Quarterback Spencer Sanders (right) torched the Central Michi gan defense for six touchdowns.
Going into the 2022 season, many Cowboys fans were wondering how the deep passing attack would hold up after the departure of wide receiver Tay Martin. Well, with just under a minute left in the first quarter of OSU’s week one matchup against Cen tral Michigan, quarter back Spencer Sanders sought to answer those questions. On the first play of the drive, Sanders dropped a dime over the shoulder of fifth year senior Braydon Johnson, who secured the catch just before the deep safety could close in on him. After back-toback punts, this play started the momentum for the Cowboys’ of fense and for Sanders, who scored six total touchdowns in a highscoring win over the Chippewas.

Central Michi gan head coach Jim McElwain on the Cowboys: “First off, that’s a hell of a football team we played. They’re going to be in the national picture as the season goes on and I can easily see them winning this league. They’ve got a complete team and they’ve got a quarterback that can make plays not only throwing the football, but obviously with his feet and we knew that going in.” McElwain on his message to his team following the loss: “They fought through it. When (OSU) scored 30 in a row, I probably was more worried about that damn horse cramping up running around the endzone there. I really like our football team. We’re going to win a lot of games and those kids are going to learn from this video and we’re going to get a little bit better.”

“We did a lot of stuff better, we just have to get back to the basics and the funda mentals and getting our technique down, just the little things. Like coach says every day, we got to get a little bit better every day and get the knicks and knacks handled and get better, that’s the Richardsongoal.”threw for 424 passing yards alongside four touch downs and one inter ception in the game. In a battle with a combined 102 points scored, the OSU Cow boys outlasted the Central Michigan Chippewas with a final score of 58-44 in Stillwater on Thursday. Here’s the report card on the first game of the 2022-23 campaign. OSU offensive line: A The OSU offen sive line did a great job in the season opener. It gave quarterback Spencer Sanders clean pockets to find an open target, and opened up a decent run game for whichever half back was in the game. The frontlines held up decently well with 125 rushing yards on 32 attempts with five tackles for loss. OSU Receiving Game:SomeA+ new faces and some returning faces in the OSU receiver room. The pigskin was definitely shared among the receiv ers — as senior receiver Braydon Johnson led the way with 133 receiving yards and a touchdown. Brennan Presley had 83

The OSU Cow boys defeated the Cen tral Michigan Chippe was 58-44 on Thursday night. It was an offen sive contest, but there was some good defense played at times. OSU Special Teams: A The highlight of the game had to of been punter Tom Hutton bombing a kick to the one yard line leading to the defense forcing a safety. Plays like that are what shift momentum of the game, and that’s what any coach wants out of their special teams unit. Overall, the kicking and punting was on point, no missed kicks, and no big returns. The one thing preventing the big “A+” grade is the blocked punt in the fourth quarter.
Jaiden Daughty Freshman running back Ollie Gordon (left) earned several carries in his Cowboy debut. 1
OSU Secondary: F The eyesore for anyone who watched the game was definitely the secondary. The game started off well for them only allowing one touchdown through the air, but it all fell apart in the second half. OSU watched Central Michigan quarterback Daniel Rich ardson throw for 424 yards and four touchdowns. For a secondary to be successful they need to attack the football without committing costly penalties, and the OSU defense was no stranger to hold ing or pass interference in the game. Tackling was also a massive issue, most of them leading to costly touchdowns.
receiving yards. John Paul Rich ardson the first touchdown of the year on a quick in route which was taken all the way to the pylon. Richardson had himself a day with four receptions 73 yards and a touchdown. OSU running game: B In the first quarter, OSU’s run game started off rough with Domi nic Richardson not really finding any creases, which led to the Cowboys leaning on the dual threat abilities of quarterback Sanders. He rushed for 57 yards on 11 carries for two touchdowns. As the game went along OSU tried out different running backs to try to get the running game going. Jaden Nixon, Zach Middleton, and Ollie Gordon each earned their respective share of touch es. But in the end, Richardson found ways to burst the key big chunk runs to close out the long drives with nine car ries for 61 yards and one touchdown. Overall the OSU run game finished with 125 yards on 32 touches with four touchdowns. Spencer Sanders: A+ Is there a better way for a quar terback to start the season? Sanders finished the 2021 season with an amaz ing performance in the Fiesta Bowl, and now he started the 2022 season with a bang against Central Michigan. He passed for a whopping 406 yards, ran for 57 more, threw four touchdown and ran for two touchdowns without any turnovers/ There’s not much more coach Mike Gundy could have asked from his man under center. The only question left to ask is if he can stay consistent for the rest of the season.

