Biden Wins Election Former VP to rejoin White House as 46th president Ryan Novozinsky Democrat and former Vice President Joe Biden defeated current President Donald Trump to become the 46th president of the United States on Saturday, according to the Associated Press.

Biden’s victory officially came when he crossed 270 votes with a projected win in Pennsylvania. As of 11 a.m. on Saturday, Biden has 290 electoral votes compared to Trump’s 214, according to the AP. The victory comes after days of confusion with mail-in ballots and delayed results.

Biden, 77, comes into the role of U.S. president with experience. He’s served in government for 49 years and served as former President Barack Obama’s vice president from 2008-2016. In this election, he received a record 74,857,880 votes, more than any other candidate in history.

Time to recover OSU heads into a much-needed bye week

The Big 12 title hopes for Oklahoma State are still alive after a come from behind victory at Kansas State on Saturday. After a gutsy road win, OSU will get a bye week to get healthy before Bedlam.

The Cowboys were without some key players on both sides of the ball and had several guys play that didn’t practice all week. When you add in that a right ankle injury hobbled offensive lineman Teven File photo Jenkins, there was a lot going against them.

In a game that could have been easy to lose, OSU found a way to win.

“I told the team I was proud of them, they had their backs against the wall and they found a way to win on the road,” coach Mike Gundy said. “That was a good win for our team. I’m looking forward to a week off and we can get a little recovery with our guys.”

The bye week is coming at the perfect time for the Cowboys, as guys such as Tylan Wallace, Chuba Hubbard, LD Brown, Kolby Harvell-Peel and Tre Sterling are dealing with injuries and can use this time to get healthy before an important stretch to finish out the regular season.

COVID-19 update

By Ryan Boyce On Sunday, the Oklahoma State Department of Health’s COVID-19 dashboard reported 363 active cases in Payne County with 257 coming from Stillwater.

No additional deaths were reported from yesterday.

These new numbers represent a spike in active cases from last week. In Payne County, the reported active cases have more than doubled since Oct. 29th and on Nov. 5th, there was a death reported in the 50-64 age range.

At the state level, the dashboard reported an increase in active cases to a new total of 19,790 with an additional 9 deaths

from yesterday. This brings the death count over the course of the pandemic to 1,438 in Oklahoma.

The University Dashboard reported 217 cases as of Wednesday, Nov. 4th. That number is just short of triple the number of reported active cases the previous Wednesday. Also, UHS testing on campus reported an increase to a 12% positivity rate this week, compared to last week’s 4%.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19 and promote public health, the CDC website recommends frequent handwashing, social distancing of at least six feet, and the use of masks. According to the CDC website, COVID-19 can spread even before symptoms show up, so caution is always advised.

SGA Holds its first Pride Week

By Ellen Slater Oklahoma State University’s Student Government Association is hosting its first annual Pride Week.

There are a variety of events planned throughout the week, including a Pride Week Parade where the Stillwater and OSU community were welcome to drive or walk down Hester Street in celebration.

Goodie bags including resources for LGBTQ+ students, mini pride flags, a letter from the SGA president and were passed out to those in attendance.

Hester Street was decorated with rainbow balloons and streamers as cars and people made their way down the street.

Cars, motorcycles, bikes and even campus buses honked and waved as they drove through the event.

Other events going on this week include a Student Panel, Faculty Panel, Safe Zone Training and a Trivia Night. Due to the ongoingpandemic, the parade is the only in-person event for SGA’s Pride Week. The rest of the events are scheduled

to be held on Zoom. If someone who wishes to attend the events missed it, the Zooms

will be posted on SGA’s Instagram page.

Jadyn Powell, the Director of the Multicultural Affairs Committee for the Student Government Association has been wanting to do something for the LGBTQ+ community on campus since there has never been an official support statement from

the university regarding the matter.

“We wanted to think about what we could do for underserved students on campus,” Powell said. “And the biggest thing we want them to know is that we love and celebrate them.”

Powell said they think that future students coming into Oklahoma State will see that the university has taken initiative, and knowing that this exists will help make OSU a better school.

Students will feel support

before they even begin their OSU careers.

