IMPROVE YOUR GOLF SWING
Protecting your legacy The whole concept of legacy is a deeply powerful way of connecting with others. You work hard to create a life that makes the people around you happy, to provide and care for those you love, and to impact the lives of those around you in a positive way, financially and emotionally. Planning the legacy you are leaving behind connects you to those whose lives you touch, and that they touch, and so on, potentially for generations to come.
of our past Australian and New Zealand heroes who fought during the First World War. As much as Australians embrace the concept of legacy, too many have done nothing to protect their own legacy. Startling according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics up to 45% of Australians do not have a will. One of the best ways tell your family how much you love them is by ensuring that your legacy will be there for them tomorrow, even if you may not.
Your legacy, something that literally takes you a lifetime to develop and nurture and yes, work dam hard to achieve, encompasses so much. There is the emotional aspect, those stories of inspiration that will live on in the minds of generations to come and there is the financial legacy that will provide for and contribute to the happiness and wellbeing of your family and loved ones, your legacy, your ongoing gift and what you have achieved. Do you worry that you won’t leave a legacy? Consider this quote by Barbara DeAngelis, Ph.D. “If you feel ordinary, it is because you have chosen to hide the extraordinary parts of yourself from the world.” Make sure you don’t hide them from yourself, too!
“The greatest gift is a portion of thyself”
Australian’s love the concept of legacy. Recently Australia celebrated ANZAC day, dedicated to honouring the deeds
You may be surprised to learn that the Australian Human Rights Commission actually has included in its list of publications a guide entitled ‘Your right to plan your will and other end of life decisions’. It is a basic human right to protect your legacy and unfortunately it is estimated that nearly half of all Australians die without a will. In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, an American essayist, lecturer, and poet of the mid-19th-century, “The greatest gift is a portion of thyself”. Your legacy is just that,

your greatest gift to generations to come and unfortunately many Australians are not taking even the first step of creating their will to see their legacy carried on. Family Succession Planning is also called Estate Planning and requires an in-depth knowledge of the financial and legal considerations to achieve provisions in your will that enables you to leave the legacy you want. Estate Planning ensures the people you nominate will in fact care for your dependants, that trusts are created to best protect your wealth, and that your wealth and estate are managed by professionals and not a government nominated individual who may be unqualified to make the best decisions regarding the ongoing management of your financial legacy and putting in place clear directives concerning what you leave to who, to prevent arguments over assumptions made concerning your wishes. It’s your legacy, it’s up to you to protect it. Contact Owen Hodge Lawyers for a free consultation and expert advice on how to structure your will and Estate Plan, and ensure your legacy remains a part of the lives of those you love, in the way that you truly want it to be.

TRAVELLING STIMULATES
THE MIND
AND KEEPS YOU YOUNG FEELING STRESSED? WORRIED THAT YOUR MEMORY IS NOT WHAT IT COULD BE? PERHAPS YOUR RELATIONSHIP IS UNDER STRAIN RIGHT NOW? THE LATEST RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THE BEST PRESCRIPTION TO CURE ANY OF THESE AILMENTS, IS TRAVEL.
Brain-boosting travel It has always been assumed that travelling has multiple benefits. A US based company has recently confirmed this. The US Travel Association has gathered extensive data and indeed proven that travelling benefits the mind, relationships and general health. The US Travel Association study demonstrates that when it comes to the health of your mind, travel keeps it sharp and bright, and has a positive effect on the brain. The brain enhancing benefits of social and vacation experiences stem from regular involvement in new activities that take you outside your usual daily comfort zone. Travelling or even trying your hand at a new hobby or activity, are all associated with lowering the chances of developing dementia later in life.
Travelling for love Couples, in romantic relationships, that travel together report increased satisfaction with their relationship. A survey conducted by US Travel Association showed that couples reported improved communication, enhanced romance, a better sex life and a desire to achieve common goals. In summary, this survey proved the age-old
myth that couples that travel together are happier together, reporting a higher level of satisfaction in the relationship of couples who travel together as opposed to couples who do not.
Travelling to stay young We all know that physical activity improves your health, which in turn helps you look and feel great. “Physical inactivity accounts for more than 3 million death per year, largely from non-communicable diseases, such as coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes and cancer, which have higher prevalence in older populations.” (Global Coalition On Aging, page 9). Moving and keeping active are some of the challenges of travel that will improve your health and physical appearance, keeping you looking and feeling young in body and at heart. There has never been more incentive to get out there and broaden your horizons, improve your health, relationship and mind, by travelling.

