beloved Tuileries Garden and its impact on artists through time will premiere at the High Museum of Art on Nov. 3, 2013.

“The Art of the Louvre’s Tuileries Garden” will feature more than 100 works, some of which have never traveled outside of Paris. These will include large-scale sculptures from the garden that were created in the 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th centuries by sculptors including FrançoisJoseph Bosio, Antoine Coysevox and Aristide Maillol, and paintings, photographs and drawings that depict the Tuileries. Thirty-five works in the exhibition are from the collections of the Louvre.

The exhibition will also explore how the 63-acre garden influenced and inspired French and American Impressionists such as Camille Pissarro, Childe Hassam, and photographers such as Eugène Atget, Henri Cartier-Bresson and André Kertész. As part of the exhibition’s presentation in Atlanta, the High will turn the museum’s piazza into a landscaped park, inspired by the Tuileries Garden. The “Paris on Peachtree” experience will begin as visitors arrive on the High’s piazza to find a dozen holly trees in planter boxes similar to those in the Tuileries Garden, installed to create a path to the exhibition entrance. Two sculptures by Maillol will be placed among the trees. The immersive experience will continue in the galleries, where six sculptures that have never before left France and for centuries resided in the Tuileries Garden will greet visitors on the first level of the exhibition. The High is also devoting an entire gallery in the exhibition to a video titled “A Day in the Tuileries Garden,” featuring footage from the Garden projected on three walls. “The Art of the Louvre’s Tuileries Garden” is co-organized by the High Museum of Art, the Toledo Museum of Art and the Portland Art Museum, with the exceptional collaboration of the musée du Louvre. It will be on exhibit here from Nov. 3, 2013–Jan. 19, 2014

Warrior Class

“To sum up the production in one word; Refreshing!” On November 6th we saw the play “Warrior Class” and we’re here to tell you its amazing! This production was performed on Alliance Theatre’s Hertz Stage (downstairs) which feels like a different entity completely. You’re welcomed by a neon sign displaying the stage name and as you go downstairs you’ll notice all the walls are tagged and spray painted. A more intimate venue than its big brother upstairs, Hertz Stage is the perfect setting for this three-person production. The story begins in New York where we find a young man on the upswing in politics. While he’s being groomed into “the next best thing”, the emergence of an ex-girlfriend threatens his political aspirations. If he can’t put a lid on his ex-girlfriend it will definitely take a toll on his campaign and possibly the race. We had a chance to speak with House of Cards writer Kenneth Lin after the production and we can honestly say, that his vision and passion are only exceeded by his kindness . The man who started with humble beginnings right here in Atlanta by winning the Alliance/Kendeda National Graduate Playwright Competition has returned with this masterpiece production “Warrior Class.” The production ran until November 17 but you can keep tabs on his website for his next production. You never know when he’ll end up back in Atlanta!

Well I would have to say I was turned into a believer. I use to hate on the GTA (Grand Theft Auto) series for a while, the last GTA I played was 2 and it didn’t make any sense then. But a good friend turned me on to the newest one and man, I have to say this game is awesome. My biggest worry was how they would’ve balanced out the game with three playable characters and still make the game really good. They did it and it blew my mind. They didn’t rush any of the characters, they took their time with them. Now I thought this was like every other GTA game, where you would just go out, rob people, kill hookers, and steal cars without purpose. Well in GTAV (Grand Theft Auto 5) there’s more to it because there’s a story behind it. You start off with Franklin and you’re just a petty carjacker stealing cars that are getting repossessed. You end up meeting Michael, who offers you a better opportunity, but Michael has problems and debts of his own. His past ends up coming to haunt him to where he ends up meeting his old crazy friend Trevor and this dude is really crazy. The story is really good and there are a lot of funny moments in there. Michael and Trevor humiliate a tv host for exposing Michael’s daughter (they make him dance and sing in his underwear and post it on the internet). Gameplay is good, the controls are fine, I guess to me controlling a helicopter is the hardest thing in the world especially during a heist, but other than that everything else is good. Online play is fun as well except most of the people I meet online want to race and not do anything else. But you get to meet people, pick them up in your car, and go do random missions or heists. I’ve even heard certain celebs play online as well (cough cough Sheneka Adams). But when I’m not doing a mission or playing online and I want to gain 5 stars, I just walk out into the street, kick a car, cause traffic a traffic jam, lay out some C4 and blow stuff up… that’s how I roll. I give GTAV a 9.5 out of 10. -TBZ

