THE PURPOSE OF THIS WORKBOOK

This workbook is an extension of my book, The Men of Genesis. My goal for both books is for the user to gain greater knowledge of the book of Genesis - where it all began and the strength and endurance of the men whose faith in the Lord helped them overcome obstacles.

I've been teaching Sunday school for nearly twelve years. It's wonderful to meet new students at the beginning of every school year. When I hold up God's Word - the Bible - it brings joy to tell the class that "this is the best book you will ever read." Whether one is twelve years old or seventy years old, the Bible is indeed the roadmap for and the inspiration to living a godly life. And the starting point of the roadmap is the book of Genesis. More specifically, Genesis 1:1.

Can you cherry pick which stories you want to read in Genesis? Maybe skip the Creation? Or avoid the conversations that Adam and Eve had with the evil serpent and with God? Or perhaps just gloss over Noah and the Great Flood? What about Abraham's display of obedience to God with his son Isaac? If you skim over these or other stories in Genesis or even worse - don't read the book at all - how will you understand and appreciate the grace and the love that God has for each and everyone of us? How will you gain a greater picture of what God has done for His people throughout the Old and New Testaments without reading the verses that grace the pages of the Bible?

It is hoped that as you work on completing this workbook, you will have a greater understanding and appreciation of what true faith in the Lord means. While The Men of Genesis and this workbook focus on the first book of the Bible, it is my desire that you will get to know more about God by reading further in the Bible, learning how He freed His people in the book of Exodus, how He helped Joshua and the Israelites take down the walls of Jericho, how He delivered David "from the hand of this Philistine" (Goliath), how, through Jesus, God Himself would come among us, and how Jesus' death on the cross saved us from our sins. God has blessed us in many ways!

Blessings,

1. How many days did it take God to create the heavens and the earth?

4. Why did God create Man?

Did you know:

Water, water everywhere! During the first two days of Creation, the earth consisted of nothing but water. Of course, that changed on Day Three. Today, over six thousand years later, we know this about our earth (via the US Geological Survey):

Water covers nearly three-fourths of the world's surface.

The five oceans (Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Arctic, and Antarctic) comprise the bulk of the earth's water - approximately 95 percent.

Just under two percent of the Earth's water is comprised of the ice caps, glaciers, and permanent snow. BUT these water sources make up over two-thirds of the Earth's freshwater.

Genesis 6:19

2. Who was Noah's grandfather?

How long did he live?

4. The people in the town helped Noah build the Ark?

True or False

(circle one)

5. How big was the Ark?

6. Who went on the Ark?

Think About It

A warning system that a storm is approaching is meant to give people time to get out of the storm's path. Days or even hours before a major weather storm is expected to hit a location on its path, the weather service issues a warning to those potentially in harm's way. In doing so, the people expected to be impacted by the storm have enough time to escape the dangers associated with the storm. Many didn't listen. The National Hurricane Center reports that 88 percent of deaths resulting from storms such as hurricanes are from "storm surge, rainfall flooding, and high surf." Those living during Noah's time had a chance to repent of their sins and get on board the Ark with Noah, but they ignored the warning and perished.

According to BibleRef, Canaanites may have used such a tree to communicate with their gods. Abraham possibly came to this tree to hear from the Lord, which he did. Read Genesis 12:7.

The prophet Isaiah furthered the good news in Isaiah 52:7: "How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who proclaims peace, who brings glad tidings of good things." THE MEN OF GENESIS TAKE AWAYS THE OUTTOP LLC

From the beginning to the end of Genesis, we not only read about it but sense it as well in the words the love that God has for His creation - man. Below are some take aways from the men inside Genesis.

THERE IS ONLY ONE GOD

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

Genesis 1:1

FAITH IS CRITICAL

"Behold the proud, his soul is not upright in him; but the just shall live by his faith.

Habakkuk 2:4

To live by faith - being faithful to God - means trusting in God during both the peaks and the valleys of life. No where is this illustrated more in the Bible than in the book of Genesis where men trusted God. And God was faithful to mankind.

GIVE IT TO THE LORD

Noah worked so diligently in getting the Ark built, regardless of the verbal harassment he took. Joseph gave his concerns to the Lord who had his back.

WRESTLING WITH GOD

We are in Genesis 32, beginning

with verse 24. Jacob is alone, his family already sent ahead of him. Suddenly, "a Man wrestled with Him." The limp incurred by Jacob would be a constant reminder of Jacob's dependence on God.

NOTHING IS HIDDEN

God is all-knowing. There is nothing that we do or say that the Lord doesn't already know. Hebrews 4:13 says "Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

THOU SHALT NOT COVET

Jealousy is never a pretty picture. We should refrain from acting like Joseph's brothers. The Tenth Commandment says "You shall not covet." The second greatest commandment for us to follow is to "love thy neighbor as yourself."

The Men of Genesis Workbook - Page 43

THANK YOU!

Thank you for purchasing this workbook. It is hoped that you will have greater knowledge of the first book of the Bible including God's plan for redemption through Jesus Christ. As Joseph Farah points out in his book, The Gospel in Every Book of the Old Testament, "God walking in the garden? Yes, He does, when He comes as God's only begotten Son, Jesus, who, we are also told in John 1:3, is the One who made heaven and earth - and all things that were made......God, from the very beginning, had already laid out His plan of redemption." The book of Genesis is where it all begins. It starts at Genesis 1:1.

There is no greater book to read than God's Word!
