Student Engagement and Advancement Fund Launched by a Maserati Raffle

n 1973, as part of the School’s annual benefit – then called “Evening in Monte Carlo” – there was a raffle for a Cadillac de Ville. For the first few years of the School just opening, the annual benefit was for covering the School’s operational expenses and payroll through the rest of the school year. Times have changed, but in celebration of O’Neal soon to celebrate 50 years and the nostalgia of the past, a raffle for a Maserati is underway for the purpose of the new Student Engagement and Advancement Fund. The Student Engagement and Advancement Fund (SEA) has been established to provide grants for O’Neal teachers to develop significant, educational experiences for their students. From the fund, four grants will be awarded each year ranging from $2,000-$5,000 with at least one grant going to each division. Grants can be used to provide professional development, travel, equipment, and more. In addition, the grant funds can be used to pay the recipients for the time spent working on the project. There is an application process as well as a selection committee to award the grants. The first grants will be awarded this spring.

The Raffle Only 500 tickets will be sold at $250 each. Ticket sales close on Thursday, March 5th. The drawing will take place at O’Neal’s Annual Benefit on Friday, March 6th. All money collected from the raffle will be awarded by way of grants and none will be held back for endowment. One does not have to be present to win. The winner is responsible for taxes, tags, title, documentation, and insurance. Federal/state income taxes are responsibility of the winner. No cash will be awarded in lieu of the vehicle. An ID is required to claim the prize.

“Thanks to the O’Neal Development Committee, Board of Trustees and Scotland Motors, we look forward to supporting O’Neal’s teachers Some teachers have shared how they may use a grant if awarded one. in this way for years to come,” remarks Head of School John Elmore. Professional development prevails. Example workshops and sessions would be: National Council for the Social Studies Annual Meeting, Mindset Mathematics Institute at Stanford University, Exeter Math Institute at Phillips Exeter, the Stanford History Education Group Summer Session.

Educational sessions offered from Learning and the Brain® such as Schooling Social Brains: Promoting Social Skills, Interactions, and Collaborations in a Digital Age – New York and Educating Anxious Brains: Creating Calm, Connected, Mindful and Trauma-Sensitive Schools- San Francisco. “Helping children to thrive in today’s world can be a challenge. With the technological pressures and increased instances of disorders such as ADHD, children need more support now than ever. We teachers want to equip ourselves with every tool possible to guide our students towards resiliency, stress management and the cultivation of a stress-free environment to thrive in. This seminar would be a wonderful place to find the tools we are looking for,” says Third Grade Teachers Bree Hubbard and Lindsey Imbs. The Car Graciously provided by Scotland Motors of Laurinburg, this 2015 Maserati GHIBLI Base Model is a brown sedan with an automatic transmission and a twin-turbo V6 engine providing plenty of power for passing and merging.
