Bowl victory in 1976. He was named the Big Eight Offensive Player of the Year in ‘76 and ‘77. His jersey number remains one of the four the Cowboys no longer use, and he still holds records for most career 100-yard games (26) and most consecutive 100-yard games (19). Following OSU, Miller was selected No. 5 overall in the 1978 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. Miller served as the replacement for O.J. Simpson, breaking the 1,000-yard milestone in his rookie season. He would play two more seasons with the Bills, concluding his NFL career in 1981 with the Seattle Seahawks. Following the NFL, Miller worked in marketing and sales. He lives in Stillwater, and remains diligent in the city, volunteering at several non-profit organizations. Miller, 17 other players and three coaches will be officially inducted on Dec. 6 at a location to be determined.

Terry Miller might have donned No. 43 at Oklahoma State, but he is the Cowboys’ No. 7 in the College Hall of Fame. On Monday, the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame announced its 2022 class, with Miller, OSU’s running back from 1974-77, accounting as one of the 18 players being inducted. Miller becomes the seventh Cowboy inducted into the hall, and most recent since Leslie O’Neal, who was honored in 2020. Coach Lynn “Pappy” Waldorf, Bob Fenimore, Barry Sanders, Thurman Thomas and coach Jimmy Johnson are other former OSU figures who have been inducted. Through four seasons with OSU, Miller collected more than 4,700 yards and FULL 2022 IN49 touchdowns, finishing a DUCTEES Heisman Trophy runner-up LaVar Arrington in 1977 and fourth in 1976. 3 things to watch Keys looking to build off Tech performance against TCU Calif Poncy Staff Reporter Can Lexy Keys follow up her performance vs TTU? Coach Jim Littell’s call for a second offensive option was answered by sophomore Lexy Keys against Texas Tech. After struggling for a stretch of games, Keys described TTU as a “confidence booster” and will look to hold onto her momentum and have a repeat performance against TCU. Keys had flashed earlier in the season against teams like Colorado and SMU, and then she was able to make five threes and contribute 17 points against the Red Raiders. The talented guard will look to become a consistent second option for a Cowgirls team that has needed a scoring punch opposite Lauren Fields this season. Can OSU get another win heading into a tough

stretch of conference play? While the Cowgirls have struggled at times this season, they still sit above the Horned Frogs in the overall Big 12 standings. With OSU getting ready to head into a stretch that includes games against ranked opponents such as Iowa State, Baylor and Oklahoma, beating teams that are below them in the standings is paramount to OSU having a chance at a tournament bid. Can OSU improve their defense? Despite a win against Texas Tech, the Cowgirls allowed the Red Raiders to shoot 42% from the field, and 62% from the 3-point line. OSU did a good job of forcing turnovers, but it was the second straight game the Cowgirls opponent was able to convert on more than 50 percent of its 3-point attempts. If the rest of the Cowgirls can match her intensity, the opposing team’s percentages will surely start going down as they head deeper into Big 12 play. sports.ed@ocolly.com

‘Betty White Day’ to take place in hometown to celebrate what would’ve been her 100th birthday Karu F. Daniels New York Daily News

