FAST FORWARD: MODERN MOMENTS 3
Modern Moments 1913>>>2013
If you haven’t seen the new “Fast Forward: Modern Moments 1913 ›› 2013″ exhibit at the High Museum there’s still time! The exhibition presents 164 works of art from 105 artists created during the years: 1913, 1929, 1950, 1961, and 1988, as well as the art of today. The exhibition examines the years prior to the start of World War I and the Great Depression, the lead-up to postwar American prosperity and the years preceding the Cuban Missile Crisis, the fall of the Berlin Wall and how artists responded to and were influenced by events on the world stage. The exhibition also presents the works of contemporary artists Aaron Curry, Katharina Grosse, and Sarah Sze, whose work extends themes first explored in the 20th century and updates them for the 21st century.

“Fast Forward: Modern Moments 1913 ›› 2013” is one of the largest surveys of 20thcentury art to ever be exhibited in the southeastern United States. Co-organized by the High Museum of Art and The Museum of Modern Art, New York (MoMA), as part of the two museums’ ongoing collaboration, the exhibition will be on view from Oct. 13, 2012, through Jan. 20, 2013.
1913: Umberto Boccioni’s Futurist sculpture “Unique Forms of Continuity in Space” 1929: Salvador Dalí’s Surrealist painting “Illumined Pleasures” 1950: Willem de Kooning’s landmark of Abstract Expressionism, “Woman, I” 1961: Roy Lichtenstein’s Pop art masterpiece “Girl With Ball”
We truly are lucky to have a museum like the High in Atlanta. They continue to strive for a diverse array of art, culture, videos, and events to present to the public. It seems like every few months they’re collaborating with another museum to “wow” us yet again with their creativity. We definitely suggest you see this exhibit. It will be at the High until January 20th. For more info click HERE
The exhibition includes iconic works from each represented year, including:
1988: Jeff Koons’s famed porcelain sculpture “Pink Panther”

I saw the trailer for Argo on Apple’s “Front Row” app and decided to check it out. If you aren’t familiar with the story it’s about 6 Americans who are working overseas in Iran. During the Iranian revolution American Embassy workers get kidnapped and the only ones who manage to escape are the 6 that you follow in the movie. Being American is tough during these times as the Iranians shared much disgust with our country. So the CIA relies on a crafty idea from Tony Mendez (Ben Affleck) to go into Iran disguised as Canadian filmmakers. The plan is to go into Iran under the guise of looking for locations to finish their sci-fi movie thriller. Meanwhile the 6 Americans that avoided capture are hiding in the care of Canadians. You may recognize some other familiar faces in the film such as Zeljko Ivanek, John Goodman, and Tate Donovan. Since the story is about 1 plan that’s based off a true story it takes awhile to get to the action. 70% of the movie is about strategy, planning, and giving insight into what went on behind the scenes during this stressful and tragic time just a few decades ago. But when it’s “go time” they do an excellent job building up suspense and keeping it high. This is a movie worth going to the theatre to see. But like previously stated, it’s going to take a good hour or so to get into any serious action. But if you can be patient and hold out until they execute their plan, it will be well worth your wait! 8.5 out of 10. *Image from indiewire.com All content and images are property of The Peach Review™ unless otherwise noted

We recently saw the movie Flight and we’re happy to say it was a good one. Flight (directed byRobert Zemeckis) takes us on a first person experience of an airline flight gone horribly wrong. We’re also happy to say that the movie was far different from what any of us had previously expected. Whip Whitaker (Denzel Washington) is a pilot from Atlanta who’s aviation history runs deep within his family. On a routine work day he takes flight from Orlando to Atlanta in inclement weather but manages to make it through. When disaster strikes (a malfunction with the plane) Whip Whitaker takes the lead with copious instructions and maneuvers not for the weak of heart. Through his instructions he was able to save the plane and about 97% of the passengers. The twist comes with the not so subtle drinking that takes place between the beginning of the movie and the flight departure. Which eventually leads to the investigation by the NTSB which results in the discovery of drugs and alcohol within “somebody’s” blood stream. The events throughout the movie were unpredictable, which is what kept our interest. The Christian overtones were quite a surprise (but fine by me) and the many discussions of divine intervention and blessings continued as Whip’s attorney (Don Cheadle) explains to him “It’s not anybody else Whip, it’s you. We ran the same simulation with other pilots and you know what? They all crashed and everybody died.” I myself was pleasantly surprised to see Ellen Block (Melissa Leo) from HBO’s Treme, Deana (Garcelle Beauvais) who I haven’t seen since the Jaimie Foxx Show (oh the memories), and 2 of Atlanta’s very own Michael Beasley (who we’ve featured a few times in our magazine and blog. In this film he was Officer Edmonds, he recently starred in Steel Magnolias) and Steve Coulter (who played an NTSB Officer, was also in The Hunger Games). I know a lot has been summarized but there’s still a lot more to this film. It was well written and Denzel did a fantastic job playing the role of Whip Whitaker. It’s a tad over 2 hours long so make sure you’re fully energized before you watch. This is a movie worth the price of admission so don’t hesitate to go see it this weekend! 9 out of 10. Recently we saw a movie called Arbitrage starring Richard Gere and Susan Sarandon and it was pretty good! The movie was aptly titled as the term is defined as the simultaneous buying and selling of securities, currency, or commodities in different markets in order to take advantage of differing prices (Ah yes stock market jargon!). We think it qualifies as a movie that ‘flew under the radar’ because over the course of 2 weeks we could only count 3 commercials we saw promoting the film. But in its defense we first heard of the film 3 months ago on Front Row for the Mac (an app that let’s you view movies that are coming out). Robert Miller (Richard Gere) is a hedge fund magnate who was known for making incredible gains within his scope. But it was the one investment he made outside of his specialty that was his greatest downfall. Everything that happens in the movie is a direct result of this bad investment and the situation is exacerbated by a hidden affair. His wife Ellen (Susan Sarandon) is pretty quiet in the movie while their daughter Brooke (Brit Marling) has a more pivotal role in the film. Since Robert included his daughter in his business there comes a point where a decision by her could make or break not only his career, but his life. Online we’ve seen reviews of 3 and a half stars (out of 5) to ratings of 6.5 out of 10. But we’re here to tell you that it’s a good 7.5 (out of 10). The only reason why we say 7.5 is because it’s not bad, but it’s not great either. Again, it’s one of those films that we’d say if you’re bored on a Saturday? Have the day off from work with nothing to do? Looking for something random to see while on a date? Then go see this movie. Or if you’re a fan of Richard Gere or Susan Sarandon then you’d be pleased. Aside from that we say wait for it to come on TV or hit up the always reliable Red Box. *Image from themovieblog.com All content and images are property of The Peach Review™ unless otherwise noted

