Interview with David Kauffman
1) When did you start with Bulldogs and when did you start BullyNet? I got my first Bulldog in 1996. In 2003 I restarted with a champion foundation bitch, and never looked back. In 2001 I wanted to learn about software development on the internet, since that was starting to really take off. So, I joined my love for Bulldogs with my love of tech‑ nology and computers and created BullyNet.com 2) Your Bulldog Interviews Podcast in very popular and you have interviewed various long time bulldoggers. Which interview stands out as the one that has had the most reaction? Each interview has been very rewarding for me as the interviews al‑ low me to get into the world of some wonderful Bulldoggers. The first interview that I did, was with Nancy Schultz. She’s a legend here and had a ton of stories. I try and glean something from each interview. We are in the early part of a series with a great veterinarian and fellow bulldogger Dr. Allan Frank in which we discuss issues, treatments and the care Bulldogs need. For upcoming interviews we are constantly seeking interesting Bull‑ dog topics and people as well as adding interviews with international bulldoggers. 3) BullyNet.com is a great website, with many features, both new and experienced breeders find it useful. How much time and effort is going into maintaining a website like this and ensuring the information is relevant and up to date? BullyNet has been setup from its inception to allow breeders to enter their own Bulldogs information, pedigrees and pictures. When I first started BullyNet we allowed anyone to enter their dogs for free. As you can imagine some people who were not breeding for the better‑

ment of the breed started to list some dogs that didn’t even resemble a bulldog. So I added a small annual fee and most of those breeders were dropped from the site. We also added a requirement that you needed to be a member of your national breed club. Once that was in place the quality of the dogs and breeders really increased. One way that I have always differentiated BullyNet from other sites, it the re‑ quirement to enter the dogs pedigree or it will not be displayed. With these and a few other quality control measures in place the site runs pretty well with minimal effort from me. 4) What is the name of your kennel? My kennel name is InGlory’s Bulldogs. My mentor and good friend Pete Aguirre has guided me and my dogs are an extension of his line. 5) What are the benefits for a bulldog breeder in associating his/ her with BullyNet? We understand the internet and what it takes to make it work. By that I mean we eat, sleep and drink this stuff. We know what Google likes to make the information show up in the top search pages. So when someone is looking for a stud or puppy or breeder, well Bully‑ Net is at the top of the list. So we help you get found. BullyNet gets about 2/3 of its visitors from mobile devices. A few years ago we saw this coming and BullyNet looks awesome on smart phones and tablets. Breeders on BullyNet can also run their own website for the information that they enter for BullyNet. So enter it once and its live on both. This option was driven by me going bonkers when I would come across a good breeders website and it was announcing a new litter coming that was very often over 3 years old. This feature really helps breeders keep their own websites up to date. We also run an all-breed site, TopK9s.com. We are also working on an iPhone and Android app that is the next step for BullyNet.

6) If you have the opportunity to say one last message to bulldog breeders today, what will you tell them? For years good breeders were against the internet to show off their dogs. I guess there was a negative perception that only puppy mills and bad breeders do that. Well, they have done that and the public doesn’t know any better and these unscrupulous breeders are benefit‑ ting and the breed is hurting because of it.