Batman Arkham Origins, The Third installment of the Arkham series, is more like the prequel. Not the origin of Batman but the Origin of Arkham city which is old Gotham city for the ones that didn’t know that. So as you guys may know Arkham Origins was done by a different company Warner Bros. Montréal. They’ve also done the Batman for the Wii U, but originally the Arkham series is done by Rock Steady in which they were supposed to have done Origins. But they dropped it and handed it off to WB Montreal which would explain some of the difference in the game. As a source told me, Rock steady was supposedly working on a Batman JLA (Justice League America) game but we don’t know since they dropped Arkham Origins and gave it to WB Montreal. This game is supposed to be an origin game right? So why is it that you start off with almost every weapon that you had in Arkham Asylum? It would’ve been cool if you would have started off with 3 or 4 weapons and then gain more in the rest of the game, but you only gain like 3 more weapons. The fast travel option in the game is cool because the map is bigger, but it’s not needed, they just made the bat jet useless. The countering system is off, it used to be spot on with Arkham Asylum and Arkham City but with Origins it’s off. Now on a good note, the game is not that bad, it’s still fun, its freakin Batman! They brought in new Villains that we haven’t seen before like Anarky, Fire Fly, Copperhead, Electrocutioner, Lady Shiva, and Deathstroke. The surprise twist they have in the game is somewhat shocking, basically how one villain controlled and tricked everyone. Another cool feature is while in detective mode you can scan a crime scene, basically find a point of interest and holograms will act out scenarios of the crime that occurred. You actually get to fight hand-to-hand combat with Killer Croc. In Arkham Asylum you didn’t fight him, it was more like you’re evading him, but Origins you fight him which was kind of cool. Now the online gameplay of Arkham Origins is actually really fun. It’s a random select, you’re either on Jokers, Blackmask, Penguin, or Bane’s team. Or maybe you get to play as Batman or Robin but if you are on a Villains team, it’s kind of like capture the flag and you have to worry about each other and the dynamic duo. Whichever team you are on you get to play as the main villain as well. So if you always wanted to be Bane and pound on Batman, you should try the online feature. I give Arkham Origins a 8 out of 10. Also check out some of my gameplay on my YouTube Page -TBZ All content and images are property of The Peach Review® unless otherwise noted

The Taste of ATLanta On October 25-27 Georgia Tech’s Tech Square turned into a food metropolis! Midtown always has a great variety of activities taking place and the Taste of Atlanta is no different. This 3-day festival is the ultimate experience for food lovers. It doesn’t just stop with food though, they also have a hefty selection of wine, beer, and cocktails. Festival features include: 4 Live cooking stages, Family Food Zone, VIP Wine/Beer/Cocktail experience, 90+ restaurants, The Kitchen Workshop, and so much more!

We have to say its an amazing experience whether you love food or you’d like to take a chance to try something new. But even better than that, its a chance to try food from that restaurant you’ve always wanted to go to (because we all have one). I marked 3 off my list by trying samples from Davio’s, Paschal’s, and Atlanta Grill at The Ritz-Carlton Atlanta. It’s the best, most diverse collection of restaurants in one place. The best part is you pay in tickets. So once you enter you have the chance to purchase tickets (we started out with 10), then you visit specific restaurants and you’ll see their menu selections with a quantity of tickets needed. Most places asked 2-4 tickets but there were plenty of places offering food for free. One of the best free items we sampled were chips from an aptly named company “Food Should Taste Good.” Awesome experience, its well worth the price, and you’ll leave with plenty of promotional items (coupons for free food, info sheets, reusable bags, free drinks, etc). Be sure to attend next year!

