Teacher Throwback 9 Teacher Advice Mr. Smitka- “So, you’re a senior, and you’re graduating. Wahoo! Enjoy your summer, have fun with your friends, but guess what? Life is just starting for you. High school…bah, that was the easy part. Many of you will go on to further your education in college…prepare yourself for a future career. Don’t let that overwhelm you…my advice to you: When you get to college, get involved. It’s too big of an adventure to sit at home and become a bookworm. Now, yes, it’s important to study hard and to get good grades, but there is definitely an advantage to the social aspects of college as well. Join a club, rush a fraternity or sorority, become part of a student organization, play intramural sports…do something. High school, yes, those four years were fun, but you have a world of opportunity ahead of you. In these next few years, you will shape who you will become. College becomes a place where you can be you…and if you’re willing to step out of your comfort zone a little, it will let you become a better you: ready to take on the world as a successful adult one day. You’ll walk out of college, not only with a wealth of information crammed into your head, but hopefully great memories and worthwhile experiences that influenced you in many positive ways. Good luck and congrats on graduating seniors, because your life is just getting started. Do not waste it.”
