“We’re playing a very good Florida At lantic team. Their head coach Patrick Baker is a good friend of mine, known him for years,” Carmichael said. “You know, an ACC team in Miami, they’re going to be very athletic they’re going to be very seasoned from playing in the ACC, so, a really good program. First and foremost, two great games and you know, we really need that test, if I’m honest with you. We were hop ing for this Sunday. So, getting these two games in Florida is going to be great.”Carmichael realizes that the team will be in one of the more touristic areas of the country. With that being the case, he’s going to make sure the girls get to enjoy the trip outside of the competi tion.

Daniels started at USC for his first two seasons, but dealt with injuries, then transferred to Geor gia in 2020. Daniels played some in Athens, but was the backup to Stetson Bennett on the 2022 national champion ship squad. Now at West Virginia, Daniels has one more shot to make his mark on college football. Quarterback Luke Baylor,Anthony, firstyear: 2016 Being the only seventh-year player on this list, I am not sure how Anthony is still able to play college football. He is currently the third-string quarter back at Baylor, and is unlikely to see any playing time. Running Back: Emari Demercado, TCU, first year: 2017 The only sixthyear running back in the defaultDemercadoconference, wasthechoicefor this list. The former JUCO player, De mercado is currently a backup in TCU’s running back room with 934 yards and four touchdowns in his career thus far.

“They wanna go see the beach, so we’ll take them to the beach and get to put their feet in the ocean,” Carmichael said. “They’ve asked me about mini golf, so we might do that. I know there’s a big shopping area right by the hotel, that’s always big with the team. We’ll do some stuff, but we’ll also make sure we’re getting that rest and recovery and making sure we’re focusing in on the games as well.”While Florida may be known for its beau tiful waters and cool ocean breeze, it can also get extremely hot and humid. When perform ing in sports that require constant movement, that can cause muscular is sues with athletes, mostly cramping. Carmichael and the nutrition staff have been ahead of the game and making sure the girls are hydrated and ready for the week

Most college students, even stu dent-athletes, gradu ate and leave within four or five years. But with the NCAA awarding all athletes who played in the COVID short ened 2020 season, many around the country are still eligible for college football in 2022. With many in the Big 12, The O’Colly put together a list of the All-Big 12 super senior first team: Quarterback: JT Daniels, West Virginia, first year: 2018 The former No. 2 quarterback in the 2018 recruit ing class, Daniels has yet to live up to his five-star ranking.

OSU hasn’t made a trip to Florida since 2015 and it will be playing for better results than its previous trip. In 2015, the Cowgirls lost to Central Florida and Florida. No player listed on the Cowgirl roster is from the state of Florida. While the team is in Florida on a business trip, they are going to soak up some of the best amuse ment the state has to offer. Forward Gracie Bindbeu tel singled out a girl who’s been pushing for a beach visit while in the Boca Raton, Florida, area. “I know Grace Yochum has been push ing for a lot of that kind of stuff, so I think we’ll get to,” Bindbeutel said. “She wants to do some stuff on the water, I don’t even know what all of it entails. But, I know she’s been pushing to do stuff outside of Coachsoccer.”Colin Carmi chael is excited about the return to Florida, espe cially because of the slate of games lined up.

Notebook: Bindbeutel college transition, team finding identity

A looming four-match road stretch for OSU soccer awaits, with two matches in Florida this upcoming week. These upcoming matches will give more insight to how the new play ers are adjusting to the program and how the team is finding its identity.

Davis Cordova StaffNotebookReporter

For OSU soccer, there are a plethora of new starters which includes freshmen and transfers. New starters means a new game plan for the team. While still trying to find the identity of his team, Carmichael said finding the players who can step up is contributing to an unknown identity heading into the road trip.“It’s more about trying to figure out which players can step on the field and help us in these types of games,” Carmichael said. “At Omaha, and Mis souri State at home, people got chances, but the level is going up, and you know, this is a different level. So, figuring out who can help you win those games, there’s only one way to do it, and that’s to play those kids.” Mackenzie Janish Freshman forward Gracie Bindbeutel (in white) recorded her first collegiate goal against Missouri State on Aug. 21.