Taken 2 was an exhilarating film which followed in the path of the first one. Wit, action, craftiness, and stealth were overflowing in this sequel and it did not disappoint. Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson) is adjusting to life after the initial debacle in the first movie. His ex-wife Lenore (Famke Janssen) and his daughter Kim (Maggie Grace) surprise him when they show up to Istanbul to get away from problems plaguing Lenore and her new husband. But the surprise trip takes a turn when Murad Krasniqi (Rade Serbedzija) returns (leader of the group of black market smugglers who kidnapped Bryan’s daughter in the first film) and kidnaps Bryan and Lenore. One thing I am a fan of is the use of intelligence to battle the enemy. Liam Neeson uses just that during so many parts of this movie (before getting kidnapped, during, after, whilst imprisoned, etc) that the audience took notice and applauded during at least 3 moments of pure genius shown by Bryan. From things like finding a geographical location using time or by gauging distance using sound, Bryan seemed more like Macgyver in this amazing sequel. If you didn’t make it to the theatre do not fret! It will be available on DVD and Blu-Ray January 15th 2013. It gets a 8.5 out of 10. “Silver Linings Playbook” directed by David O. Russell was a nice blend of romance, comedy, and drama with a perfectly casted lineup. Former teacher Pat Solitano (Bradley Cooper) has a stint in a mental institution (you see why in the movie). He’s lost his job, wife, and house and ends up moving in with his parents, Dolores Solitano (Jacki Weaver) and Pat Solitano Sr. (Robert De Niro). As Pat tries to get his life back together we discover his obsession with his wife and determination to mend what has been torn. As time goes on he finds an unexpected companion in Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence) and finds she too has her own set of problems. As their friendship begins to take shape she agrees to help him communicate with his wife as long as he does something for her. On this journey we meet some of Pat’s friends such as Danny (Chris Tucker), Ronnie (John Ortiz) and his wife Veronica (Julia Stiles). The interesting part about the movie is everyone’s obsession with the Philadelphia Eagles. Pat Sr. being the most avid fan has been banned from the stadium for life for fighting. We’re happy to bring you another quality film from The Weinstein Company (The Master, Lawless, Silver Linings Playbook, The Intouchables, Killing Them Softly) and can confidently recommend this to you. I give the movie an 8.5 out of 10. Be sure to pay attention to every part of their conversations because a lot of jokes are subtle one-liners that you might miss if you’re laughing too hard.

I’ve been a Hobbit fan since I was a kid and J. R. R. Tolkien did not disappoint with “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”. Peter Jackson delivers a tale featuring some familiar faces like a young Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), Gandalf the Great (Ian McKellen), Elrond (Hugo Weaving), Galadriel (Cate Blanchett) and Saruman (Christopher Lee). Our story begins with Bilbo detailing one of his many adventures on paper. On this particular adventure Bilbo hosts a meeting with Dwarves and Gandalf at his home. Their task? To head back to the Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor and retake it from the dragon (Smog) who captured it over 60 years ago. It goes into detail about how they once lived in a peaceful time where dwarves were a prominent people and had a bounty of gold in their caves. With the mission set, Bilbo Baggins and friends are off to recapture the home that once belonged to the dwarves. The film is about 2 and a half hours but doesn’t feel like it at all. If you can, its a great film to catch in 3D. It seems like every detail is enhanced and everything from weapons, spit, and smoke from Gandalf’s pipe seem like they’re right in front of you. This is one you have to see for yourself. We read numerous reviews and it seemed like a lot of groups weren’t impressed and some even said it was barely at par. We can tell you it’s definitely a must see, especially if you’re a Lord of the Rings fan. You’ll even run into a familiar face from the trilogy but we don’t want to give too much away. But we’ll close with a very important question for you to ask yourself. 9.5 out of 10. “Hobbits’ …… what is a Hobbits’?” All content and images are property of The Peach Review™ unless otherwise noted

Georgia Tech vs. Boston College The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets took on the Boston College Eagles here in Atlanta at Bobby Dodd Stadium . It was halfway into the 2nd quarter before the Jackets found themselves up 14-0. It was a dominant performance by Georgia Tech as they racked up 28 plays for 224 yards in the 1st quarter alone. Winding down under the 10 minute mark Boston College got onto the board with a 25 yard FG from Nate Freese to make the game 14-3 in favor of GT. But it wasn’t long before the Jackets scored twice more with a pair of touchdowns coming from Quarterback Vad Lee and Wide Receiver Anthony Autry (thrown from Vad Lee). With a 28-3 halftime score with 2 minutes left in the 2nd quarter it seemed as if the Jackets could relax going into the 2nd half. The combination of Tevin Washington and Vad Lee at Quarterback seemed quite effective against Boston College. Their efforts were mostly seen on the ground as Washington racked up 63 yards and 2 touchdowns while Lee gained 62 yards and a touchdown of his own. On the passing end the 2 combined for 6 completions on 15 attempts for 172 yards. Photo by: David Goldman, ASSOCIATED PRESS
In the 2nd half Boston College showed signs of strength as Chase Rettig threw 2 back to back touchdowns to Alex Amidon and Chris Pantale to make the score 31-17 and completed a 2 pt. conversion. But after a late Georgia Tech interception David Sims ran in a 7 yard touchdown to make the game 37-17 with 4 minutes left to play with a failed PAT (Point After Attempt) by Justin Moore. The Eagles (1-6, 0-3) lost their fifth straight game this season and the fact they went 1 for 9 on 3rd down conversions doesn’t help them either. Chase Rettig finished the game with 264 yards passing with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. Andre Williams rushed for 51 yards and 21 yards receiving. The big playmaker of the game was Wide Receiver Alex Amidon with his 118 yard receiving day (with a long of 40) and his touchdown contribution.

