Quick wins We know it can be difficult to put together a chic professional look early in the morning, so bear these quick win points in mind... • • • • •
Avoid anything that will offend – no logos, phrases or pictures If you have worn it to a club, it’s probably not right for the office Avoid revealing too much skin Flip flops, swim shorts and beach wear are not appropriate – this is for your safety Please make sure your underwear is not on show

Trousers • •
Chinos, cords, culottes and tailored trousers are all fine as long as they are smart and not ripped, baggy, faded or low slung Leggings on their own and combat trousers are off limits
Shorts Tailored shorts are ok to wear in the Summer but you need to make sure that they are not shorter than just above the knee. Please see page 10 for more information June 2017

Tops Smart shirts
• Shirts, blouses, pullovers and tops with collars are all fine as long as they are smart but avoid any of the following: Logo’s, images, low necklines, ripped and distressed fabrics, cropped lengths, hoodies, strapless, revealing or sheer materials and definitely no visible underwear • T-shirts are not allowed unless they have a collar • Ties are optional Please note that some of these rules are relaxed on Dress Down Day

Skirts and dresses The quick win rule is to ask yourself if its appropriate for a business environment. Is it too tight? Is it too short?
• Please make sure your skirt looks professional and the length isn’t too short; anything just above the knee or longer is acceptable • Ra-ra and body con skirts are inappropriate • Leggings worn along with a skirt or dress is fine

Footwear • •
Smart shoes, boots and heels are fine. This is relaxed on Dress Down Day, please see slide 10 for more information Make sure whatever you wear is safe for a busy working environment
Q: Does that include Converse? A: Well, as much as they look great out of work, we’d prefer the look to be more professional please, unless it’s Dress Down Day!

Q: Can I wear wellies? A: Not in the office, but you can travel in them and change in the office facilities.

What never to wear • • • • • • • •
Hats (only religious headwear is acceptable in the workplace) UGG boots and flip flops Sportswear i.e. tracksuit bottoms and tops Ripped clothes – even on dress down day, you should not be wearing ripped clothing. Football shirts – new or vintage, no matter how much you love them! Fancy Dress Costumes Rollers in your hair and other unprofessional accessories Over the top jewellery - no bling, bling

Are there any exceptions on dress down day?
Yes. Your jeans and trainers are allowed an outing, to see what you do in the office. But remember, respect your colleagues and make sure its appropriate and smart casual. June 2017

Can the dress code be relaxed in the summer weather? Tailored shorts are ok to wear but you need to make sure that they are not shorter than just above the knee. Everyone needs to maintain a professional image. These are guidelines; however, if your manager expresses concern that you are not smart then their advice/guidance needs to be followed.

Hair colour, piercing and tattoos
Extreme hair colour is not allowed and, where possible, tattoos and piercings should be kept to a minimum and covered up, if considered inappropriate/ offensive. Examples of inappropriate tattoos are political symbols, offensive language and unsuitable slogans or images. If you are planning a new tattoo and unsure if it’s suitable for the workplace, please speak to your manager.

And if you can’t decide‌ Please refer to the quick wins on page 4. If you need clarification, please speak to your line manager before wearing it to the office Be safe rather than sorry because if the smart casual dress code is not adhered to or regularly broken, you may need to go home to change into something appropriate. Further down the line, it could lead to disciplinary action.