AUSTRALIANS REACH OUT TO THE LAWRENCE BROTHERS In a moment of deep tragedy and darkness the Australians reached out to the orphan Lawrence Brothers who faced an uncertain future on their very own. Their father Christopher died due to “unfortunate circumstances” in 2008, the youngest brother went through a brain surgery in 2012, before the eldest brother had to turn off their beloved mothers life support a few weeks ago. Three teenage brothers were facing funeral expenses, mortgage and school expenses, along with water, power and medical bills; without any adult’s income to support them. Thankfully, through the television program A Current Affair, and radio stations such as KIIS 1065, Australians have donated well over a million dollars to these struggling brothers from Sydney. Australia’s generosity provides a boost to our faith in humanity and shows the spirit of Australians, in those reaching out to help our young fellow ‘Aussie battlers’ through the worst of circumstances. Unfortunately, this is not the first time young Australians have experienced this
type of tragedy. Owen Hodge Lawyers hope the Lawrence Brothers’ story is an eyeopener to families all over Australia. Owen Hodge Lawyers have developed a specific initiative called Family Future to encourage parents to think about the possibility that such a tragedy could occur in their family
“No parent wants this future for their children”
the long run. No parent wants this future for their children. No grandparent wants this future for their grandchild. We ask everyone who cares for a young dependent to stop and truly think about the ‘what if’s’. Because the sad fact is the sometimes the most horrific of ‘what if’s’ can indeed eventuate. For the price of a new designer watch or handbag Family Future is here to guide you through the process of ensuring that such a tragic story as the Lawrence Brothers, does not occur to your young loved ones. The Lawrence Brothers still need help and support from anybody who is willing to do so. If you are a business or someone who wants to place a donation to the struggling Lawrence Brothers, we encourage you to donate.
with equally devastating results, and to help parents to prevent similar future ever occurring for their child. The last thing any young grieving child should have to think about, is paying a mortgage, affording medical bills and paying for funeral costs. Imagine being a 14 year old kid, just recovered from brain surgery, faced with the loss of both parents and knowing that your sibling’s highly important medicine cannot be paid for in

A fine-wine enthusiast? These top 5 wines are a must WINE HAS BEEN A TREASURED PART OF MANY CULTURES FOR CENTURIES. FROM THE CULTIVATION OF PRECIOUS GRAPE VARIETIES TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF SPARKLING AND FORTIFIED WINES, WINE MAKING HAS GROWN AND DEVELOPED ALONGSIDE THE CRAFTSPEOPLE THAT HAVE LOVINGLY SQUASHED, BOTTLED AND CELLARED IT OVER THE EONS. IF YOU’RE A WINE LOVER HERE ARE FIVE OF OUR FAVOURITE’S WINES.
Château d’Arcins Castelnau of 2010 Suduiraut 2006 Let’s begin with a classical French type of wine; the “Haut médoc”. My father used to say “If you have to bring a bottle of wine at a dinner, always buy a médoc. It’s not the most expansive wine you can find but it always has a wonderful taste.” This one from Château d’Arcins is no exception to the rule. Clear garnet, yet woody nose of black fruits cooked, dry plum, blueberry. Balance, length, soft tannins and melted. Seducer. This red wine fits remarkably with white meat like chicken or lamb.
The classic Sauternes wine has an intense golden colour, which turns a deep amber as it ages in bottle. The aromas include blossom and stone fruit, with a hint of honeysuckle. The second wine of Suduiraut, Castelnau of Suduiraut, has a good balance, nice fruit and good freshness. This wine fit perfectly with cheese such as goat cheese.
Château Saint Georges Cote Pavie 2006 Let’s continue with one of the most known French type of wine; the “SaintEmilion”. The vineyard of the small estate of Château Pavie Saint Georges Cote extends over 5 hectares, located on the clay-limestone slopes of Pavia, Pavia between the castle and the castle Gaffelière. Its production is representative of the Saint Emilion appellation. This red wine is ideal to savour red meat.
“Wine is one of th e most c things in ivilized th the mos e world and on e of t natura l things world th of the at has be en broug greatest ht to the perfecti on, and a greate it offers r range fo r en apprecia tion than joyment and , pos other pu rely sens sibly, any ory thing .” ― Ernes t Hemin gway
Lieu dit Malakoff Chateau Cavalier 2008 – Domaine Cotes de Terlato and Provence Rosé Château Cavalier was Chapoutier Michel Chapoutier and Anthony Terlato have been an award winning pair for 10 years now. The wine “Lieu dit Malakoff” is considered one of the best Australian productions by critics.Fruits and spices blend perfectly with roundness and a balanced structure in the mouth. acquired by Pierre Castel in 2000. This property produces exclusively rosé wines of high quality. Vineyard restructuring and significant investments in the winery today allow us to compete with larger ones. Pale salmon in colour. Aromas of red fruits and citrus. Delicate finish. Best served with white meat, grilled fish or soft cheese.

