The OSU women’s golf team got its fall season off to a good start with a top three finish at the Carmel Cup. The tournament oc curred at the Pebble Beach Golf Links in California, a course that’s been used for various PGA Tour events, including seven majors. The course played as tough as ex pected, with only seven of 48 players finishing the weekend under Stanford’spar. Rose Zhang, the world No. 1 ranked wom en’s amateur, won the indi vidual competition in style. She finished at 13-under and broke the course record with a second round 63. The Cowgirls finished third and had three players in the top ten of the individual tournament. Madison Hin son-Tolchard and Han-Hsuan Yu led the way, finishing at 1-under in a tie for sixth place.During an eventful final round for the Cowgirls, Yu made a hole-in-one at the par-3 seventh hole, Hailey Jones moved up eight spots and freshman Thitaporn Saithip moved up five spots. Jones was 3-under Sunday, finishing in 11th place. Saithip’s 2-under final round was enough to grab a top 10 in her first collegiate tournament. Freshman team mate Cecilie Leth-Nissen finished her first tournament 19-over.Rina Tatematsu round ed out the Cowgirl lineup, finishing at 18-over. Tatemat su was unable to bounce back from a first round 82. File Photo Han-Hsuan Yu made a hole-in-one at the Carmel Cup at the Pebble Beach Golf Links in California on Sunday.
On Monday afternoon, OSU football coach Mike Gundy held his second media luncheon of the 2022 season. Here are some key points from Gundy’s press conference ahead of Saturday’s home game against Arizona State. Sun Devils bring NFL schemes: Marvin Lewis, Brian Bil lick and Herm Edwards. Three notable names with a surplus of NFL experience. Lewis coached the Cincinnati Bengals for 16 seasons. Bil lick served as head coach of the Baltimore Ravens for nine seasons and led the Minnesota Vikings’ offense. Edwards had stints as head coach of the New York Jets and the Kansas City Chiefs. With such a handful of experience at the next level, Gundy and his staff are expect ing a new look to the Sun Dev ils’ in-game dynamics come Saturday.“Special teams wise they were completely different last year than they were Thursday night,” Gundy said. “So, (they were) really vanilla against Northern Arizona to show anything and be considerably different (this Saturday).”
Junior linebackers Mason Cobb and Xavier Benson made their first career starts in this past Thursday’s season opener against Central Michigan. Se nior linebacker Lamont Bishop filtered in as the game pro gressed, taking in a significant amount of snaps as well. As expected in a debut, there were missed assignments, spotty tackling and blown coverages.
The key to containing an offense styled as Arizona State’s is containing and shut ting down the quarterback.

ASU quarterback Emory Jones, a Florida transfer, provides mobility for the Sun Devils. Gundy still expects a significantly different offensive scheme from the Sun Devils, knowing with the plethora of experience Edwards, Billick, and Lewis provide, they are bound to have some twists and turns come “TheySaturday.mighthave some changes based on what’s hap pened,” Gundy said. “Then maybe they’re not (so different offensively). We won’t know that so we kind of have to pre pare for both.” Cobb, Benson, Bishop still adjusting to roles: In 2021, OSU employed maturity at the linebacker posi tion. Two fifth-year seniors, both of which ranked top 10 in the Big 12 in tackles with one of them being the conference leader, providing a veteran presence to an already expe rienced defense. This season, Malcolm Rodriguez and Devin Harper are in the NFL, shed ding light to a new duo of start ers at the linebacker spot.

The Cowgirls are no longerOSUundefeated.(3-1-1)fell to Miami (3-0-2) on the road in Coral Gables, Florida, giving the Cowgirls their first loss of the 2022 campaign. Here are three takeaways from OSU’s 2-1 loss to the Hurri cane on Sunday after noon. Offensive woes: When OSU coach Colin Carmi chael spoke post-match against Tulsa a week ago, he reiterated his surplus of confidence in his offense in spite of just a 1-0 victory. He added how he wasn’t by any means worried about his team’s shaky offensive performance against the Golden Hurricane.Fastforward two matches later, count ing Tulsa, the Cowgirls recorded just two goals during a three-match span following a 2-1 loss to Miami on Sun day afternoon. Both of those have come on own-goals by the oppo nent. While Carmichael has stated multiple times how soccer is a sport of ebbs and flows, the Cowgirls offensive struggles are becom ing present at one of the more inopportune times, as OSU is begin ning to come across the most difficult portion of its non-conference slate heading into Big 12 play. Nytes not per fect: Heading into Sunday afternoon’s match against Miami, freshman goalkeeper Jordy Nytes allowed just one goal through four matches. Nytes had her first true test as the Cowgirls’ start ing goalkeeper this past Thursday in a 0-0 draw at Florida Atlantic where the Owls outshot OSU 9-6.OnSunday, the bubble finally popped, and a match full of OSU defensive break downs wasn’t bailed out by Nytes’ in-game heroics. The Hurricane recorded seven shots on the Cowgirls, two of which were cashed in for goals en route to a 2-1 loss in Coral Gables for OSU. Missed opportu nities: Throughout the early portion of the 2022 season, Carmi chael has voiced his disdain for the handful of missed opportunities the Cowgirls have faced offensively. Yet, they hadn’t really come back to haunt them until Sunday. In a match where the Cowgirls outshot Miami 10-7 and con trolled the second half time of possession, they still fell short by one score, only recording one goal on the day. OSU senior midfielder Grace Yochum was once again shut down, and a surplus of breakaway opportunities for the Cowgirl forwards were cut short by spur of the moment turn overs or the inability to produce a shot in oneon-one

