The Snow Battle of Stillwater By Noah Weber

Once the opening charge concluded, each team returned to their sides, reloaded with snowballs, and once again sprinted into the neutral ground that separated the two teams trying to hit members of the enemy team with as many snowballs as they possibly could. Following the charge, students once again returned to their home sides with smiles on their faces and bodies covered with snow. These charges continued for the next hour before most students decided that their days of fighting were over as the team on the north side of Library Lawn had pushed the team on the south side all the way back to the second patch of grass, signifying a win for the northern team as most of the members of the southern team had deserted their comrades. The Snow Battle of Stillwater is an event that will be remembered by all in attendance as most students used this event as a way to escape their dorm rooms after 10 days of frigid temperatures before temperatures finally rose above freezing on the following day.

3 o’clock hit and Oklahoma State’s alma mater sounded from the belltower atop of Edmon Low Library, alerting all students in attendance that the battle was going to begin soon. Barstool Pokes, a studentrun Twitter and Instagram account, let all 31 thousand of their collective followers know that there would be a snowball fight happening on Library Lawn at 3 p.m. on February 18. Over 300 OSU students arrived at Library Lawn in their warmest winter gear with their throwing arms ready for what was about to be an icy warzone. Once the alma mater tune concluded, all students in attendance knew that it was time to form their snowballs, take cover behind their forts and get ready for what was going to be an all-out war for the next hour. The battle started with students from either side of Library Lawn charging each other with snowballs in either hand with their bodies ready for the impact of fast-moving, hostile snowballs that would soon be coming from the enemy team. Strong Start Cowboys sweep Wichita State with 14-6 victory

By Jacob Sturm Good things come in threes. In Oklahoma State baseball’s 14-6 victory against Wichita State, the Cowboys tallied hitafter-hit. In total, OSU strung together 17 hits while catching its stride in the all-around per-

formance. Six Cowboys produced multi-hit games, as getting runners on base developed into a recurring theme. Brock Mathis, Hueston Morrill and Christian EncarnacionStrand each delivered three hits. Max Hewitt pinch hit, adding a two-run homerun in the eighth inning to cap the scoring.

EncarnacionStrand hit a three-run homerun over the left center field wall in the seventh, eradicating any chance of pressure the OSU bullpen could face. OSU coach Josh Holliday said Encarnacion-Strand gives the lineup depth, making the team dangerous. “He saw a couple of nice swings on some

doubles, and then he got a ball late in the game that he hit out that he connected very squarely on,” Holliday said. “… You’ve got to have real power to hit the ball out like that.” Bryce Osmond made the start and played well, producing 79 pitches in four innings of work. When Holliday determined his

replacement, the Cowboys controlled a 5-2 lead and needed it. After the Cowboys scored two more runs from a Caeden Trenkle double, Wichita State (0-2) closed the gap in the fifth, scoring four runs off Roman Phansalkar in the frame with two singles and a fielder’s choice. OSU (2-0) sent freshman pitcher Trevor Martin to the mound in relief, stopping the bleeding to maintain the lead. He tossed three hitless innings to earn the win. “Probably the biggest transition in that game was when Trevor Martin came out of the bullpen and put a stop to that inning,” Holliday said. That put the pressure back on the Cowboys batters. It didn’t last long. The Cowboys scored at least two runs in five consecutive innings, starting with a 5-run fourth inning. “A lot of guys swung the bat well,” Holliday said. “Quality at-bats up and down the lineup. It’s a good outing. Good victory by our team.” sports.ed@ocolly.com