On Tuesday, OSU coach Colin Carmichael and players of the team spoke to the media, here are a few points from the availability. Freshman transition OSU forward Gracie Bindbeutel is one of three freshmen starting for OSU soccer this season. Freshmen beginning school and adjusting to col lege soccer is hard, but the three have had extra work by advancing their play to become starters for the team at the beginning of the season. For Bindbeutel, the difference between high school soccer and col lege soccer is the intensity level, but Bindbeutel said the help from her experienced teammates has made the transition easy. “It’s definitely very different, it’s definitely a different type of intensity,” Bindbeutel said. “But, all the older girls are helping all of us younger girls adjustAmongperfectly.”the older players, OSU senior forward Olyvia Dowell has been the most influential in Bindbeutel’s development. Bindbeutel said that the communication between her and Dow ell is what stands out the most. “It’s just the communication that she gives me in the game,” Bindbeutel said. “If I’m ever confused, don’t know what to do or don’t know where to go, she’s always behind me telling me what to do and that’s more important than, I think, any off-the-field advice she could give me.” Adjusted practice Road trips can be hard for coach es to find time for practice, especially when the trips are long, such as OSU’s upcoming two-game road trip to the state of Florida. According to Carmi chael, road trips, like this week, will affect the practice schedule. Tuesday was the team’s final “full” practice until next week.“This was our only real prac tice day this week,” Carmichael said. “Obviously, we were supposed to play Sunday, so Monday was our off day, so we’re training hard today. Tomorrow (Wednesday) we travel and on Thurs day morning we’ll do a walkthrough and play that night. So, it definitely interrupts our schedule.” Even though the adjustments to the practice schedule may be worri some to a coaching staff, Carmichael said that he’s not worried because other teams are doing the same thing. “It doesn’t (worry me) because everybody is doing it,” Carmichael said. “If other teams had a different schedule, it would.”

Finding an identity After a 1-0 performance last Thursday versus Tulsa, a match that saw an own-goal, Carmichael says the team is still trying to find its identity, whether that be a possession team, a quick counter team or a hybrid of both. “Still trying to figure it out,” Carmichael said. “We want to be hard to play against, we want to be tough to beat. We’re trying to figure out are we a ball possession team? Are we a quick counter team? Are we some sort of a hybrid? In years past, we’ve been a little bit of a hybrid.”

The survey, conducted among 1,500 U.S. adults, also found that two-thirds of Americans — 66% — believe political divisions have gotten worse since the beginning of 2021. In comparison, only 8% said the United States has grown less divided. Most respondents also said they expected more political violence in the coming years, with Republicans more likely than Democrats to hold that opinion.TheFBI’s search of Mar-a-Lago has fanned the political flames. More than 2 in 5 Americans say a U.S. civil war is at least somewhat likely in the next decade, highlighting the deepening political divisions in the country heading into the mid terms.A recent poll by YouGov and The Economist found that 43% be lieve a civil war was either “very” or “somewhat likely.” People who identi fied as “strong Republicans” were the most likely to anticipate a conflict. One in 3 of total respondents said it’s not very or at all likely, and 22% are unsure.“Polarization right now is at the highest level in decades, if not go ing all the way back to the civil war,” Thomas Gift, director of the Univer sity College London’s Center on U.S. Politics said in an interview. But he urged caution interpreting the data; he noted this type of conflict doesn’t typically break out in wealthy, demo cratic countries and it’s unclear what respondents imagine when they think of a “civil war.”

“My Forever Story” by JID album art.

“The Forever Story” by JID is not an easy and casual first listen. It’s easy to miss a lot of the wordplay and underlined themes that are inside the album on your first listen. You might recognize him from his sped-up cadence, radio pop song features, or signature hair.

JID’s

improvement

entertainment.ed@ocolly.comViaGoogleImages

JID was introduced when he signed to “Dreamville Re cords”, a record label founded by rapper, J. Cole, in 2017. This was an interest ing move, considering JID had not released an album yet. His choice in signing with “Dream ville Records” became clear af ter releasing his first two studio albums, “The Never Story” and “Dicaprio 2”. These two albums proved why JID deserves to be included in the conversation for one of the world’s top rappers. In his third and newest project, “The Forever Story”, I think he solidifies his spot in that conver sation.“The Forever Story” isn’t exactly what you may expect going into a typical JID album. So far, his songs have shown skills of elite technical rapping. In “The Forever Story”, JID uses these skills, but also allows storytelling to take the wheel. Songs like “Sistanem” and “Crack Sandwich” show these skills the best and are arguably the two best songs on the 15-track collec tion. These songs demonstrate JID’s ability to give the bars needed to keep an audience glued in while telling a captivating story at the same time. “Sistanem” details a complicated brother-sister relationship. Throughout three verses he explains how even though you can love someone, that doesn’t mean you’ll always stay in contact. “Crack Sandwich” demonstrates a very vivid representation of his family and how his upbringing shaped him as a person. It’s not just the unusual three-verse songs that make this album memorable; the diversity of sound stands out. When track seven, “Kody Blu 31” begins playing the album takes a tonal shift. The song starts with the sound of a movie curtain opening, “And now our feature presentation,” possibly signifying that the album is heading in a completely different direction. For the first time in his career, JID is singing and not in the typical vocals you hear from a rapper. He is singing like a skilled R&B singer. In what is the most soulful and moti vating track on the album, the chorus repeats “Swang on, Swang on,” until about two minutes in. The song’s message and sound give an unexpected tone that carries throughout the album. Still, supple rapping is JID’s greatest trait. Many songs on the album are a combination of R&B and con scious rap. A risky move that pays off for most songs. For example, “Can’t Make You Change” featuring Ari Len nox, has three different flows and verses from JID, yet Len nox has almost as much time on the track. It’s a combina tion that works really well for the “Dreamville” duo. However, on “Stars” featuring Yaslin, the combi nation feels a little wonky, and JID’s high-pitched vocals clash with the beat. “Stars” may be the only skippable song on the entire project. Even though that song isn’t particularly bad, the qual ity doesn’t measure up to the rest. It’s packed with intro spective remarks about his journey and where he hopes to end up. Everything that made his previous work so exciting and unique has been the growth and improvement in this album. JID has always had the ability to “out rap” most, if not all his peers. Which makes him, for most, a great rapper. Now, it seems he can combine his skills and talk about more than just what he excels at. He details the worst parts of the world, himself and ties that back to self-improvement and hope in “The Forever Story”. Making him a great artist and undeniably one of the best rappers in the world.

