Our lives today demand compromise. We understand that. After all, isn’t balance the key to a healthy life? What is worrisome though, is the extent to which we have ended up normalising compromise – right down to the very basics. In the food we eat, the shampoos we buy, the detergents we use to wash our clothes. Whether its pesticide residues on our fruits and vegetables or parabens in our shampoos that are harmful for marine life – they have slipped through the cracks and become part of our compromised existence. But this is not how it always was, was it? Think back to maybe a couple of decades ago -when you were growing up. Clean food wasn’t trending on social media then, it was a way of life. Hand-churned ghee wasn’t a novelty then, it was the norm. And that’s what we, at The Organic World, want to bring back. The essence of wholesome living. Going back to those traditional foods and traditional processes that naturally allowed us to lead a better life. Giving you that better choice. It’s time for you to reclaim your freedom. Freedom from harmful chemicals, freedom from compromising. The opportunity to choose, to make decisions that are in the best interests for you and your family. So just how can you reclaim your freedom? The answer lies in becoming aware. Aware of just what we are eating and using. Aware of what goes into them. Aware of the processes involved in making them. Aware of the compromise we make when we choose them for ourselves and our family. And then making that informed, mindful choice. And we are here to support those better choices; to empower you for them. We understand what it takes to create that better tomorrow. To this end we have taken a stand. A strong, industry-first stand as a Responsible Retailer. We have created a NOT IN OUR AISLE LIST - a list of ingredients that are commonly found across most products at your regular grocers and supermarkets - but NOT in those at The Organic World. This list has been created after extensive research and currently contains 25 such ingredients - but it is ever expanding. We want to ensure that EVERY product you see on the shelves of The Organic World is a healthier and safer alternative than its conventional counterpart.
The list includes sodium benzoate which is found in carbonated drinks, pickles, salad dressing, fruit juices and condiments; high fructose corn syrup found in soda, juice, candy, breakfast cereals and packaged snacks; artificial flavourings/colours found in most snacks and packaged foods; TBHQ found in biscuits, microwave popcorn, butter substitutes and chicken nuggets; Carrageenan found in cottage cheese, ice cream and vegan dairy substitutes, and so on. Our ‘better choices’ range is carefully curated - a line up of healthier products whether it is organic, natural, pesticide-free or toxin-free. Our fruits and vegetables are sourced from 100% organic farms. Your pantry staples from atta, dal and chawal to oils and ghee are made with the goodness of traditional processes like cold-pressing and are chemical- and preservative-free. Our homecare products don’t contain toxins, chemicals or acids. Our skincare products are free of parabens and sulfates. We are a work in progress. But we have made a start. One product at a time. One choice at a time. To help empower you to make that better choice and reclaim your freedom. www.theorganicworld.com
HEALTHY FESTIVAL CELEBRATIONS With the festival season beckoning, it’s time to start planning for the celebrations. And can any such occasion be complete without food? Worried about over indulging with all the sweets and fried food that are inevitable at this time? Here are our top tips on healthy festive celebrations.
OPT FOR HOMEMADE OR ORGANIC SNACKS AND SWEETS Have you noticed the ingredients used in the popular snacks brand you picked up? Or what the nutritional table looks like? Chances are you will see refined flour, high amounts of salt and sugar as well as trans fat. Instead, make your own snacks where you can use the best quality ingredients and fresh oils. Or you can choose organic snacks from brands like Wellbe, made with healthy ingredients like red rice flour and cold pressed oil, with zero maida! USE HEALTHY INGREDIENTS One of the biggest indulgences during this time are sweets. Too much refined sugar has a negative impact on the immune system. Regulate your intake of sweets - never go for the extra one! When you make sweets at home use healthier sugar substitutes like honey, jaggery or dates. Opt for alternative flours like amaranth, almond, buckwheat, chickpea etc over refined flour. ALWAYS THINK OF THE BETTER CHOICE Snacking while chatting with friends? Carrot, cucumber and celery sticks with a dip over a bowl of deep fried crisps. Roasted papad over deep fried ones. Dry fruits are another healthier snacking option. STAY HYDRATED Make sure your hydration game is on point. Avoid carbonated drinks. Opt for fresh juices instead. EAT BALANCED MEALS Try and ensure you get your proper intake of protein, carbs and fibre through the day. Overate at lunch? Opt for a simple dinner instead! Remember, balance is the key.

