BE DEFINITE!

It has been a number of years ago that the Lord Jesus challenged me to be definite in making myself available to him. I was attending church regularly. My wife and I were giving to the work of God. We were not doing anything that would be considered wrong in the eyes of God. I thought I was available to Christ. As I prayed about this, I felt the Lord wanted me to spend more consistent time with him. I decided to get up each morning and spend an hour in prayer and in the Bible. The first morning when I knelt at the living room couch, I went to sleep. What a commitment! However, I did not give up. The next morning with my Bible in hand, I walked back and forth across the living room praising, praying and reading the Bible. I was being definite, not perfect, but definite.

King David said, “My heart says of you (God), ‘Seek his Face! Your face, Lord, I will seek.’ (Ps.27:8) David was a man after God’s own heart. He certainly was not perfect, but one who sought after and followed God. Being definite with God has such great reward. He is the Good Shepherd that will faithfully lead our lives into the best and lasting way. As the Lord challenges our lives in various areas of obedience and service, It is so important to be definite; to be clear, to be wholehearted. Go all the way, and do that thing(s) you are challenged to do. Don’t compromise! Possibly God is challenging you about a definite time in prayer and in scripture. Maybe it is in giving; not just occasionally, but often and consistently Maybe it is Christian service; helping is mission work; worthwhile projects. Go for it! Be definite. You will find God definite, and there will be lasting fruit and satisfaction.

Boynton said the break has positives and negatives. “May not be bad to not have to sit around on a two-game losing streak,” Boynton said. “But we got guys banged up to. Defensive troubles result in Cowgirls’ third straight loss

Ben Hutchens Digital Editor It was emphasized in practice. Auburn drives the basketball. The Oklahoma State Cowgirls were unable to stop the Auburn Tigers’ biggest strength, falling 77-66 Sunday afternoon in Auburn, Alabama. It is OSU’s third consecutive loss. The Cowgirls trailed for the majority of the game. The Tigers dominated points in the paint 44-28 in large part because of the driving efficiency of guards Aicha Coulibaly and Honesty Scott-Grayson, who combined for 47 points on only 26 shots from the field. “We had been pretty solid defensively against pretty much everyone, but Tennessee and I just couldn’t dream we’d play this poorly on the defensive end of the floor,” OSU coach Jim Littell said. The Tigers got downhill momentum toward the basket too often for the Cowgirls to have defensive success. “I don’t know if some of these kids are a little shell-shocked right now but we got to do a better job of listening,” Littell said. Auburn converted 60% of shots from the field, a mark that didn’t leave OSU in a position to mount a comeback. The Cowgirl offense, on a day where not much was falling, couldn’t keep up. OSU shot 43.1% from the field and 25% from three. Lauren Fields led the Cowgirls with 20 points. Freshman forward Macie James scored a career-high 10 points. Early in the contest, sophomore forward Taylen Collins was helped off the floor not putting any weight on her right leg. She reentered the game a short while later and was described as walking “without a hobble.” “It was a scary moment when Tay went down, and I think the world of her not only as a player but more importantly as a young lady and it was a scary moment for us and I’m glad she’s ok,” Littell said. “She’s had some ankle injuries; she’s had some knee issues before and you just get really concerned for the young lady when that happens.”

schools will face off Jan. 1 in Glendale, Arizona in the Playstation Fiesta Bowl. the Irish to Stillwater, but they are a hot commodity. “Years ago, we tried to work out a series but what I was told was Notre Dame has been booked up for a long, long time, so it never worked out,” Gundy said. OSU making sure the Big 12 loss serves as motivation. Football is described as a game of inches, and for OSU its season and postseason aspirations came down to that inch. The Cowboys dropped the Big 12 Championship game Saturday to Baylor. Instead of letting the loss act as a discouraging factor they hope to

use it to bounce back even stronger. “Well with our team I haven’t really had to do much all year. This is a mature group. They’ve handled themselves the right way, they compete each week,” Gundy said. “We’re going to give them a week off and I fully expect later this weekend, be ready to go and be excited to play Notre Dame.” Gundy on Jaylen Warren’s availability moving forward.