“Georgia Tech out-rushed BC 391-32”

Georgia Tech (3-4, 1-1) out-gained Boston College 391 to 32 on the ground and ran nearly twice as many offensive plays. The Jackets out-possessed the Eagles 43 minutes to 16 and broke their previous record for amount of plays ran in a season. With this victory Georgia Tech improved to 6-2 all-time against Boston College and avoided their first 3-game home losing streak since 1994. There’s nothing like attending a college football game but especially at Georgia Tech. With a picturesque setting and notable southern hospitality, a football outing in Tech Country is a must whether you live here or come to visit. The “GT” logos on the field were painted pink to show their support during Breast Cancer Awareness month. The Marching Band performed songs such as “Everything” by Pitbull & Ne-yo and “Beat it” by Michael Jackson. After halftime the band even joined fans in the stands (they literally ran 3 flights) to show their support for their Yellow Jackets. The fall colors, beautiful scenery, and the Atlanta skyline serve as the perfect backdrop for a football game. We highly suggest you experience Yellow Jacket football for yourself! And make sure you support them on December 31st in the El Paso Sun Bowl against the USC Trojans! All content and images are property of The Peach Review™ unless otherwise noted

GSU WINS AT THE BUZZER! Georgia State topped Tennessee State 59-57 on a buzzer beating half court shot from Rashaad Richardson. Devonta White led the way for the Panthers with 19 points and Cameron Solomon added 10 points. Robert Covington was the leading scorer for Tennessee State with 13 points. The Panthers went into the half with a one point lead over Tennessee State despite sloppy play and poor shooting. Georgia State was out-rebounded by 7 boards and shot 33 percent from the field compared to Tennessee State’s 37. Their defensive pressure and intensity forced Tennessee State to turn it over 8 times which was a major reason they were able to head into the locker room with a one point lead. The second half was very much like the first in that both teams got after it defensively and baskets were hard to come by for each team. Georgia State led 46-44 with just under 7 minutes when they ran a beautiful pick and roll in which R.J. Hunter found James Vincent for the layup and the foul. Vincent made the free throw to finish off the 3 point play. This really fired up the Panthers as they clamped down defensively flustering Tennessee State and extending their lead to 51-44 with 4:53 left. Tennessee State then went on an 8-0 run to take a 52-51 lead with 2:24 left. Georgia State and Tennessee

State traded baskets from that point on. The Tigers trailed by 1 with 7 seconds left on the clock when Deshawn Dockery slashed through the lane for a layup to give Tennessee State a 57-56 lead with just 2 seconds left on the clock. Georgia State called a quick timeout and head coach Ron Hunter drew up a play that he thought could get the Panthers a bucket and the win. Whatever Coach Hunter drew up in the huddle worked. Manny Atkins inbounded the ball to half court where Rashaad Richardson used every inch of his 6’4’ frame to grab the ball out of the air and put up a desperation shot. Fortunately for Georgia State the shot went off the backboard and through the net to give them the win at the buzzer. Coach Hunter on the final shot “That’s a play I’ve had from Valparaiso when

they beat Ole Miss in the tournament. It’s kind of a misdirection play. I’ve ran it maybe 20 times since I’ve been a head coach and we have never made it. The first time we actually made it but that’s actually our last second play”. The Panthers didn’t have a great night offensively but their defense was very solid in putting pressure on Tennessee State and forcing them to commit 13 turnovers. Coach Hunter on the defense “Since we’ve been here it’s been a trademark. It’s in our locker room. A theme, theme, theme that’s what we have got to be until our offense gets clicking. We were in the top 10 defensively last year in the country and in the conference. We have to do that again this year”. -Kevin Adler 16

Midtown EcoFest The weekend of November 3rd-4th kicked off the first annual EcoFest in Midtown. The first ever EcoFest was hosted by our friends at H30 Magazine at Millennium Gate Park. H30 is a great source for any and everything environmentally friendly and hosting the EcoFest was a way to push their initiative. Not just that, it was also used as a platform for others (companies and people) to share their green products, lifestyle, businesses, etc. In front of the Gate on the top-level there was a DJ spinning great tracks to set the tone for the fun-filled afternoon. On the backside on the lower level you could find vendors of all kinds with their products on display and live music in accompaniment. Along with a live band there was an organic wine garden, multiple natural health and beauty vendors, eco-friendly clothing accessories and more!