OSU Defensive Line and Line backers: B There were definitely positives and negatives in defensive trenches for Oklahoma State. They started off the game letting up big runs leading to touchdown drives, but started to stiffen up as the game went along. The pres sure from the OSU defensive line is definitely what the difference was in the final box score. The pressures, tackles, and sacks from Colin Oliver, Tyler Lacy, and Mason Cobb kept the defense opportunistic.

Jana also said the Department of Physics at OSU played a big role in his career. Jana furthered collaboration with colleges at OSU and begun supervising and mentoring several OSU graduate students, one being Vishnu P.K. “The guidance provided by Dr. Babu and several advanced courses of fered by the department prepared me to participate in research at an early stage of my graduate study,” P.K. said in an OSU press release. “I was fortunate to have good support from my senior col leagues; they guided and collaborated with me on several research projects. Dr. Jana and I have collaborated on 10 research articles published in wellknown peer-reviewed journals, includ ing the current article.” Research regarding DM is con tinuing, and Jana said this research is about understanding the universe’s energy budget, which DM constitutes one-fourth of.
Sudip Jana, an OSU alumnus, and Vishnu P.K., a current doctoral student recently found their work published in Physics Review Letters. Jana and P.K. collaborated with the Department of Physics at the Uni versity of Basel in Switzerland to focus on a novel dark matter (DM) model with favorable implications for defining the presently unrecognized component of the universe.“TheDM mass is predicted to be very close to the mass of the leptons, which can potentially be identified from DM annihilation into gamma-rays,” Jana said in an OSU press release. “We show that the phenomenon of neutrino oscillations is inherently connected to the observed relic abundance of DM. New physics involved in our framework lies at or below the electrowear scale, making it testable at upcoming collid ers, beam-dump experiments, and future sub-GeV gamma-ray telescopes. This will greatly interest the particle and astroparticle physics community.”

Marvel fatigue: Start of the decline?
“Marvel is Marvel,” Sartain said. “It is like “Star Wars” to me. I do not really care what it is about because of what it is.” The name of Marvel alone seems to do the trick for some lately, but the real question is just how long that will continue to be the case. With the growing concern of quantity over quality becoming increasingly prominent, it is be coming evident that too much of a good thing can be bad. The future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be an interesting set of events to watch unfold as we will see if Marvel will continue to stand the test of time or dwindle from the spotlight.

Marvel Studios changed the movie landscape forever in 2008 with the start of their Marvel Cine matic Universe that has spanned 14 years and 36 proj ects. Following COVID-19 and the lack of projects Marvel was able to release, the streaming service, Disney +, acted as a means to allow Marvel to now create TV series for the universe. This pivotal step is where Marvel may have made their largest flaw and began the gradual decline of this Marvel renaissance, we have been living in. On Jan. 15, 2021, Marvel’s Phase four began with the inaugural TV series, “WandaVision,” which has since been succeeded by eight TV shows and six films in the span of a year. In the past it has taken on average two to three years to make it through an entire phase for Marvel with the longest having about 25 hours of content over the span of three years. Phase four already eclipsed the 36-hour mark in one year due to the addition of these Disney+ series according to The Direct. This drastic increase in the amount of content brings up the question: is it getting old? As someone who has adored the MCU as I have grown up and consider myself to be invested in the franchise, I have failed to force myself to watch the previous two series “Ms. Marvel” and “She-Hulk” due to how tedious it is becoming. One of the charms of the MCU has always been the continuity and connectivity between all the projects, yet now that is becoming an issue because if you miss one of the numerous shows, you will likely be behind in some facet with future projects. I do not think that it is a reach to state that the quality of the franchise has been slowly declining as the focus seems to be more on cranking out as many projects as possible. JJ Sartain, a mechanical engineering student at OSU, shared similar views on the subject. “They are certainly focused on quantity. Some of the quality is not the best, but I think it is more of the topics they are choosing such as ‘Ms. Marvel,” he said. Due to the more recent introduction of “Ms. Marvel”” as a comic character, it is reasonable to not be as interested in a project about her, but that seems to be the route Marvel prefers to take recently.
