cowgirls’ last loss coming in 2018.
OSU senior Grace Yochum is 5-1-1 against the Sooners and she doesn’t want to be on the downside of success
versus OU as the rivalry is on its last legs.
“I don’t want to be on the other end of losing one of our last games against them,” Yochum said.
“We’ve had a great record against them for so long and so I don’t want to be the group that goes off on the wrong foot. We believe we’re the better team, if we just play the soccer we know how to play, but at the end of the day, they want to make it a fight, they want to be competitive and that’s fine. But, I think if we play our game, we win.”

Jaden Besteda Staff Reporter

The lovable Sanderson sisters
About 30 years ago, “Hocus Pocus” gave us the trio of the memo rable Salem witches who created chaos all throughout Halloween night after the Black Flame Candle resurrected them. With “Hocus Pocus 2,” the candle does its magic once more in the sequel. “Hocus Pocus 2” is a sequel that has taken long enough to introduce an entire new generation to the wonderful wacky world of Halloween Witchery.
Director Anne Fletcher does a good job with the film. It has a great blend of the 1993 framework while still having a modern feel to the film. There’s no doubt that this movie is one that takes place in the modern time. The screenplay from Jen D’Angelo blends the nostalgia with a story that the younger and new generation viewers can enjoy. There are several parts of the story that bring back the original movie in new and creative ways while still giv ing the three sisters some more ground to cover in their arcs.
Becca, who Whitney Peak, plays, goes to the local witchcraft store to pick up some supplies and ultimately get the story going. Like any regular teenage child, Becca decides to celebrate her 16th birthday in the only way she knows how. Heading to the woods with her best friend Izzy, who Belissa Escobedo plays. Hijinks and Witchcraft ensue as Becca and Izzy summon the Sanderson sisters after an honest mistake which, allows them to escape onto the town.
This time is different for the sisters. Given that it has been about 30 years since they were last seen, the sisters have become more than a tale but more Halloween legends. When you blend that new twist and the technology aspect of it for them, “Hocus Pocus” becomes an interesting and funny story that definitely benefits being set in 2022.
Ultimately, this is a story about sisterhood and with the new trio of characters, Becca, Izzy and Cassie the parallel between them and the witches may be a bit too obvious. Still, it works

well and helps the heart of the film.

The stakes in the film aren’t high even when they may want to be given the kid friendly nature. However, the Halloween

spirit is all there and will have the film being rewatched near Oct. 30.

“Hocus Pocus 2” is a good sequel that builds upon the original in clever
ways while making interesting new characters and expanding on the titular ones.

ETERNITY IN MIND!
(1 Co.15:58 NKJ)

Just about everything in this life is tempo rary. Yet, most people work very hard to have a pleasant few years in their lifetime. I would like to remind the true Christians that God is offering us an eternity of bless ing as we serve him and his purposes now. In 1 Co.15 the Apostle Paul is reminding these believers of Christ’s resurrection and how true and real it was. He continues by emphasizing the sure promise of God that we are going to share in that resurrec tion one day. We will have a new, eternal body like Jesus has now. As we help in the work of God, furthering his kingdom;
demonstrating the love of God in blessing and serving others; as you and I get involved with helping missionary work, even going to help in short term mission trips or providing finances for others to go, we are laying up treasure in heaven “where moths cannot corrupt and thieves cannot steal.”

Actually, this kingdom of God, with forgive ness of all our sins and a new relationship with God as our Father, is offered to all mankind. If you have never opened your heart to Christ, asking for a clean heart and a new life; the door is open wide for you to come. You will not be turned away. Then you too can begin to live for the eternal: laying up treasure in Heaven. I en courage all to consider these words, no matter your age, and choose the best and most satisfying life. It is a life following Christ as your Lord, and going for God’s best in eternity. It is a great and sure future!

“ Therefore, my beloved brethren, be stead fast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”
“Chainsaw Man”: The Next Big Anime
Baylor Bryant Staff ReporterThe top contend er for anime of the year is coming out in just a few days.