I mean, he’s in what, year five, something like that? So you saw what a mature player can do. Good to have him back out there.” Johnson said he relished playing after sitting out in 2021. Sitting, though, is probably not a fair term for what Johnson did after being told he could not play foot ball last“Theyear.biggest thing for Bray don is that he took that year and focused,” OSU offensive coordina tor Kasey Dunn said. “He took that missed year and just kind of turned it into a desire to be the best player he could possibly be. So he’s been absolutely tunnel vision on trying to be a great player.” While he was injured, John son put in plenty of work with his teammates. He also worked through a lot personally. “Last year was a huge, huge experience for me,” Johnson said. “Just in the fact that I got to do a lot of self-realizations, you know, got to be with myself a lot. I put together a plan, understood what I had to do and I got back here by God’s will, so I’m just super blessedBrennanman.” Presley, OSU’s junior slot receiver who was second on the team with eight catches and 83 yards, watched Johnson work though injury in 2021. “I think the receiver group as a collective is happy to see him do good because we know that’s what he’s been working for,” Presley said. Sanders targeted Johnson a team-high 10 times. Without wideout Blaine Green, who suf fered a wrist injury in fall camp, and receiver Jaden Bray who is week-to-week, Sanders could lean on Johnson more as the Cowboys work through the early part of their schedule.“(Johnson) really just put his head down and (got on the) grind,” Sanders said. “It’s finally his chance to, you know, display what he’s got. Today we got to see that.” Jaiden Daughty Wide receiver Braydon Johnson recorded a career-high of 133 reception yards and a touchdown against Central Michigan on Thursday night. from 1 Daniel Allen Staff Reporter

College Football Playoff expansion: For quite some time, playoff expansion has been practically inevitable. It finally came into fruition a week ago. On Friday, the College Football Playoff announced an expansion from four to 12 teams by the start of the 2026 season. While social media had its fair share of mixed emotions from college football fans, reporters and analysts, Gundy voiced his disdain for the playoff expansion“MoneyMonday.took over,” Gundy said. “Everybody said, ‘No no no’, and then somebody said (everyone is) missing out on $450 million. Then everybody said, ‘Yes yes yes’. That’s what happened. It’s real clear cut.”Gundy and others believe it’s a money move, not in any way being used to better the landscape of college football. He be lieves once the playoff ex pansion comes into effect, the current state of college football will completely shift. “I don’t think college football was broke so I’m not sure why we’re try ing to fix it,” Gundy said. “Well I know why we’re trying to fix it, it’s because we’re talking about $450 million divided by 65 schools.”
ETERNITY IN MIND!
“ Therefore, my beloved brethren, be stead fast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” (1 Co.15:58 NKJ) Just about everything in this life is tempo rary. Yet, most people work very hard to have a pleasant few years in their lifetime. I would like to remind the true Christians that God is offering us an eternity of bless ing as we serve him and his purposes now. 1InCo.15 the Apostle Paul is reminding these believers of Christ’s resurrection and how true and real it was. He continues by emphasizing the sure promise of God that we are going to share in that resurrec tion one day. We will have a new, eternal body like Jesus has now. As we help in the work of God, furthering his kingdom; demonstrating the love of God in blessing and serving others; as you and I get involved with helping missionary work, even going to help in short term mission trips or providing finances for others to go, we are laying up treasure in heaven “where moths cannot corrupt and thieves cannot Actually, steal.”this kingdom of God, with forgive ness of all our sins and a new relationship with God as our Father, is offered to all mankind. If you have never opened your heart to Christ, asking for a clean heart and a new life; the door is open wide for you to come. You will not be turned away. Then you too can begin to live for the eternal: laying up treasure in Heaven. I en courage all to consider these words, no matter your age, and choose the best and most satisfying life. It is a life following Christ as your Lord, and going for God’s best in eternity. It is a great and sure future!
Mackenzie Janish Cowboy coach Mike Gundy reaffirmed his evaluation of an “average” defensive performance in Thursday’s win over Central Michigan.