One of the Health & Beauty vendors we spoke with were the ladies of Soul Purpose. Soul Purpose Beauty and Lifestyle Company is a natural beauty and personal care products company that markets its products through a network of independent consultants. All of their products are natural and eco-friendly. We tried their “perfume essence” line which is a fragrant lotion which boasts benefits like Vitamin E and Sweet Almond Oil. There were many scents from Brown Sugar & Honey to Brazilian Jack Fruit (and all of them smelled amazing). So it softens skin, is rich in Vitamin E and antioxidants, and has a vegetable base? A perfect blend of natural vitamins and minerals to earn its spot at the Midtown EcoFest! Thanks again ladies for all of your helpful information and for being so kind. While walking around looking at other vendors we also took time to chat with Brandon and Anthony of C4 Belts. C4 Belts are belts that come in every color imaginable and they’re interchangeable. So if you bought a green belt with a white buckle, you could take that buckle off and put it on a white belt. They come 40 inches long and you can cut it yourself to your desire (and the part you don’t use is recyclable). That is correct, environmentally friendly, recyclable belts! The cool part about this movement is that your money supports a cause. With each belt or buckle, the consumer is given the opportunity to choose which cause benefits from their C4 purchase. A cause must be selected in order to complete a purchase. The selected organization will receive a portion of the customer’s C4 purchase. Each online purchase makes a difference to one of the four chosen causes: Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Project Kaisei, Human Rights Campaign, and Kiva. For its first year it was a very fun event and we learned a lot! There was also a performance by Alix Lapri, a speech from Biocadence, and we learned about the nonprofit organization Corporate Code. Corporate Code is a nonprofit program that provides interview appropriate attire and career counseling to displaced and disengaged men in Metro Atlanta. With Georgia men being hit the hardest by the recession this is a great organization to take part in! Be sure to check out H30 Magazine for all things green and to support your ecofriendly lifestyle. -Jon Jones and Johnny Hill Photography: Jonathan Davis All content and images are property of The Peach Review™ unless otherwise noted

C.H.O.I.C.E.S. At The Peach Review®, we love to cover everything about Atlanta but what touches us more than anything are organizations and individuals that help children. As we all know, childhood obesity is a major issue not only here in the state but across the nation. It is not easy to make an impact on this situation since a lot of choices one makes start in the home. For the past 10 years, Vanetta Keyes and her team from C.H.O.I.C.E.S. have taken on the challenge of battling childhood obesity and they are winning big time! C.H.O.I.C.E.S. stands for The Center Helping Obesity in Children End Successfully, Inc., a grassroots organization was formed in April 2002 to join the fight against the deadly epidemic of childhood obesity. Over the past year, we have attended many of C.H.O.I.C.E.S. events and followed their media initiatives and want to make sure we support all that they do. The Center aims to spread awareness of this critical issue and significantly reduce the presence of childhood obesity in our communities. We would like to highlight some of the initiatives we have attended to give people an idea of whats to come in 2013: • Let’s Move DeKalb 2012 – The 2nd Annual Let’s Move! DeKalb- Back to School Expo! This free event was held at Exchange Park Intergenerational in Decatur, Georgia from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm. This family friendly event featured the “Let’s Move!” and “Presidential Active Lifestyle” exhibit areas. Opening remarks were made by Larry Johnson, District 3 Commissioner and Dr. S. Elizabeth Ford, District Health Director, DeKalb County Board of Health. Presented by the Fulton DeKalb Hospital Authority, Let's Move! DeKalb provided nutrition/education exhibits and physical fitness activities. More than 1,000 parents and children attended the event.

Halloween 2012 has come and gone and I hope everyone had a great, safe time with friends and family. The Peach Review® had the opportunity to attend the first annual Cobwebs and Cocktails event at Zoo Atlanta On October 27, 2012. Cobwebs and Cocktails 2012 presented by Groupon gave participants the opportunity to drink, mingle and dance, but do not try to feed the ghosts! The event featured a nice trail in the zoo where you were greeted by ghosts and then throughout the trail you are warned to, “GO BACK…SOMETHING BIT ME OVER THERE!” Clearly, we at The Peach Review® only know to proceed to find the story. Everyone enjoyed the music by DJ Willy Wow from Little Beat Music, the costumes contest, and the overall scary and webbed environment Zoo Atlanta spun up created the appropriate sites and scents. In addition to that, we heard the cocktails had some spider venom in it so much that, some people could not find their way out of the Zoo We’d like to thank Keisha, Simone, and the entire Zoo Atlanta staff for yet another amazing event. Halloween: A night for tricks, treats, dressing up, and beer! That’s exactly what was delivered this year on October 26th at the Atlanta Beer Festival’s Boos and Brews Halloween party at Sweetwater Brewery. Commemorative pint glasses were provided at the door, and were constantly filled with the beers of Atlanta’s favorite local brewery all night. There was live music on both levels of the brewery provided by Ocean Street and the Kevin Lewis Duo as well as a costume contest. With a few Fred Flintstones, Honey Boo Boo, and even the Jamaican bobsledding team from “Cool Runnings,” everyone’s favorite characters from childhood and present were in attendance. This was truly a night of creativity as well, as there were some pretty elaborate costumes. One couple spent 3 hours applying body-paint for the most awesome skeleton costumes I saw all night, while another girl made for a pretty sweet piñata. As usual, the Atlanta Beer Festivals delivered again, and this was a great night of grown-up Halloween fun. I’m looking forward to their next event, and I’m hoping to see you there as well! -EDB

Learjet & Rolls-Royce
We had the opportunity to attend an invite only event which took place at St. Regis Atlanta in Buckhead. The hosts were Learjet and Rolls-Royce who came together in conjunction to debut the 2013 Rolls-Royce Phantom Series II. The event featured special guests of the company and the local dealership, a black 2013 Phantom Series II, a private plane provided by Learjet, and a large covered area (by tent) where you All content and images are property of The Peach Review™ unless otherwise noted! 31 could find posh furniture, free drinks, and delicious hors d’oeuvres.