The Student Government Association’s pride week is something that will happen every year as the organization is writing it into its bylaws, according to a statement that Jaden Kasitz made to the attendees of the event.

Adam Bronson, who is the Student Health Representative of SGA and helped pull off the event, thinks that it is important to put on the parade since a lot of pride events that were supposed to happen throughout the country this summer were canceled due to the pandemic and that these students still deserve to be celebrated.

The purpose of the week is not only a celebration but to share information and resources, Bronson.

Bye Week...

Being without Wallace and mostly without Hubbard was difficult to overcome, and the offensive line shakeups aren’t making things any easier. The offense was able to figure things out in the second half, and the defense did a great job at limiting the damage until it did figure it out.

The defense has been a bright spot since Game 1, and it is showing every week it is a unit that deserves respect.

“With our defense, we’re never out of it,” receiver Dillon Stoner said. “They’ve kept us in every game we’ve played so far.”

The Cowboy defense is No. 1 in the nation at stopping third-down conversions, and it has given up the second-fewest yards in the Big 12. Having a lockdown defense is something that OSU isn’t used to having, but it does this year.

“They always believe they’re gonna make the play, which when you have a defense like that you got a chance,” defensive coordinator Jim Knowles said.

Another thing that should be encouraging for Cowboy fans is quarterback Spencer Sanders didn’t turn the ball over at all yesterday after having three turnovers against Texas last weekend. OSU is 63-7 since 2008 when it wins the turnover battle, so there’s something to be said about ball security.

As OSU heads into the bye week, the biggest priority is health. It’s crucial that it gets rested and recovers for what will be a four-week sprint to a Big 12 title game. In that fourgame stretch, which includes OU, Texas Tech, TCU and Baylor, the Cowboys need some more stability on the offensive line and this week off should help. Although the win against Kansas State may have been ugly, given the circumstances, it was an important win that shows how resilient they are and just how much they want that Big 12 title.

“This win proves that our culture and team chemistry is strong,” Gundy said. “In my 31 years of coaching and 16 as head coach, you don’t win a game like this if your culture and team chemistry is not strong.” sports.ed@ocolly.com

Cowgirls close out fall season with three individual titles

Nearly six months ago, Oklahoma State University was scheduled to host the Big 12 Women’s Tennis Championships.

Thanks to a global pandemic, many exciting plans, including hosting the NCAA championships at the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center as well as the conference finals, were quickly crushed.

However, the OSU Cowgirls were able to play a full three day Big 12 Fall Classic tournament this weekend in Stillwater.

“I think the most important thing for us was being able to host this event,” women’s tennis coach Chris Young said. “We obviously wanted to host the NCAA championships in the spring but hosting a tournament with the majority of the Big 12 schools is a great consolation.”

This weekend’s tournament was also the first of its kind.

“Normally, the

ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Fall Championships are this weekend, so all the teams could play as many matches as possible leading up to the event, and then this serves as a true championship type format,” Young said.

OSU was able to claim three individual titles on the weekend. The doubles pair of Bunyawi Thamchaiwat and Ayumi Miyamoto defeated Baylor’s Alicia Herrero Linana and Mel Krywoj in a one-set format 6-2. On the singles side, sophomore Alana Wolfberg was victorious over her teammate Thamchaiwat in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 to claim the flight one title.

In an individual tournament, two teammates facing others in a highstakes match is always a possibility.

“It’s a difficult situation to play your teammate,” Wolfberg said. “I’m proud that it was two OSU girls in the finals. It is never a good situation to play a teammate, but you just do

what you normally do.”

Wolfberg stuck to her routine of self-encouragement throughout the match.

“I try not to lose focus at all, Wolfberg said. I don’t look around to see all the supporters and coaches, I just stay where I need to be and that helps me a lot. The more I talk to myself, the more locked in I am,” Wolfberg said.

In the singles flight two bracket, sophomore Dariya Detkovskaya of Kazakhstan swept Baylor’s Angelina Shakhraichuk 7-5, 6-2.

Young and the Cowgirls pitched the idea of a fall tournament to fellow Big 12 coaches and quickly arrived at a resolution.