Oak Park Village President Vicki Scaman is scheduled to give a proclamation for Betty White Day and a representative from the Historical Society of Oak Park and River Forest will give a speech on what Oak Park looked like 100 years ago. “Betty White, as a true optimist, made the choice every day to be happy,” Scanlan told The Daily News. “Embracing the memory of her amazing life and taking the time to honor her feels like a symbol of hope. She has given us so much to smile and laugh to. We are proud to know and celebrate her connection to the Village of Oak Park.” White’s 100th birthday is also being celebrated on social media with the Twitter hashtag #BettyWhiteChallenge, encouraging fans to donate $5 (or more) to local animal shelters or rescue organizations in her name, or if possible to adopt a shelter pet. The five-time Emmy Award winner and Television Hall of Famer famously championed care and love for all animals. “Both my mother and father were tremendous animal lovers,” she told Smithsonian Magazine in 2012. “They imbued in me the fact that, to me, there isn’t an animal on the planet that I don’t find fascinating and want to learn more about.” That year, she authored the book, “Betty & Friends: My Life at the Zoo.” Just last month, Ray Richmond’s biographical celebration “Betty White: 100 Remarkable Moments in an Extraordinary Life” was published. ——— ©2022 New York Daily News. A birthday celebration fit for a queen has pivoted to a memorial for the last of America’s treasured “Golden Girls.” On what would’ve been her 100th birthday, Betty White’s hometown is set to pay a fitting tribute to the late television icon. The star of landmark sitcoms such as “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “The Golden Girls,” and “Hot in Cleveland” — who died Dec. 31 just three weeks shy of her Jan. 17th centennial — will have a day named after her in Oak Park, Illinois. Due to the nationally Martin Luther King Jr. holiday observance on Jan. 17, event organizer Lourdes Nicholls told The Daily News on Thursday that official festivities will commence Jan. 15, with festivities kicking off at 10 a.m. The Saturday event will include a giant birthday cake made by Turano Baking Company, a Betty White mural contest, a pet adoption event (with The Animal Care League) and the lighting of the local Lake Theatre’s marquee. Local businesses will feature specials of White’s favorite foods – which she said in 2012 were “hot dogs and Red Vines and potato chips and French fries.” A performance by Cindy Fee, the fellow Oak Parker who sang the iconic “Golden Girls” theme song, “Thank You for Being a Friend” is also scheduled. “Oak Park is not quite St. Olaf but we are proud to be Betty White’s real hometown,” Nicholls shared, referencing the Minnesota birthplace of White’s “Golden Girls” character Rose Nylund. “We look forward to celebrating her on January 15th.” Though raised in Los Angeles since early childhood, White was born at West Suburban Hospital in 1922 and lived with her parents in an apartment on Pleasant Street and a house on North entertainment.ed@ocolly.com Taylor Avenue.

BE DEFINITE!

It has been a number of years ago that the Lord Jesus challenged me to be definite in making myself available to him. I was attending church regularly. My wife and I were giving to the work of God. We were not doing anything that would be considered wrong in the eyes of God. I thought I was available to Christ. As I prayed about this, I felt the Lord wanted me to spend more consistent time with him. I decided to get up each morning and spend an hour in prayer and in the Bible. The first morning when I knelt at the living room couch, I went to sleep. What a commitment! However, I did not give up. The next morning with my Bible in hand, I walked back and forth across the living room praising, praying and reading the Bible. I was being definite, not perfect, but definite.

King David said, “My heart says of you (God), ‘Seek his Face! Your face, Lord, I will seek.’ (Ps.27:8) David was a man after God’s own heart. He certainly was not perfect, but one who sought after and followed God. Being definite with God has such great reward. He is the Good Shepherd that will faithfully lead our lives into the best and lasting way. As the Lord challenges our lives in various areas of obedience and service, It is so important to be definite; to be clear, to be wholehearted. Go all the way, and do that thing(s) you are challenged to do. Don’t compromise! Possibly God is challenging you about a definite time in prayer and in scripture. Maybe it is in giving; not just occasionally, but often and consistently Maybe it is Christian service; helping is mission work; worthwhile projects. Go for it! Be definite. You will find God definite, and there will be lasting fruit and satisfaction.

SUAB kicks off new semester with events

A student pets Tasha, a member of Pete’s Pet Posse, at SUAB’s first event of the semester “Puppies and Puppy Chow” in the Student Union theater lobby on Jan. 10.

Ellen Slater Staff Reporter Between drag shows and Mardi Gras, Oklahoma State students interested in on-campus events are going to have their calendars full. Last week, the Student Union Activities Board, more commonly known as SUAB, released its spring 2022 schedule. The schedule consisted of 24 events for the semester that started this Monday, with the first event being held on the first day of school, to the final event being held the last week of school in May.

Students may be familiar with some events SUAB is planning this semester. The annual drag show, “Dragonfly and Late Night Cafe” and pancakes during finals week are some events that have happened in previous semesters and will return because of the success. An event that caught the attention of some students, as it has not been on the recent schedule, is the “Nearly Naked Mile.” Participants are going to wear layers of clothing they are wanting to donate. Along a running route, there will be pit stops where the runners “strip” down their clothes until they eventually are wearing the required bathing suit under the layer. All of the clothes will be donated to the Salvation Army. Henry Fredricks has been a part of SUAB since 2018 and currently serves as the Vice President on the executive team. “We will be having some re-

ally cool, and unique events that are not (usually) offered during the winter semester,” Fredricks said. “As an executive team, we have been working closely with the various vendors and have kept our ears close to the ground to listen to the feedback from OSU students to hear what they are looking for in SUAB events.” All of the events are free to OSU students and community members.