Raid: The Redemption As you can see that wasn’t a misprint or typo, there was a private plane present, directly in front of the hotel. Onlookers, hotel guests, and visitors from Chops (the restaurant next door) came by to see the spectacle. It was very exciting to see everyone enjoying themselves along with the perks of the event. Those perks including a walk through the Learjet 85 and a test drive of the Rolls-Royce Ghost. We couldn’t pass up the opportunity to drive such a piece of machinery and we can tell you
first hand it is the smoothest ride ever felt. Phantom's unique, advanced aluminum space-frame is handwelded from over 500 separate parts, with over 100 meters of weld. Combined with the state-ofthe art suspension technologies and the smooth power delivery of the new power-train it creates the air-cushioned 'magic carpet ride' that is unique to Rolls-Royce.
For those who were unaware, the dealership in Atlanta is connected to the Hennessy Jaguar dealership in Buckhead on Piedmont Rd. So for those of you that have the desire, Greg Williams is there to handle all of your Rolls-Royce inquiries. For more information you can click HERE

Food, booze, a few thousand people, and MUSIC!!! All of this with the backdrop of the midtown Atlanta skyline. This is what defined Music Midtown 2012. With festivals becoming an even more attractive way for many people to see multiple great artists in one space, Music Midtown’s reappearance in Atlanta could not have come at a better time last year. This year’s festival started off without a hitch. The weather was beautiful, and the people all had one thing in common: We all wanted to hear good live music. Music Midtown pulled in quite a few people to see acts ranging from Atlanta’s own T.I. to Garbage. Food stands were ample, and with people selling beer throughout the crowds, alcohol could be acquired pretty much wherever one was standing. There was no shortage of spirits in general, with a wine garden and margarita stands peppered around the park. Vendors sold art and crafts, as the music played at all times. As for music, the performances did not disappoint. Musical acts performed one at a time,
alternating between the Electric Ballroom stage, and the Great Music Hall stage. While it may have been nice to have more stages spread out through the park, it was nice to be able to see every act if you so desired. Day one’s acts included T.I., who although somewhat censored, gave a great performance. The Avett Brothers provided some great mixed tempo tunes, along with awesome musicality and beautiful harmonies as the sun set. My favorite act of the night, the Foo Fighters played to a massive crowd, which stretched from the stage to the back gate. The performance held some surprises for the audience, including an impromptu performance of Bad Reputation with Joan Jett, as well as an unplanned change in the set-list in response to very special singing from the audience. Allin-all, day one ended with a bang! The second day of Music Midtown brought much bigger crowds and more beautiful weather. As Garbage rocked out under clear and sunny skies, Ludacris prepared for his upcoming show. He did take
some time to sit down with reporters, where we asked him whether there were any up-andcoming artists that he thought we should be looking out for. The Georgia rapper said to keep an eye out for new group, Untitled, which is signed under his own Disturbing Tha Peace label. Luda later took the stage, and gave a crowdpleasing performance of all of the chart-topping hits of his career. Shortly after, Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine had people singing along and dancing to her powerful voice, while Girl Talk kept the dancing going on past nightfall. The final performance was given by Pearl Jam who played to Saturday’s entire soldout crowd. Eddie Vedder was stronger than ever, and led the band and the festival to a glorious end. From the energetic masses to the beautiful midtown skyline, Music Midtown 2012 was a wonderful experience! Now, all that we the people of Atlanta can do is anxiously await next year’s festivities, and hope for yet another success.

iStandard ATL Producer Showcase
iStandard is an organization that bridges the gap between up-and-coming music producers and the music industry. They’re a great organization that’s been bridging the music production gap since 2005 through their Producer Showcases that take place nationwide. The iStandard community is an exceptional community to be a part of. I can tell you first hand I have met some amazing, talented, humble people through their showcases and it doesn’t stop there. Producers that have taken part in their showcases have had opportunities for placements with top artists like 50 Cent and Lupe Fiasco, been issued licensing deals, received magazine features, and more! The iStandard Atlanta Showcase served as a great opportunity for producers to have their music heard by a power packed panel of judges, a receptive musical audience, and the chance to win lots of great prizes. The judges for the evening were Don Cannon, Sonny Digital, Yung Joc, DJ Burn One, WillPower, and Knoxville of the Olympicks. Also in attendance were Jay Black, Harlem, and Boss Trees of Boss Squad, Kels of TN2, Dion Primo, Bone Crusher, and more. During and after the producers showcased their musical prowess there were performances by the likes of Myko, Big Rec, and June Summers. In case the participants slipped your grasp, here is a list of the producers from the event: Beats From a BackPack, Big Zac, BulletHead, DJ Night, Dre-Phantom!, IAMBRAHMS, K0T Productions, KJ Drapeau, Mixed Connections, Redefine Muzik Team, SBonthebeat, Slim Hendrix, SP1200, Sonic Legion, Spectrum Symphony. I highly suggest attending an iStandard event. Not only are the events fun and entertaining but its a great opportunity to network, listen to new music, meet new music producers on the rise, and support hard working musical talent albeit producers, artists, or anyone else. A big thank you to Kels for connecting me with this event! -Jon Jones All content and images are property of The Peach Review™ unless otherwise noted!

Al Jarreau & Ramsey Lewis On a beautiful Friday evening, The Peach Review® was proud to attend a concert consisting of two jazz giants --pianist Ramsey Lewis, and singer Al Jarreau. These two giants, at the ages of 77 and 72 respectively, showed that they still know how to bring down the house! The concert was held at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, and proved to be a “perfect storm” for the venue – the Centre was celebrating the 5th anniversary of its opening, as well as celebrating opening night for Jazz Roots: A Larry Rosen Jazz Series. Now, for those who consider themselves jazz aficionados, I’m sure your antenna vibrates when you hear the name Larry Rosen. If you’ve enjoyed jazz at any point from the 70’s forward (i.e. The Yellow jackets, Angela Bofill, Tom Browne, Ramsey Lewis, The Rippingtons, Spyra Gyra, David Benoit, Lee Ritenour, Chick Corea, Diana Krall, and Arturo Sandoval just to name a few), you’ve listened to some music courtesy of GRP (Grusin, Rose Productions – as in Dave Grusin). After being warmed up in the venue’s foyer by a wonderful local high school jazz band, Ramsey Lewis’ quintet kicked things off. His set could be characterized as a “book-end performance” --- he opened up with one bookend, his standard “Wade In The Water”, and closed with his other standard, the 1974 classic that he recorded with Earth, Wind, and Fire, “Sun Goddess”. Playfully, Lewis informed the audience that EWF wasn’t able to attend the performance, so he needed the audience to sing along – after all, the lyrics only consist of one word: “Ayyyoh”. In between the two “book-ends”, Lewis peppered the audience with his version of Stevie Wonders’ “Living For The City”, the Stylistics’ “Betcha By Golly Wow” -

