Dream big, run fast in memory of Joe On Saturday, May 9, the Roseville Community Schools Scholarship Foundation (RCSSF) will have their second annual Dream Dash fundraiser. A few changes have been made to the event this year, with the most notable one being change of the name. In honor of Joseph Manfreda, who ran 1st in last year’s Dream Dash, the event will from this year forward be known as the Joe Manfreda Dream Dash. “I feel very proud and very honored,” Shannon Hoffman said about the fact that the fundraiser will be named after her son. “I have been practicing a lot for the run, and I actually Emilie Windelin Staff Reporter

have pretty much my entire family coming in from out of state and they will all either be walking or running.” Another change is that this year’s race will be timed, by Hanson’s Running Shop. The main goal of the fundraiser is to raise money for students pursuing higher education, and that is reached by accepting donations and a small registration fee from runners. Therefore, the price to participate is $25 including a t-shirt if you sign up in advance, and $30 the day of the race. Registrations start at 9am, and continue until the gun goes off at 10am. The run is a 5k course (3.1 miles), which you can either choose to

walk or run. However, if you are not interested in participating in the run itself, RCSSF is still looking for volunteers to help hand out t-shirts, show the runners the way along the route and much more. “I think Joey would be so proud to see the way everyone is still supporting him. When he started running, he really came out of his shell and that is when he started getting a passion for everything he did in life,” Hoffman said. For more information and signup sheets, visit www.rcs.misd.net or pick up a sheet in the Main Office. Go help out a great cause, Roseville, in memory of a remarkable student and friend.

of them are killed, but you are just injured. How are you going to explain to four families that you were driving under the influence and killed their family member, even if they were under the influence as well? Now you can be convicted for a DUI, underage drinking and four deaths on the count of you.

The car on the RHS lot represents the outcome of dangerous decisions.

In 2010, 211 teens were killed due to drunk driving; 62% of them were passengers. Losing a family member or a close friend is hard enough; envision losing one to something like drunk driving and it was not their fault. Imagine going to a party with your friend and you are all drinking, the party ends and now it is time to go home, but you do not make it there. Let’s say you crash and you are the driver, with four passengers and the four

To drink and drive alone is horrible enough, but to put other innocent lives in your hands as well is pathetic. Life is already too short, and for a life to be taken because of someone else’s mistakes is just ridiculous. Passengers that are aware of the driver being drunk are just as guilty as the driver. To get in the car knowing that they are drunk or have been drinking, is basically asking for something bad to happen, whether it is an

On May 15, Roseville Community Schools invite you all to their yearly Family Fun Night. It will be a night full of fun activities for all ages. The night is geared mainly towards preschool and elementary school-aged students, but anyone is welcome. There will be snacks, inflatables, carnival games, prizes and a petting zoo, mostly donated by our local businesses and private donors. It goes on from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, and admission is absolutely free. So come and enjoy a fun night with your family.

There is nothing that can justify drinking and driving, and if you are around someone drinking and they are trying to drive somewhere, take their keys and call them a cab. Or even let them stay the night with you, a night of them sleeping there or catching a cab late in the night is much better and way more safe, than to them to drink and drive.

RHS seniors prep for prom Kiara Fluker Prom Staff Reporter is one of

many exciting things about high school. Even though it can be really expensive, it is one of the most memorable events of one’s life. Prom is now days away, and some RHS seniors are ready for the big day. After prom, there is graduation, then everyone goes their separate ways in life with different destinations. “Prom has been very, very stressful,” senior Ashley Jackson said. “I’m taking my favorite cousin with me to prom and we’re wearing light peach. Prom is something I always couldn’t wait to attend, but the closer it gets the sadder I am that my dad is not here to see his baby go off to prom and open a new chapter in my life. R.I.P.” Jackson said. “I’m wearing red to prom, but actually finding the perfect red dress has been very stressful,” senior Lexie Griffith said. “Wearing makeup and dressing re-

ally pretty is something I’m used to, but to be doing it for prom is an even better feeling. I’m not going with anyone, but it is okay prom is not at all necessary to have a date, I can look beautiful alone, plus I have my friends. It has been a very nerve wracking, but great experience so far. I love dressing up and I cannot wait until the day arrives” Griffith said. “Prom was the easiest thing ever” senior Andrew Paton said. “I am going with Matthew Pilotto and my tuxedo is blue.” Paton said. “Prom has been really stressful at times, but it will all be worth it” senior Arieanna Rickle said. “My date, who is also my lovely boy friend, Jordan Richards, and I are wearing aqua to prom” Rickle said. Other events such as: homecoming, athletic events, and pep rallies happen every year of high school, but prom is a once in a lifetime occurrence that seniors hope to remember forever.