TIPS TO IMPROVE YOUR
GOLF SWING
IF YOU’RE A GOLFER YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT A GOOD SWING IS THE KEY TO A GREAT GAME AND TO SUCCESS. THERE ARE A LOT OF PLAYERS WHICH ARE NOT SATISFIED WITH THEIR GOLF SWING. IF YOU WANT TO IMPROVE YOUR SWING HERE ARE SOME TIPS TO HELP YOU OUT.
Stay on track
Get into the swing of it
Imagine a set of railroad tracks leading to the hole. “You want the clubface to be on the outer track, and your feet, hips, and shoulders on the inner track,” says Todd Hamilton the winner of the 2004 Open Championship. The smaller the club number, the more you should move the ball forward on the track with your driver, the ball should be almost at your left heel. With high-numbered clubs, move your ball back. Keep your knees flexed over your shoestrings as if you were about to complete a squat.
Start your golf swing with your weight distributed evenly on each leg, but add more weight to your right when you take the club back. Throw this weight onto your left leg as you swing through the ball. Relax on the tee. Stepping up for your shot brings pressure along with it. Take a deep breath, focus on your mechanics and swing through the ball calmly. Trying to overpower your swing and hit the ball as hard as you can ruin your form. Practicing proper form and swinging calmly through the ball will result in accurate shots. As you become more comfortable with the form and accuracy, you can employ more power through your legs and hips.
Pay attention to posture A good posture is primordial to improve your swing. The key to a good setup is to tilt toward the ball from your hip joints, not your waist. The difference is subtle, but bending from the waist causes the back to get rounded. It’s tough to make a good swing from this un-athletic position.
Grip the club correctly If you’re right-handed, hold the club with your left fingers, position it directly over the point where your fingers meet your hand, pointing your thumb straight down the shaft. Lay your right hand over it so your right palm is over your left thumb. If you have short fingers, interlock your right pinkie with your left index finger; if you have longer fingers, overlap them. Make sure the V between your right thumb and index finger points directly up your arm to your right shoulder. Finally, and most important: Don’t grip it too tightly. Imagine you are holding an open tube of toothpaste; try not to squeeze any out!

Practice, practice and practice some more You need to practice as much as you possibly can. Your swing mechanics can be improved practicing and concentrating on each movement consistently. Hit a golf ball in a natural movement and develop muscle memory.
Have the ‘drive’ The desire for golf is needed to further and improve your golf swing, in fact some would say it is the most important component in developing a better swing! If you incorporate a regular regimen of sport-specific strength and flexibility exercises into your workout schedule, you should begin to see your performance improve within a few weeks. Combine your workouts with whole foods and plenty of water, and you’ll be well on your way to the perfect swing.
