How OSU stacks up in the Big 12 in sustainability Kylie Hammack Staff Reporter Sonrisa Bebo, an OSU freshman French major, has a passion that is not typical of all language majors: sustainability. In addition to her French major, Bebo is studying fashion merchandising and global studies as minors. Bebo became interested in sustainability during her senior year of high school and has grown that passion in college. “It started out in fashion specifically and going thrifting but when I came here as a Freshman Research Scholar, I couldn’t find any research opportunities in French. So, I decided to do my own study on sustainability,” Bebo said. With the occurrence of Earth Day last Friday, OSU organizations hosted various events promoting sustainability and overall appreciation of the planet. However, through her research, Bebo is examining how OSU performs in sustainability in comparison to other Big 12 universities yearround. “There is actually a lot going on here on campus and people just don’t know about it,” Bebo said. To show this, one portion of Bebo’s research was a survey for OSU students that assessed their knowledge of and ideas about OSU’s sustainability. “With the survey I sent out, I had about 80 full responses,” Bebo said. “The consensus was that students thought that sustainability might be happening on campus, and wanted to believe that it was, but they weren’t for sure.” Some examples of sustainability on campus Bebo found when completing her case study included sustainable features in the Ferguson College of Agriculture’s new building, the position of campus sustainability director, a living-learning community in the Iba residence hall that practices living sustainably, and the panhellenic club “Green Greeks.” “I think OSU should advertise what is going on more. That would be one great way to start informing students of what’s going on or seeing if they can get students involved with sustainability,” Bebo said. To measure how well OSU is faring in its sustainability initiatives, Bebo utilized a database that scores universities on sustainability based on self-reported data. A few Big 12 schools, including the University of Oklahoma, do not report their sustainability data but Bebo was still able to gauge OSU’s sustainability success from the data available. “I looked at the Big 12 university scores and compared and, actually, OSU is the third best,” Bebo said. Although her time as a Freshman Research Scholar is coming to a close, Bebo is interested in furthering her research on sustainability. “I want to look at other universities that are doing very very well even if they are not in the Big 12 and see what they are doing and if we could possibly implement it here at OSU,” Bebo said. Bebo said she sees college campuses as the perfect environment to implement sustainability practices and measures. “I think it’s important that future leaders, business people, and citizens of the world are aware of how to make the environment better,” Bebo said.

Moncrieffe, Boone announce transfer destinations Ashton Slaughter Staff Reporter Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe and Keylan Boone announced where they’ll be transferring early Monday afternoon. Moncrieffe, a forward from Canada, announced early Monday afternoon via Instagram that he is transferring to Georgia. “Athens let’s get to it,” Moncrieffe said in an Instagram post. Moncrieffe, a two-time Canadian Player of the Year, was a four-star prospect coming out of Orangeville Prep according to ESPN and Rivals. With the addition of Moussa Cisse and Tyreek Smith the past season, Moncrieffe had career lows in points, rebounds, and minutes in 2021-22. A fresh start seems like what Moncrieffe needs. Athens will have some familiar faces for Moncrieffe. Former OSU assistant coach Erik Pastrana is on staff for the Bulldogs. After Moncreiffe announced his commitment, Pastrana tweeted, “Good start to what should be a fun week,” along with a Canadian flag emoji and various others before putting #GoDawgs. Soon after, Keylan Boone announced via Twitter he was transferring to University of the Pacific. Boone, a Tulsa-native and former three-star recruit, primarily came off the bench for the Cowboys this past season. He attempted a career-high 4.2 3-pointers per game, shooting 31.6% from beyond the arc. Boone was seen taking a visit at Pacific last week with Donovan Williams, the other former Cowboy in the transfer portal, via Williams’ Snapchat. Both players will be keeping their original colors, as Moncrieffe will be returning to red and white, like his Canadian roots, and Boone will continue to wear orange and black. Cowgirls sweep Texas with the help of Elish, Cottrill Miranda Elish’s injuries and impressive play Miranda Elish pitched a dominant game early Sunday afternoon. With one out remaining in the game, Elish was ready to capture the series against Texas after retiring 13 batters in a row at that point, not to mention her two-run home run in the third inning. Then she grabbed her shoulder after a bad pitch. “She’s obviously got some irritation... she’s a little tight,” Gajewski said. Elish then exited the game, and pitcher Kelly Maxwell came in to finish the inning, capping off a 3-0 victory. When it comes to the severity of the Elish’s injury, Gajewski is unsure of her status. “We don’t know, I mean, we’ll just see,” Gajewski said. “We’ll get an X-ray tonight or tomorrow and get a scan and go through it all.” Gajewski revealed that the shoulder injury wasn’t the only thing wrong with Elish’s health currently, as due to weather conditions Saturday night, the team was being rushed down for shelter. When walking down a flight of stairs, Elish slipped, hitting her tailbone, which led to an emergency room trip and an X-ray for the starting pitcher. “I woke up this morning and I didn’t know if she was gonna pitch,” Molly Jolliff said Gajewski. It’s not just about her performing well on the field though, as it’s clear her passion for the game is shining through her play. “She’s another one that has fallen back in love with softball,” Gajewski said. It’s not just Gajewski that looks after her on staff though, as her dad, Jeff Cottrill is in his fifth season on staff with OSU softball. Even with Jeff being around the team, Gajewski knows that he’s also a leader towards Julia. “He’s (Jeff Cottrill) looking to me, you know, to lead her too,” Gajewski said. “It’s not just him, I think he wants me to lead her.” Senior celebration After an emotional day like senior day, Gajewski is looking forward to just one thing. “Looking forward to going home and... sitting in the chair,” he said. Seven Cowgirl seniors were honored after Sunday’s doubleheader, some of which have been in the program for years, others, who have joined this season, like Morgan Day. For Day, this isn’t her first senior day though, as she also had one at her former college, Illinois State, saying: “It’s kinda unusual that somebody gets two senior days. Even though she’s only been with the program for one season, the love and support she felt Sunday was real though, I felt just as honored at this one as I did one at a university I spent four years with.” Even with the sweep over a wellrespected team like Texas, Gajewski is just happy it’s all over. “It’s been an emotional ride... I’m just glad this weekend is over with,” he said.