“Chainsaw Man” is an action, comedy, horror manga that is an experience unlike any thing else. In the genre itself, “Chainsaw Man” balances both its horror and comedic elements well giving all kinds of readers a good experi ence. Paired along with breathtaking action sequences, the manga never has a dull mo ment.
“Chainsaw Man” was the seventh highest selling manga series in 2021 with more than 5.2 million copies sold. This is most impres sive considering the six manga ahead of Chain saw Man have already had anime adaptations, thus boosting their sales. “Chainsaw Man” saw higher sales in 2021 than “Haikyuu,” the highest selling sports manga of the year, which already had four seasons of an anime adapted.
So what makes “Chainsaw Man” stand out amongst other topselling manga?
Chainsaw Man’s unique twist on exist ing shounen tropes, its wacky yet sometimes horrifying cast of char acters, and the overall pretty outrageous events that occur in the manga make “Chain saw Man” stand out.
The main gim mick of “Chainsaw Man” is that every
day fears exist in the form of devils. This could be as simple as a fear of bats creating the bat devil, or even deeper fears such as darkness, hunger, or even the idea of being controlled are their own sentient creatures. The characters in the manga sign contracts with certain devils to gain their powers, thus being able to fend off malicious devils.

“Chainsaw Man” follows the story of Denji, a young man who makes a con tract with a devil that grants him the ability to transform his body parts into chainsaws. With these powers, Denji joins a group of devil-hunting humans to exterminate the evils of the world.
“Chainsaw Man” shares some similari ties to anime such as “Tokyo Ghoul,” “Jujut su Kaisen” and “Para syte.” So if you are fans of any of those, “Chainsaw Man” could be the perfect anime for you.
Mappa Studios, the same company that animated “Jujutsu Kai sen,” is adapting the anime. “Jujutsu Kai sen” won best action in 2021. This gives high hopes for the adapta tion of “Chainsaw Man,” with the trailer also looking very promising.
“Chainsaw Man” will have 12 episodes in its first season and the first episode will premiere Tuesday on Crunchyroll.

The soul...

His sound is more unique and separate than most traditional Chi cago blues artists. His playing can vary from the deepest, most tradi tional blues music to a creative and unpredictable combination of blues, rock, soul and jazz that varies with his performances.

No two videos of Guy playing are alike. His sound is something that
students will want to hear this Friday evening.
Guy’s latest album, The Blues Is Alive and Well, showcases his raw and unique sound. The 15-track album has a mix of styles that any blues fan, whether a new listener or seasoned veteran, can enjoy.
“I’m always trying to make an album that someone accidentally plays where some kid hears it, picks up a guitar and helps keep the blues alive,” Guy said.
The concert is part of the McK night Center’s pep rally event series with ticket packages that Devon En

Super six: “My Hero Academia” season preview
Baylor Bryant Staff Reporter

One of the best current running shounen anime is back out with its sixth season.
“My Hero Academia” is a shounen action anime set in a world where 80% of the population are born with super powers called “quirks”. The premise is similar to that of the X-Men, but in stead of the superpowered beings being ridiculed, society ridicules the people without “quirks.”
The story follows Izuku Midoriya, a junior high student whose dream is to be the world’s greatest hero. The prob lem is, unlike 80% of the population,

Midoriya was born without a “quirk”. His classmates, his teachers, and even his childhood hero all don’t believe he can become a hero. It’s not until Midori ya pulls off a tremendous act of hero ism that his childhood hero, All Might, agrees to train Midoriya into becoming a great hero.
“My Hero Academia” is a super hero story at its core. “My Hero Aca demia’s” creator, Kohei Horikoshi, has taken a lot of inspiration from Western superheroes including Marvel charac ters. Midoriya himself is reminiscent of Marvel’s Spider-Man.
“My Hero Academia” does a good job of using the superhero genre and translating it into a high school setting. Horikoshi does a good job of relat ing the problems these students have
with their super powers to real world problems that teenagers have to face. However, with the large amount of characters in the show many of the side characters do not get the characteriza tion needed, and many characters have super powers that are useless or forget ful.

This however, can not be said for the villains in the series. Horikoshi’s strong suit in his writing is his villains. Almost every main villain in the story has a fleshed out character and backsto ry that uses their “quirk” as a character trait. In a series where the power system is a physical part of the character, it is important for the motives of the char acters to relate to their power. Nobody does this better with their villains than Horikoshi.
The anime is filled with visually spectacular fight scenes, deep emotional moments and enough high-tension mo ments to keep you on the edge of your seat. Midoriya, the series protagonist, also goes through some of the best char acter development in recent anime. With a great story, great dynamics, and some very good animation, which Bones Studio made, “My Hero Academia” is a great anime for every kind of viewer.
“My Hero Academia” is on its sixth season. Episodes of the anime will be released on Crunchyroll on Satur days, with the first episode already out.