KNOW YOUR FARM www.theorganicworld.com
Thally, near Hosur in Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu
HISTORY Mapletree farm was started in 2016 as a joint effort by ex Infosys co-founder and CEO SD Shibulal, his wife Kumari Shibulal and ex OnMobile founder and CEO Mouli Raman. Currently around 90+ people work in the farms and warehouses. The lead farmer is G Natesh, a former Income Tax officer with a passion for organic farming. The entire farm is spread across three locations, a few kilometers apart and also houses greenhouses and nurseries, apart from animal shelters, which are home to desi cows and calves, hens and roosters. WHAT WAS OUR GOAL BEHIND STARTING MAPLETREE FARM? The overarching goal of Mapletree Farm was to grow nutritionally-rich, safe and 100% organic food and make it accessible to all. Mapletree was founded on the tenets of clean, regenerative farming, which prioritises soil health - restoring and replenishing soil with natural nutrients and growing produce on the soil that is organic in the true sense of the word. Other objectives include: - Provide adequate training and education to young upcoming farmers from nearby villages in order to introduce them to the benefits and importance of sustainable farming practices - Build farms that combine the best of scientific as well as organic farming practices. FARMING PHILOSOPHY: Mapletree Farm is based on a foundation of healthy soil and a concerted effort was made towards this end, involving time, adequate monetary resources as well as the required research. As a result of all these efforts, Mapletree
is today one of the pioneers in organic farming in the country and a model template. When you choose Mapletree, you are choosing a partner who has invested years in ensuring what reaches your plate is 100% organic, flavourful and grown with hard work. Every farmer who works at Mapletree, who tills the soil, weeds, sows, makes plant beds, makes compost and adds the compost truly believes in the virtues of these organic farming practices. When you eat our fruits and vegetables, you will feel the tangible difference in the flavour. We encourage you to visit our farm and learn about how your food is grown. Understand how the money you spend on the produce is invested back to the farmers and into soil health. This in turn gets translated into healthier produce for you. WHAT DO WE GROW? Over 60 varieties of vegetables and fruits, including potatoes, onion, tomatoes, beans, lady finger, cabbage, cauliflower, pumpkin, gourds, a wide variety of greens like spinach, chard , amaranth, fenugreek, lettuce, and fruits like watermelons, papayas and bananas. WE FOLLOW A DIRECT TO CUSTOMER MODEL, where the vegetables from our farm reach the customers homes within 15 hours of harvest. Our well-trained team works swiftly to clean, sort, grade, pack and load the produce in our delivery vans, which are then dispatched to fulfill your orders - Monday to Saturday! Ruby’s Organics range of products have been specifically designed to suit Indian tones and textures. Using only organic and natural ingredients, their products are completely free of chemical preservatives.
TOW: Can you tell us a bit about your brand journey - what was your goal behind starting the brand? RUBY’S ORGANICS: The idea behind Ruby’s was simply born out of a need for creating ‘healthier makeup’ in India. In my early 20s, just as most girls, I was a huge cosmetics’ enthusiast. Little did I know I would wind up on the receiving end of some harsh skin outbreaks. I was determined to find healthier alternatives to common synthetic ingredients found in regular makeup brands. What started as a kitchen experiment, eventually became a full-blown makeup range. After a lot of time spent in research and development, we managed to develop makeup staples without the use of alcohol, chemical preservatives, silicones, petrochemicals, and heavy metals. The vision was simply to create a line of “healthy makeup”. We found simple and clean alternatives to synthetic ingredients that are much safer substitutes, and we want to continue to innovate and develop cosmetics like these to cater to the conscious consumer.
TOW: What is your brand philosophy? What separates you from the clutter? RO: Ruby’s was born out of a need to fill in the gap for healthy makeup products in India. We want to revolutionize the way women use makeup by introducing an entire range of clean and green makeup products, specifically for Indian skin tones and textures. Our makeup looks and feels as good as your regular makeup and lasts as long. But our range is about ‘value added skincare’. All our ingredients comprise natural oils like jojoba and almond, natural waxes and butters, and kaolin clay. Our products are mostly oil based; if they were water based, it would call for more preservation. We have a base range of about 16 pigments, and we play around with proportions to get various shades TOW: Can you tell us a bit about the product assortment you offer? RO: We have developed an entire range of makeup products ranging from lipsticks, crème blushes, highlighters, bronzer, liquid eyeshadows, concealer/foundations , kohl pencil , mascara and are soon going to launch lip cremes and new colors in our liquid eyeshadows . TOW: What are your future plans with the brand? RO: We are soon launching more colors in our liquid eyeshadow range and will also have some new product launches in our lip and face category. We know our makeup well and we would like to expand within its periphery for now. Skin and hair care will soon follow. TOW: What does partnering with a retailer like The Organic World with an industry-first ‘Not In Our Aisle’ list of banned chemicals and ingredients mean to you? RO: It gives us immense happiness to collaborate with retailers like The Organic World who share similar brand philosophy and help us to spread a word about our products and what we stand for. We hope that together we help consumers to make a sustainable choice .

Masala powders are an integral part of any Indian kitchen. No dish is complete with rich and aromatic Indian spice mixes. At Wellbe, we decided to foray into Masala Powders after we noticed a clear gap in the availability of pure and authentic Masala Powders. While you do see plenty of products in this space, most of the products offered in the segment are loaded with artificial colours and flavours. Long-term usage of these products could have adverse health effects and they definitely do not enhance the flavour or aroma of the dish they are being used in. What sets Wellbe Masala Powders apart from the others? Why should a consumer choose Wellbe Masala Powders? Wellbe Masala Powders are made with handpicked spices that are organically grown without the use of any chemicals and pesticides. We follow only authentic recipes and ensure the spices are combined with the right balance and blend. All Wellbe Masala powders are hand made in a very hygienic manner without giving any room for adulteration. Wellbe Masala Powders powders do not contain any artificial flavours and artificial colours, and are completely free from preservatives. Open a packet and savour the rich aroma of our authentic spice mixes. Filled with rich natural taste, they add a deep flavour to any dish, enhancing the taste profile.

RUQAIYAH
from sisters in sweat AGE, 24 : CHEF I could be the most reserved person or the most goofy person in the room. You would find me either in a hot kitchen making Thai green curry as a chef or on the sports field as an athlete or a striker. I have a Diploma in culinary arts and have interned at JW Marriott Bangalore. I am also a former professional athlete who took part in triple jump at various levels. I’ve tried exploring various sports like Muay Thai, a combat sport, and mountain climbing in the Himalayas. I get my strength from my God and parents. I like to challenge myself to do things that
I strongly dislike rather than disregarding them. Ever since I was a child my parents made sure that I played and participated in different sports. They said they saw me at my happiest and most confident when it came to fitness. Wellness and fitness plays a very crucial role in my daily life. Fitness has been a massive support to me. It’s made me try new things I’ve never imagined in my life and made me overcome extremely difficult situations mentally and physically. As for self care, I’ve been working on eating clean, being off social media more often (I was off for 2 years) and trying to do things that make me happy.