Al Jarreau & Ramsey Lewis featuring a wonderful impromptu sing along by the audience, and eventually took us to church with a wonderful medley of “Precious Lord (Take my Hand)” and “Do Not Pass Me By”. I would truly be remiss if I didn’t mention the drum solo that accompanied this medley – the other four members of the quintet left the stage in order to “give the drummer some”. It was outstanding. After a brief intermission to re-set the stage, Al Jarreau sauntered out onto the stage – as only Al can. The bottom line on Al’s performance is that he didn’t disappoint. I had the opportunity to see Al Jarreau perform in California over 30 years ago --- he hasn’t slowed down much since then. Al opened with his classic song “In My Mind”; that song took me back to a time when life was easy – no responsibilities and full of fun! As with any Al Jarreau show, you’re going to be educated, and leave with some morsel of information that you didn’t know before coming; like Al performing in Malta at an annual meeting of heads of states of various countries, and looking out into the audience and seeing Georgia’s own Newt and Calista Gingrich. Al even mentioned that Newt was rocking to his beat – in time! Al also performed his classic “Come Rain or Come Shine” that he performed with George Duke almost 50 years ago. Al also performed some new stuff as well; of note, “Double Feature” and “Jacaranda-Boulavelia”. Being the mentor that he is, he also introduced some new talent: guitarist John Calderon, and bassist / vocalist Chris Walker (who crooned a lovely duet along with Al called “Random Act of Love”). Before calling it an evening, Al also performed his classic hits, “We’re In This Love Together”, and “Get My Boogie Down” as well as “Skoot Your Booty”. Overall, it was a wonderful evening -- wonderful for the audience, but also wonderful for the many students that were on hand who were fortunate enough to have Al visit their school (Benjamin Mayes High School), and to also participate in a talk back Q&A session with both artists prior to the show. -KJ 41

Performing on the day after her 28th birthday (October 18, 1984), Esperanza Spalding lived up to all the expectation that a ‘Best New Artist’ Grammy Award winner generates. For almost 2 hours, Esperanza, with main man keyboardist Leonardo Genovese in tow, and accompanied by three saxophonists, two trumpeters, two trombonists, two vocalists, and an outstanding drummer, brought down the house. Esperanza crooned through favorites like “Smile Like That”, “Holding On”, a wonderful rendition of “Endangered Species”, and what’s developing into her most popular close out song “Radio Song” where she coaxed the audience into some a cappella sing along: “now if you want to, sing it loud, with love, with love in your heart – because you like to, because you need to”! Esperanza also performed a song called “My King” giving props and homage to those good men out there who really know how to treat their lady right; during this song trombonist Corey King belted out a solo for the ages – outstanding. To hear Esperanza Spalding’s music is really only to appreciate a small portion of what this talented woman brings to the plate; to see her live is to get wrapped up into all of what Esperanza is – musician, muse, lyricist, composer, arranger, vocalist, and a beautiful stage presence that transcends all that a “jazz singer” is supposed to be. I refer to her as a hybrid -- a voice that’s a mix of Ella Fitzgerald, Dianne Reeves, and Minnie Ripperton; bass chops that are comparable to a Charlie Mingus, Edgar Meyer, Milt Hinton, or Ron Carter; composition skills of Quincy Jones or a Bob James, and lyrical skills of Stevie Wonder. Before the evening ended, Esperanza shared with the audience a touching story of a man she met through an organization called The Innocence Project; The Innocence Project fights to free individuals who are unjustly incarcerated. When Esperanza met this gentleman (named Cornelius Dupre’), she was so touched by his story that she wrote a song on his behalf; when she performed the song you could have heard a pin drop – very moving. Finally, after leaving the stage to a rousing standing ovation, Esperanza performed one curtain call ---she was joined on stage by Terri Lyne Carrington and the two of them performed the evening’s final number – together. Two women. Too talented. Too cool. -KJ

EL AZTECA Recently we made our way to Midtown to visit our friends at El Azteca. If we need to be specific it’s actually right on the edge of Buckhead/Midtown. Either way, they’re winning because they are ITP (Inside The Perimeter). Everyone was excited to have our team meeting at El Azteca (and I’m sure the Falcons game had nothing to do with that, but I digress) and I’m glad we did. Once we arrived we were greeted by countless employees even before we entered their establishment. Once inside the smiling hostess told us it would be a few minutes for our table but to enjoy ourselves and watch the game. Although they had a buffet option (that ran until 4pm) we all opted to order from menus. Our waiter Alex was amazing and was very knowledgeable about the restaurant and the food. While making suggestions on what to order he mentioned that their restaurant orders their meat from Buckhead Beef (a very reputable meat wholesaler). There were 5 of us total and here’s what we ordered:

Atlantic Station We kept hearing about this new addition to Atlantic Station so we decided to stop by and see what BGR was all about. We try to mix it up when we do restaurant reviews to get the most accurate, real-life experience. The last restaurant we reviewed we spoke to
What better time to try BGR Burger joint than when a friend comes into town from Chicago claiming “we are a city of burgers, hot dogs, and pizza. What’s a good burger joint in Atlanta?” Well we’re going to try BGR and not just because it also sports the word “joint” in its title. Once inside their menu is posted on the wall in chalk, like a real, legit burger “joint”. Their prices are reasonable for what you receive and the type of establishment it is. At first glance you may compare a $9 or $13 burger to something you’ve eaten in the past at a different restaurant and say that’s overpriced. But what you must remember is that this is a

Midtown is our favorite area of Atlanta but the team knows my favorite spot has always been Atlantic Station. As I see Atlantic Station continue to grow and expand it makes me want to visit even more. This addition along with Meehan’s, Yard House, and Athleta are contributing to a broader, more diverse Atlantic Station. Before I forget, on top of the flat screens, comfortable seats, friendly staff, and delicious burgers, they have Pac-Man-esque signs on their bathroom doors. So if you’re ever in the Midtown area and want a great burger and awesome dining experience you should definitely head to BGR Burger Joint at Atlantic Station. Delicious!

