3. Smack has been the number one bulldog in America accord2. Smack is a good boy!! How ing to canine chronicle ratings did it happen that he is handled for the last 3 months how does by Dennis O’Connor ? the ratings work ? Dennis O’Connor and his partner Matt Hawley showed our first bulldog and they did so well with Chiquis . I was just wanting to Finish her championship but they where doing so well they took her all the way to Bronze Grand Champion In such short amount of time and limited showing. Dennis suggested to me at the end of the year that we get a new special to campaign in 2016 to try and be Number One . We became excited with the idea since we are still new to the sport. So Dennis started to search for a dog for us he saw Smack and absolutely loved the dog . So he got in contact with the current owners to see if he was for sale and know more information on Smack he finished his championship in 3 weekends with all majors and that’s how Smack became a part of our lives . We

4. Where does your kennel name come from? My sister and I are the owners so we came up with a cool and fun name at the same time. 5. Name your favorite bulldog of all times and why? My favorite bulldog of all times would be GCH My Toy’s Epic Against The Wind . Why because he had a great show career and because i really like the dog . He was also breeder/owner handled . He is a MBIS winner and MBISS winner also 2012’s OFA’s champion of health

I prefer to show to good judges . There are great breeder judges and great all rounder judges.
No we have not sold puppies yet. We look forward to breeding Smack to Chiquis we are hoping to get show quality puppies . 7. Is Smack available for stud ? Yes Smack is available to approved bitch’s only. 8. In your opinion where will one find the best Bulldogs in the world ?

Smack is 2years and 3 months old . Yes he is still very young he still needs to mature he’s got a Well that’s a tough question because there’s are a lot of beautiful bright future ahead of him. In this issue we feature the Number 1 Bulldog in the USA - Smack (based on Canine Chronicle ratings). We have an interview with Taylor Bustamante (Diva Bulldogs) and Alecia Gibson. We also bring you the results of the 2016 Bulldog of The Year in Italy. There is a new superstar - Jenna! Congratulations to Elizabeth Hugo-Milam who has 3 new US Champions, Tuesday, Toni and Fireball! In Korea, Ch. Meljane King WIlliam has won another Best in Show, congratulations to the breeders and owners of this stunning dog! His brother Ch. Meljane King Edward won Best Opposite Bulldog of Year in Italy 2016. In Argentina, Bully Hills Breaking Bad “Khan� owned by Ivo Cappelli has won another Best in Show and is currently the Number 2 dog All Breeds! I trust you will enjoy this issue of BullishMagazine!

Interview with Alecia Gibson (USA) 1) When did you start with Bulldogs? I got my first pet Bulldog about 16 years ago when my daughter was two years old. We instantly fell in love with the breed and a couple of years later bought a female that I had hoped to show. Various circumstances got in the way of that dream for many years, but I was hooked. Both dogs were so incredible with my children, and were my daughter’s best friends growing up. While I’ve had and loved Bulldogs for many years, my real “beginning,” as far as showing, was with Gucci three years ago. I trained her in obedience, which she took to right away, and has earned her Canine Good Citizen (CGC), Canine Good Citizen Advanced (CGCA), Canine Good Citizen Urban (CGCU), Rally Novice (RN), Beginner Novice (BN), and Companion Dog (CD) titles. She was also my first show dog, and I learned to show with her. She is an incredible girl and is always so willing to please. She is the one who really got me hooked on showing.

2) I always enjoy your enthusiasm and the ads of Gucci and Guinness have become regular features of BullishMagazine. As a new person to the breed how difficult was it for you to find good quality dogs and what are the pitfalls you would warn other people who would like to buy a bulldog and start showing? Thank you Theo, we appreciate all of the support and encouragement from you and Bullish Magazine! I have very much enjoyed being a part of your lovely online publication! It was very difficult to get started, for many reasons. It is not easy for a new person to gain the attention and trust of a reputable breeder who is willing to entrust them with one of their show dogs or puppies. After years of trying, I finally made a connection with Shalisa Neely of Majestic Bulldogs. I met up with her at a few of the shows and really admired her dogs. After awhile she entrusted me with Gucci, who was almost 2 years old when I got her. I started showing her in obedience and conformation, and bred her to BISS BIS GCH Majestic I’m Her Man! and got (contined on page 79)

