Rain dampens, delays parade plans, not holiday spirit

With rain in the forecast, the decision was made to split the largest Christmas kick-off in Miami County into two events. The Peru Christmas parade, courthouse display lighting and Downtown Christmas Open House were set to take place Wednesday, Nov. 17. Paul Forman, organizer for Light Up! Peru, made the difficult decision to delay the parade and courthouse lighting until Saturday, Nov. 20. The Downtown Christmas Open House still took place Wednesday and participating businesses were given the opportunity to open up again Saturday, Nov. 20 as well. In the photo above, a little girl sat on Santa’s lap to tell him what she wants for Christmas. Santa’s house is located on the Southwest side of the Miami County Courthouse. In the photo on the right, Downtown Christmas Open House attendees stopped to admire the lights at 2 Days Boutique, 1 South Broadway, Peru. The raindrops made the lights appear infinite.