“Homeownership has been and always will be a blessing” This question is up for grabs, out of all your sales is there 1 that’s more memorable than the rest? (Charles smiles) “It’s funny you’d ask. Ironically, I’d have to say our most memorable sale was the very first sale we ever made, and I’m quite sure Tiffany would agree!” he states. (Tiffany laughs and nods) “I’m with you all the way on this one!” she says. Charles continued “Anyway, I can remember it as though it were yesterday, and although it was a success in the end, there were quite a few road blocks along the way. Those adversities made us well aware that this definitely isn’t a business for the weak at heart, and caused us to adopt a business philosophy that’s been with us ever since, “always expect the unexpected”. After all, our clients’ lively-hood is in our hands and although we never go looking for problems, it’s up to us to make sure that they are prepared for the worst case scenario if it ever comes up.”
In your opinion (Charles), how important is it that people “own” a home as opposed to “renting” a home? “Homeownership has been and always will be a blessing, and privilege that comes with its share of challenges and responsibility! However, if someone enters it properly—with a spirit of gratitude after adequate planning and consideration—it can present a wonderful opportunity to build wealth, establish stability, create cherished memories, and secure a brighter future for one’s self and those she or he loves. So, if the necessary precautions have been made and the time feels right, why not do it?”
Where is the market in your opinion? (they both laugh) “I was wondering when that question would come up” Tiffany laughs. “It’s definitely the most frequently asked question we get” Charles says. “Tiffany I’ll let you have this one.” (Tiffany begins) “Well, everyone has their opinion, and since opinions are just that— This one’s for Tiffany, do you something everyone has—we’d have any projects you’re working rather share with you something on outside of real estate? “I’m so you can bank on for a change, the excited about it and can’t wait to cold hard facts! It’s an a national perspective these days, idea that I came up with several and that’s great! But, unless you’re years back that was inspired by the a real estate mogul like Donald challenges we’ve faced while Trump or Robert Kiyosaki what building our business, and the rich really matters the most is what heritage of the city where we grew you’re striving to accomplish, and up, Selma, Alabama.” what’s happening right in your own All content and images are property of The Peach Review™ unless otherwise noted
backyard. First and foremost, please be aware that real estate is a local business driven by forces influencing its supply and demand in your local market, and the dynamics of those forces control the state of the market as you know it to be in your neighborhood, city or town. However, while a particular force could have a major influence on your local marketplace, it may at the same time have very little, if any impact at all in other areas, and vice versa. So, with that in mind we recommend that you look at the market objectively, and from the standpoint of whether it’s trending in a favorable direction for you to achieve your personal goals.” I take what you’re saying is that where the market is currently going only matters in relation to what you’re trying to accomplish in it. Is that correct? (She nods) “You’ve got it, and we’d be more than glad to help you or someone you know determine whether now is the time to Sell, Buy or Invest in real estate, and the best way how!” With the market the way that it is, if someone wanted to sell their home, should they wait? proceed? (Charles) “Again, as we’re sure you’ve seen in the news by now, history has already proven to us that there’s definitely no one answer fits all problems solution in real estate. Tiffany just pointed out that moves in the market should only be made after making a 50
The Peach Review® careful assessment of one’s personal goals in addition to local market conditions. I’m going even further to say, one should take into account the potentially adverse effects of unsuccessfully attempting to sell like running the risk of diminishing return on investment by causing the home to become aged inventory, or increasing carrying costs by not realizing a timely sale and missing the market of the moment which could prove in some cases to be a much better time than any thereafter; the list could go on and on. Amazingly, that’s only one side of the coin and there’s a completely different list of considerations one must take into account if she or he actually manages to get the home SOLD. We have another product review for you in the form of this lovely Timex Intelligent Quartz™ FlyBack Chrono Compass. The revolutionary Chronograph Compass is a style that combines adventure, style, and Intelligent Quartz™ technology. The six-hand movement features a fly-back four-hour chronograph, electronic compass with magnetic declination compensation and a second time zone. This clean, solid black finish makes it adaptable with everything from outdoor adventures to cocktail events. It has a stainless steel casing with a silicone strap which is very comfortable on the wrist. Seiko, ESQ, Nautica, Diesel, and Tissot all offer similar Chrono Compass watches but when it comes to pricing Timex wins yet again. All of the watches we found start in the $250 range and can skyrocket as high as $500. This onyx beauty sits right below $200 and comes with the ironclad warranty that they stamp with all of their watches. We found a video by Timex to show you how to use the Chronograph properly as well as what the 2 sub-dials represent (elapsed time in hours and minutes). TIMEX You can find more pictures HERE

Michael Kors Chronograph Bradshaw Two Tone Stainless Steel Bracelet Tis’ the season for the Chronograph! This Chronograph Bradshaw watch demands attention with its two tone stainless steel band and blue dial. The rose gold accent compliments its colors perfectly as its a subtle blend of class and style that screams “look at me.” This attention-demanding time piece sports a rose-gold bezel, Roman numerals, hands, and markers. Along with its quartz movement, water resistance, 3 sub-dials, and date window, this Michael Kors Chronograph can be classed as wrist artwork. Priced at $250 I was surprised to see a brand such as Michael Kors was within striking distance of the wallet. Looking for Chronograph style watches is going to start around $100+ to begin with, but after the 2-year warranty, all the accents, the craftsmanship, and then the Michael Kors name makes it commensurate with its price point. Michael Kors watches bursted on the scene with their women’s line in rose-gold not too long ago and haven’t looked back since. Since then (like Audi and their LED headlight housing) they have sparked a trend in rosegold solid and accented time pieces. For those that want to go a few steps above the average, Michael Kors is a good destination to shop for your wrist!