my first show puppy, and eventually champion and home bred champion, with Guinness. So I didn’t actually start with buying a puppy, which is just as well, because Gucci is my heart dog and I enjoy breeding and raising my own puppies. Shalisa provided me with a lot of mentoring and guidance, and we now co-own and co-breed. I could not have gotten started without her trust in me, and immense support along the way. I would encourage new people to be patient! It’s not easy to find and obtain a show potential puppy, nor to break into the show world. There is a lot to learn, so ask tons of questions from as many people who are willing to talk to you. Go to as many shows as you can and watch and learn from other handlers/exhibitors. I have learned so much from several breeders and exhibitors, who have also become friends. Read and study the standard, then read it some more! Find a mentor who is willing to share their knowledge and experience. Become a member of your local club and the Bulldog Club of America (if you’re in the U.S.). Be humble and willing to learn from others, and not afraid to make mistakes, because you’ll make many of them!!
There are no guarantees and I’ve learned that it takes a lot of hard work and perseverance. You have to be as tenacious as our Bulldogs!!\ While there are many potential pitfalls, I think the biggest one that most people fall into, myself included, is that of impatience... impatience in buying a puppy and ending up with something that is less than you had hoped for... impatience if you get a nice dog, in getting the dog to become a champion... etc. If you get lucky enough to obtain a nice dog or puppy, that is just the beginning. You have to train that puppy, and yourself, to show, which takes a lot of time, work, and money. Instant gratification is not likely to be had. Take your time, learn the ropes, and enjoy the ride!

3) Where does your kennel name came from? I went through a very difficult period of life years ago when I felt like God had abandoned me. One day the name just came to me, Agape Bulldogs, because His love was only evident to me through these dogs that I loved so much, and who loved me unselfishly in return. Agape is the Greek word for love at its ultimate. It is the most self-sacrificing love that there is. This type of love is the love that God has for His own children. That is what Bulldogs are to me... the ultimate form of love. 4) Guinness seems to be quite a character? Tell us more about this special dog! Guinness is a character indeed!! As my first show puppy, he is quite a spoiled brat, lol!! His favorite things to do are to flip over the loveseat, lay on the kitchen table, and play with his daddy! He is “all boy” and plays hard. He is sweet and loving, but also catlike and independent. Although he’s a big brute of a boy, he’s also very sensitive and a big baby. He has had to endure my many mistakes in learning to raise and show Bulldogs. He can be

a handful, but he has made me very proud and taught me a lot. Not only is he a Champion, and well on his way to becoming a Grand Champion, but he also has earned his Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title, and has passed all health screenings to date. He keeps me on my toes and makes me work for it though!
5) Name your favorite Bulldog of all times and why? That is a very hard question, there are SO many!! I don’t think I can say I have a “favorite,” but there are some I would very much like to see... selfishly those that often appear in my own dog’s pedigrees... CH Cherokee Legend Rock, CH Cherokee Legend Pretty Boy, CH Little Pond’s Chief, CH Adamant Warlock... to name a few.

I am fairly new to breeding show Bulldogs, but yes, I do sell puppies on limited registration with spay/neuter contracts. I have a short waiting list for puppies, not nearly as long as those who have been in the breed a long time, as I’m still establishing a reputation and making connections with people. I am breeding first for myself and my next show hopeful, but I do enjoy being a part of the families that my puppies go to, and seeing the joy that is brought into their lives. I enjoy sharing my love and passion for the breed with others, and there are few things as heartwarming as seeing your babies in loving homes. I wouldn’t be opposed to selling or co-owning a show puppy/dog that I bred, I just haven’t reached that point as of yet. You really can’t go wrong with a great pet home.
Because I’m addicted! I went to a university where the Bulldog was the mascot, so that’s where the interest began. They are just the best breed for me! They bring me immense joy and amusement every day. No matter what you’re going through in life, a Bulldog is sure to cheer you up with their quirky ways. I love their tenacity, they never give up, which is a good way to live. Set your sights on something and don’t let anything deter you! I love every little thing about them, and don’t think I could even sleep without the peaceful chorus of their snoring. To me, they are love and they are my life. 9) Specialist or all rounder judge?
7) In your opinion where will one find the best bulldogs in the world? I can’t fairly answer that question, as I’ve only seen U.S. Bulldogs in person, other than my first girl who was imported from Russia. Bullish has advertise-
I think both have their place, and there are good and bad of both, as with anything. While I’m still learning, I don’t limit myself and gladly show to both. I pay attention to how they judge and what style they pick, and

Whether I win under them or not, if they are fair and consistent I will show to them again. 10) Where to from here in your breeding program?
I have big goals for myself that I hope to achieve in time. I will continue to listen and learn and hopefully make good choices with good results! Health testing is very important to me, so I will strive to breed the healthiest dogs that I can through the screening of my breeding stock.
I hope to improve with each litter I breed. I have a good foundation now, but still have a lot to learn.