Britney Spears’ 22-minute conservatorship clip has her mother feeling ‘hopeless’

Courtesy of Tribune News Service Supporters of Britney Spears rally as a hearing on the singer’s conservatorship case takes place at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse in Los Angeles on June 23, 2021.

Spears recalled missing out on parties and drinks with friends and having no access to her own money and car keys. While the “Circus” singer mentioned her father, Jamie Spears, numerous times throughout the video, she said it was her mother’s idea to place her under a conservatorship and she “actually helped him follow through and made it all happen.” She also called out her mother for sidestepping report ers’ questions about her condition and failing to secure legal aid. “It was always like, ‘I don’t know what to say,’ ‘I just don’t want to say the wrong thing,’ ‘We’re praying for her,’”

Lynne Spears wants a word in private with daughter Britney Spears after the pop superstar further broke her silence about the conservatorship that ruled her life for nearly 14 years. On Sunday, Britney Spears shed more light on her long-running conser vatorship, which ended in November, and shared disturbing details about experiences that left her feeling “vic timized” and “traumatized.” In a 22-minute voice memo origi nally posted as an audio-only video on her official YouTube page, Spears spoke about feeling controlled by her father and how her mother — and specifically her complacency — contributed to her distress.“You also gotta understand, it’s like, you know, 15 years of touring and

doing shows, and I’m 30 years old under my dad’s rules,” the star alleged in the clip, which has since been deleted but can be easily found on YouTube. “And all of this is going on and my mom’s witnessing this and my brother’s wit nessing and my friends are witnessing it, and they all go along with it.”

“ Therefore, my beloved brethren, be stead fast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” (1 Co.15:58 NKJ) Just about everything in this life is tempo rary. Yet, most people work very hard to have a pleasant few years in their lifetime. I would like to remind the true Christians that God is offering us an eternity of bless ing as we serve him and his purposes now. 1InCo.15 the Apostle Paul is reminding these believers of Christ’s resurrection and how true and real it was. He continues by emphasizing the sure promise of God that we are going to share in that resurrec tion one day. We will have a new, eternal body like Jesus has now. As we help in the work of God, furthering his kingdom; demonstrating the love of God in blessing and serving others; as you and I get involved with helping missionary work, even going to help in short term mission trips or providing finances for others to go, we are laying up treasure in heaven “where moths cannot corrupt and thieves cannot Actually, steal.”this kingdom of God, with forgive ness of all our sins and a new relationship with God as our Father, is offered to all mankind. If you have never opened your heart to Christ, asking for a clean heart and a new life; the door is open wide for you to come. You will not be turned away. Then you too can begin to live for the eternal: laying up treasure in Heaven. I en courage all to consider these words, no matter your age, and choose the best and most satisfying life. It is a life following Christ as your Lord, and going for God’s best in eternity. It is a great and sure future!

ETERNITY IN MIND!

Britney said. “I feel like she could’ve gotten me a lawyer. In literally two seconds, my friend helped me get one in the end.”Spears’ long video was rife with disturbing claims against family mem bers, whom she’d like to “spit in their f— faces.” But Lynne Spears said she wants to work out the accusations in private. After Britney’s original YouTube video posted, her mother shared a throwback photo of her with her daugh ter on Instagram. The Sunday photo seemed to respond to the singer’s bomb shell allegations.“Britney, your whole life I have tried my best to support your dreams and wishes! And also, I have tried my best to help you out of hardships! I have never and will never turn my back on you!,” Lynne captioned her post. She continued: “Your rejections to the countless times I have flown out and calls make me feel hopeless! I have tried everything. I love you so much, but this talk is for you and me only, eye to eye, in private.” In July, the pop musician alleged that her mother shunned and exploited her while pretending to be an upstand ing parent.“Yoma did you also let people know that’s one of the only times you [texted] me back?” Britney Spears wrote on Instagram. “Play the respon sible perfect parent and go to church in Louisiana ... it’s a joke !!! You all ruined it for me ... I don’t ever remember get ting a text from you !!!” Last week Spears made a trium phant return to music with “Hold Me Closer,” a new duet with Elton John that marked her first song in six years and a comeback her fans adored.