Atlanta Film Crew So I was introduced to an app the other day called Atlanta Film Crew on Android. It’s like Twitter plus more and it’s really neat. It covers Theatre, Film, TV Shows, Webisodes, Indie Projects, and more. AtlantaFilmCrew.com is a social media website you can join for free and another great thing about this app is that it’s Ad-free! There are “Photos” to see what recent projects are being worked on, and to see what celebrities are up to. They have a “Chatter section,” and what’s cool about that is it keeps you updated on what film project is being worked on in Atlanta and who they are looking for. The “Watch” tab basically lets you watch the videos at atlantafilmcrew.com, and is a good point to access the audio section. Be sure that your Android device supports flash so you the best chance at viewing all media types. The last tab is “Latest,” and it keeps you updated to the latest entertainment news.
The Peach Review®
It’s a really cool app, and if you’re an aspiring actor, extra, or anyone looking for that big break, I say you should look into this app. It’s $4.99 but if you’re in the industry it’s worth it for an app that constantly updates itself. It can be found HERE

The Peach Review™
We had the opportunity to get a tour of the W Residences downtown and “Wow!” is all that can be said! I’ve always wanted to see the residences since the building itself is so appealing. Downtown Atlanta continues to enjoy substantial growth and both homeowners and developers recognize the opportunity to capture the value in the resurgence. Recently, Regent Partners and Post Properties have secured additional parcels in Allen Plaza for future development, and projects including the National Center for Civil & Human Rights, the College Football Hall of Fame and the Atlanta Streetcar are moving forward. Homebuyers who act now will gain access to the luxurious W lifestyle at an incredible value. With 1 and 2 bedrooms priced from $299k you can definitely understand the value in that. Granted it may be priced high for some but when you measure it with what you’re getting in return? It really is an incredible value. All the beauty and service of a W hotel but in a home, the prices, space, views, amenities, and treatment are all commensurate with what you’re paying for; and with 15 of its 74 homes sold already, others are starting to find this to be true as well.

The Residences at W Atlanta – Downtown offers homeowners fabulous views plus all of the amenities and services of the hotel, including Whatever/Whenever®, the W brand’s 24/7 service philosophy; preferred access to Bliss® Spa, BLT Steak®, the Living Room, DRINKSHOP and WETBAR; use of WET® heated pool, SWEAT Fitness®, Pet Services, Private Helipad, Housekeeping, Wheels® Valet services; and Starwood Preferred Guest® Gold Membership, among other exclusive owner benefits. Opened in 2009 as the first newly built W Hotel in the city, W Atlanta – Downtown is an urban hideaway infused with lush natural elements in the heart of the city. Nestled on Ivan Allen Jr. Blvd and one block away from “The Loop” you are truly within walking distance of everything. Including a MARTA station if you want to travel further into downtown without the hassle of Georgia heat! 59

After getting a wonderful tour with Kate Thacker & Gina Barnabo our favorite amenity has to be their “Whatever/Whenever” service. From food to cell phone chargers, whatever you want, whenever you need it. The views are priceless! Any side you reside on has something special for you. The direction you’re facing doesn’t matter because there’s something to see from all sides.

Eleven is the signature restaurant of the Loews Atlanta Hotel and offers traditional regional flare with contemporary style and an emphasis on natural ingredients. Eleven’s menu features seasonal flavors and regionally sourced meats, fish, and produce. The eleven restaurant is being piloted by Executive Chef Olivier Gaupin and Chef de Cuisine Shayne Vaughan. Bar eleven as you can imagine is the Loews Atlanta Hotel’s signature bar which offers an arrangement of local microbrews, cocktails, and if you desire, high-end wines. The bar menu also includes samples from the eleven restaurant by Chef Gaupin. Another fun fact is that every Loews Hotel offers a signature drink in respect to its region. So the signature drink in Atlanta is different than the Loews New Orleans. Market eleven is the hotel’s signature one-stop-shop featuring Starbucks coffee, house-made pastries, gifts, products from local organizations, products from local artists, Jake’s ice cream, and more. The Loews Atlanta Hotel is home to the 23,000-square-foot Exhale Spa and Fitness Center, which debuted September 2010. Exhale offers the largest fitness center in Midtown Atlanta. MEGABUS All this talk about the “Megabus.” What the heck is a Megabus?! Have you ever seen a bright blue and yellow double-decker bus on the highway? Well this my friends is the Megabus. The mother of all buses offering travel deals that will make you forget the stresses of flying and just hit the road! We had to try first hand and see what the fuss is about and I can tell you, they are legit! We purposely waited until about 2 days before we departed to Orlando, Florida and said “alright, let’s see what this Megabus is all about.” One-way from Atlanta to Orlando was $39.50. Oh the 50 cents came in because that’s how much the online booking charge is... yeah 50 cents. I couldn’t believe this was real. We met at the Civic Center Marta station at 6:50am so we could depart at 7:00am. To my surprise as we took exit 249C we ended up right behind the very bus we were about to board. It arrived 10 minutes early! The seating is open so you can sit wherever you like. It’s a double decker with a panoramic view so there isn’t a bad seat. We immediately went upstairs to a panoramic view and skylight feel. The seats were comfortable and every row comes with DC outlets! I charged my phone and my laptop with zero problems and then discovered the kicker. Free wi-fi! The trip was supposed to be 9 hours but our driver Donna had us there early. If it wasn’t for our stop in Jacksonville we could’ve easily made it to Orlando in 7 and a half hours. Our driver was extremely courteous and the other passengers were just as laid back and happy as we were. Most of them booked early we discovered and paid a lighter fare. After doing my research Megabus offers fares as low as $1 and on December 5th they started a “free ticket” campaign for travel Jan. 9 to Feb. 28, 2013. That’s right, they are giving away 200,000 free tickets and all you have to do is enter the promo code “TRYMEGABUS.” Megabus offers service to more than 120 cities in North America and with fares as low as $1 there’s no excuse for you to not visit Atlanta! Find out more on their website HERE because they also offer 65 service in Canada and the United Kingdom. -TPR