Fiesta... Continued from 5 The Cowboys running attack was nonexistent Saturday without their starting running back Jaylen Warren. Warren 1,134 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns for the Cowboys in 2021. Coach Gundy didn’t have a direct answer for if Warren will be available for the Fiesta Bowl, but he remains hopeful. “I won’t see him until I get back off the road on Friday. I know that he’ll be in treatment and we’re hoping to get him better. It was difficult for him to not play (Saturday), but we didn’t feel like he was full speed. We didn’t feel like he could protect himself,” Gundy said. “Hopefully we can get him back.” Knowles remains a priority to keep in Stillwater. OSU’s defense has reached

heights that seemed unimaginable for a Big 12 team. But with the Big 12’s style of play changing and defensive coordinator Jim Knowles at the helm the Cowboys defense is surging. The success has made Knowles a national job, and a candidate for open jobs. OSU is working to keep him in Stillwater. “We want our players to trust the coaches and obviously they trust coach Knowles. Blank checks are a little much. I don’t know that I could go that far,” Gundy said. “We’re in the process today and in really some over the last couple of weeks and trying to work out a deal to keep him here. I think it’s best for Oklahoma State football, and I think coach Knowles wants to be here. We’re working hard to keep it in place.” Rees on being awarded a bid to the Fiesta Bowl Notre Dame entered Sunday with an outside chance at making the College Football Playoff after an 11-1 season. Instead the Fighting Irish

ended up at No. 5, just one spot outside of competing for a national championship. “We’re excited to represent a historic game in a great manner. We got a great opponent in Oklahoma State,” Rees said. “I think our entire program is extremely excited to get back out there on the field.” OSU’s defense presents challenges to Rees and the Notre Dame offense. Notre Dame’s Rees led offense touts the No. 21 scoring offense in the country scoring 35.2 points per game. The unit is now met by the No. 3 defense in total defense and the No. 8 scoring defense. One of the two will need to give in the New Year’s Day meeting. “We’ve heard about Oklahoma State all year,” Rees said. “I know a lot of the conversation has been about how strong their defense has been playing, you know, I think over the last 10 years or so when you think about that program you think offense first, right.

But I think Coach Knowles has done a great job preparing them… We’re going to have to really dive into who they are and what they do and how we want to answer some of those issues that they present.” Notre Dame has rallied together since Brian Kelly left for LSU. Brian Kelly had been at Notre Dame since 2010 before abruptly leaving to take the head coaching job at LSU. Since the departure the team has rallied around newly named coach Marcus Freeman, who has served as the Irish defensive coordinator this season. “I think you’re gonna get a team that’s extremely hungry. I think you’re getting a team that’s going to be extremely motivated to go out there and play their best football,” Rees said. “ I’m really looking forward to the energy that this entire week has brought the program and continuing to build off of that.” sports.ed@ocolly.com

Tips on preparing for finals, from a Spears TA

Alicia Cornelius Staff Reporter 1. Allow yourself time to take breaks. Cramming is not always the most effective way to study. You need to give yourself time to rest and absorb the information. You cannot take breaks unless you have time to take breaks, so allow yourself the time. 2. Practice makes perfect. Repetition is key! 3. Making a mistake is ok-- as long as you take the opportunity to learn from it That is why practice is important so that you can make the mistakes earlier. 4. Listen to your favorite playlist. Sometimes you cannot just settle for “study music.” Classical is not always the best study music, sometimes you need to hype yourself up. 5. Believe in yourself, you got this! Two volleyball courts, outdoor seating and an outdoor bar give customers an added experience. “My vision was to create a restaurant with something to do,” Scott Stedman, the owner and former OSU student, said. “Stillwater doesn’t have anything like that, so I wanted to start Smokin’ Joe’s Stilly.” Stedman was inspired to open his own barbecue joint after visiting a restaurant in Arizona years ago. Stedman said the restaurant was filled with carousel horses, airplanes and volleyball courts. Several years later, Stedman took that inspiration and created Smokin’ Joes Stilly. “It’s the perfect place to play volleyball, drink a beer and watch a

sunset,” Stedman said. He said even though there’s a bar, the outdoor entertainment area is family friendly and open to all ages. “Anybody can come,” Stedman said. “I have kids playing in the sand all day long.” Stedman said the restaurant is a family affair and he’s very excited to work alongside his sons in his new adventure. The restaurant was a big reason why Stedman moved back to Stillwater and is happy to be back home. When asked what Stedman is most looking forward to, he replied with a grin, “I enjoy the people and being back in Stillwater.” news.ed@ocolly.com