WHEN IS LITTLE MUCH?
There is a short chorus that has encouraged me many times. “Little is much if God is in it. Labor not for wealth or fame. There’s a crown and you can win it. If you go in Jesus’ name.” The woman, who poured the precious ointment on Jesus just before he was crucified, was criticized for “wasting” this expensive item. Yet, Jesus said everywhere the gospel is preached this woman’s action would be told. (Mk 14:3-9) Little things mean a lot as we are willing to serve the Lord. Paul mentions many in Romans 16 who helped him. The Good Samaritan stopped to help the man beaten and robbed. (Lu.10:30-37) Paul writes as you have opportunity, do good to all men, especially to other believers.(Gal.6:10) When the poor widow dropped the two pennies, all that she had, into the temple offering. Jesus said she gave more the large offerings given. Her “large giving” was in relation to what she had. (Mk.12:41-44)
Many people may plan to give when they receive a great amount of money, but that large amount of money may never come. We may plan to give time or talent to a project when we have more time, but that perfect time arrangement may never happen. Again, the apostle Paul encourages us “as you have opportunity, do good to all men.” We never know when a little gesture of kindness, with money, or helping in an area of service, spending a little time with a person, a word of encouragement, will be just the action that will be a great help to someone. These can be practical ways of living out the Lord’s challenge to love one another. This is the fulfilling of the many commandments in the Bible: loving people by word and action.

Donald Trump hit with $10,000 daily fines, held in contempt in New York probe Molly Crane-Newman New York Daily News NEW YORK — A Manhattan judge held former President Donald Trump in civil contempt Monday, slapping him with daily $10,000 fines for “repeated delays and failures” to comply with New York Attorney General Letitia James’ fraud investigation. “Mr. Trump, I know you take your business seriously, and I take mine seriously. I hereby hold you in civil contempt and fine you $10,000 a day,” Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron said, addressing Trump, though the former president was not present for the hearing. The judge ruled the former president flouted a court-ordered March 31 deadline to turn over paperwork. The fines will continue until Engoron decides Trump has fully complied with James’ demands for documents. The judge concluded the hearing with a theatrical slam of the gavel. Nuzlocking: A way to make Pokémon more challenging
Courtesy of Tribune News Service Nuzlocking is a great way for past Pokémon players to get back into the game.
Baylor Bryant Staff Reporter Nuzlocking is a great way to get back into Pokémon. For the last 26 years, Pokémon has been a huge part of childhoods across the world. With the next generation of Pokémon games coming out later this year, you might want to revisit some of the old ones from your past. The problem arises when older Pokémon fans come back to the games they played in their childhood and realize how easy the games really were, some of the novelty wears off. When we were all children, the games
Party/Semi-formal Pageant/Performace Wedding
seemed harder, but now that players have grown older, Pokémon do not seem as challenging as they used to be. That might not be an issue for you. The Pokémon games do a really good job with their replay ability, with all the different teams you can create on your journey. But if you want to revisit a cornerstone of your childhood, and make these games challenging again, there is a solution for you. A “Pokémon Nuzlocke” is a great way to make Pokémon more challenging for older audiences. A “Pokémon Nuzlocke” is just a normal playthrough of a Pokémon game, but with a few key differences that make the game more interesting. The first rule of a “Pokémon Nuzlocke” is that you can only catch your
121 E 9th Ave, Downtown www.formalfantasy.com 405-780-7720
first encounter on each route. This rule gives players a limited choice when making a team. Now, more thought and strategy has to be made, because you can’t pick and choose from every Pokémon available in the game. The second rule is that you must name every Pokémon you acquire. Naming Pokémon makes each one more unique and allows them to be more of a character in your playthrough. The third rule is that if a Pokémon faints in battle, then they are unusable for the rest of the playthrough. This means if you lose a battle, you lose the run and must start back at the beginning. This brings high stakes to every battle and makes the game more
challenging. More strategy and preparation must be made for all of the main fights in the game, because your next battle could be your last. There are other rules that you can implement to make your run more challenging like using no items in battle, having a level cap at each gym leader or playing with a specific theme team like all water Pokémon. Nuzlocking is a great way to add more challenge to Pokémon games, and allows players to be able to experience these games as if it were your first time playing.