Unfortunately, West Virginia and Texas were unable to make the trip because, according to Young, the Big 12 has restricted fall tennis travel to destinations within driving distance.

Despite not being able to com-

pete with two Big 12 schools, the tournament gave Young and his squad an opportunity to see other Big 12 teams and gauge levels of competition.

“This tournament gave us a really great idea of what it takes to win a Big 12 championship,” Young said. “We showed this weekend that we are as strong as any team in the conference so if we continue to improve, we have an opportunity to accomplish some great goals.”

Outside of what he saw on the court, Young said he was extremely proud of the way his team handled the COVID-19 protocols. The Cowgirls finished the fall season without a positive COVID-19 case.

Even after finishing a successful fall season, more uncertainty surrounds the spring season for the Cowgirls. A schedule is still a work in progress.

3 stars of the game: OSU vs. Kansas State

The No. 14 ranked Cowboys had a bit of a rough start against the Kansas State Wildcats but a second-half comeback spurred by LD Brown and the Cowboy defense gave the Cowboys a 20-18 win. Here are three of the standout players from the Cowboy win in Manhattan.

First star: LD

Brown After the Oklahoma State offense was shut out in the first half, LD Brown and the Cowboy rushing attack threw the first punch in the second half and set the tone for the rest of the game.

Brown rushed for 110 yards on just 15 carries and his 50-yard run in the third quarter set up OSU’s first touchdown of the game and cut the Wildcats’ lead to

just two points. On the next drive, Brown had a 23-yard run on the second play of the drive in which OSU kicked a field goal and took its first lead of the game.

In a game in which OSU star running back Chuba Hubbard was hurt, Brown stepped up and was making plays left and right for the Cowboys.

Ben Hutchens The Oklahoma State football team closed out with a 20-18 comeback victory on Saturday. Here’s how the Cowboys graded out.

Passing Offense: D+ OSU’s passing the offense was seemingly behind the eight ball from the start of the day. The Cowboys leading receiver, Tylan Wallace, suffered an injury in practice and only played one special teams snap in the game. OSU quarterback Spencer Sanders completed 14-of-23 passes but for only 108 yards, a far cry from the 400 passing yards he had last week. There were no touchdowns through the air, but Sanders was also turnover-free.

Rushing offense: B+ Cowboy running backs seemingly spent more time limping to the sideline than they did running past Wild-

cat defenders. Chuba Hubbard only carried the ball six times, so the load was shouldered by LD Brown. Brown notched another strong performance, toting the rock 15 times for 110 yards.

The most important rushing play of the game was made by freshman wide receiver Brennan Presley. The Cowboys were down nine points midway through the third quarter. Sanders handed the ball to Presley on a jet sweep and Presley turned on the jets to turn the corner for a 9-yard touchdown.

Defense: A In the post-game report card, the OSU defense is what every parent hopes their student is like. The defense is what won OSU the game this week…again.

The Wildcats were limited to just 18 points. The Cowboy defense made the biggest play of the game: an 85-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown. The Wildcats still had 370 total yards, (143 passing and 227 rushing) but many of those yards came on two chunk plays. The OSU defense forced two turnovers

and played good enough red zone defense to save the day.

Special teams: B+ A box score will show a near-perfect day on special teams for the Cowboys, which came through big time for the Cowboys on a day when points were tough to come by. Kicker Alex Hale went 2 of 2 on field goals and 2 of 2 on extra points. A box score will not show the near cardiac arrest every single OSU fan sitting at home watching the game went through when OSU receiver Dillon Stoner muffed a punt before immediately jumping back on top of it.

Items being thrown on the field: A+ Some viewed it simply as passionate fans letting referees know their feelings, others viewed as a petty move by angry students last week. right in Jason Taylor II’s hands. and he took it 85 yards for the touchdown. This play by Antwine was the biggest defensive play of the game and gave the Cowboys an eight-point lead, which helped seal the win.

Third star: Brennan Presley After five

straight games of not seeing much Brennan Presley in the OSU offense, the true freshman scored a 9-yard end around touchdown in the third quarter and trimmed the Wildcats’ lead to two points. After Presley’s touchdown, the Cowboys scored 10 straight points and
