athletes who shine on sidelines Peru High School hosts banquet for squad

They are the ones on the sidelines cheering for the team. They memorize cheers, chants and perform stunts. Handsprings and back tucks are a way to show support for those hustling on the field or the court. They work with the band and cheer block to create an atmosphere of excitement and support for their Tiger teams. They are the athletes who shine on the sidelines. An awards banquet was held to honor the Peru High School Cheerleaders, Saturday, April 9. Those in attendance were the Peru High School Cheerleading team, parents/grandparents, siblings, Coach Becky Ulery, and Coach Autumn Nero. Several awards were presented to members of the cheerleading team at the banquet for various accomplishments. Junior Varsity pins were awarded to: Mackenzie John, Melissa Culzac, Sophia Rygiec, Miguel Sebastian, Kenzie Wilkinson, Audrey Turner, and Rilei Boggs. Varsity chevrons were presented to: Molly Makowski, Clair Prior, Madi Nero, Addy Pegg, Cadence Korba, Logan White, Jordyn Ulery, Eve Uttinger, Aria Korba and Makayla Dominique. The Junior Varsity Team Captain Star pin was presented to Sophomore, Melissa Culzac. Coach Ulery said, “Not only the leader for her squad, on more times than I can count, Melissa jumped in to help out Varsity during practices, stepping in for someone who was absent. She also dressed for Varsity on a few occasions to fill

Has many years of experience, very talented and spirited, choreographed dances, and always willing to teach stunting or material,” Coach Ulery said. Coach Ulery emphasized to the ladies how much their education was in addition to being a cheerleader for their school. “I always tell them, ‘Above all else, school is most important. Academic Recognition certificates (Top 30% and 3.4 GPA) were presented to: Senior Clair Prior, Junior Mackenzie John, Freshmen Audrey Turner, Miguel Sebastian, and Kenzie Wilkinson.