Punch Party at W Atlanta-Buckhead

What happens when you bring 7 of Atlanta’s best bartenders to punch it out in a head to head drink competition at one of the nicest venues in Buckhead? An amazing time and a chance to make new friends! There was live music by DJ Hakim and signature libations from: 4th & Swift, Barrel Bar (Food 101), Bourbon Bar (Southern Art), Cook Hall (W Atlanta- Buckhead), Ocean Prime, One Eared Stag, and Proof & Provision. Guests voted by liking their favorite drink (picture) on Instagram. The Living Room of the W Atlanta- Buckhead was the perfect spot for such an occasion. With great music, great food, and a myriad of drink options, the perfect atmosphere was created to truly relax and enjoy a good time. Every month something amazing happens in Buckhead and the only place you’ll find it is here! Rolls-Royce Unveils the Wraith

On Friday, September 27th, we experienced an unveiling of massive proportions! As if relaxing with Mali and the Treesound gang wasn’t classy enough (you’ll see in the next story), we made our way not even a mile further into Buckhead, to the Rolls-Royce Atlanta dealership. When you arrive the first thing you saw was a massive amount of police (which we totally understand for an event like this), then about 6 valet attendants waiting to park your car, and last but not least, Phantoms and Dropheads and Ghosts! OH MY! Until this monstrous work of art commanded the attention of guests, a myriad of drinks were available along with desserts and sample size snacks of many kinds to settle the amount of anticipation in your stomach. There was even a heavily manned (and by manned we mean womanned lol) Ciroc Bar for guests to try their new Ciroc Amaretto flavor. There were plenty of representatives there to answer questions about purchasing options, amenities, styles, colors, and anything else you might think of while sipping champagne and finishing your chicken & waffles (a southern staple).

Pre-BET Hip-Hop Awards Festivities Mali Hunter along with Treesound Studios kicked off BET Hip-Hop Awards Weekend with a beautiful, sunlit, gathering in the gardens of the Mandarin Hotel in Buckhead. The function was brought together by Treesound, Def Jam, 3 Little Digs, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League super producers, and ASCAP. The venue for such a gathering was perfect as it promoted relaxation, casual conversation, and the food was great. The idea behind the event was to “celebrate the press and DJ’s that support our artists and communities.” Leading up to the event was speculation and suspense, as many discovered it was invite only and the location wasn’t announced until the morning of the event. With an invitation that stressed an attire as “be yourself” and knowing it was hosted by Mali Hunter (one of the most positive people we know) you had the feeling it truly was going to be a relaxing experience (and that’s exactly what it turned out to be). With Heineken and D’ussé indoors and outside, it was easy to relax, meet someone new, and find a great place to absorb the sunshine and good vibes. Which is what Mali is all about! Big thanks to Mali Hunter and Treesound Studios for putting on a great event at the Mandarin Hotel.

What’s the best way to re-open a store after a renovation? A party! The Lacoste store in Lenox Mall is a favorite by many who roam its corridors. They switched to a much larger location and to celebrate its new accommodations the store hosted a party. With an RSVP via Eventbrite you were able to celebrate with the Lacoste team, enjoy Lacoste M&M’s, enjoy free drinks, and take part in a one-of-a kind shopping experience.

All across the store you could see signs that read “Lacoste L!VE”, promoting their new collection that’s all about invoking the playful, innovative spirit of René Lacoste. The new collection holds a fresh presence to go along with their classic Lacoste looks and features new colors and styles not previously seen before. A party isn’t a party without great music, and for that we needn’t look any further than Atlanta’s own DJ Infamous. On top of the great music there were raffle drawings every 30 minutes to win custom painted Lacoste shoes by Ed the Artist. The Grand Opening party landed a great crowd and captured the attention of everyone walking by. The store is located on the main level by the main entrance (facing peachtree street). Be sure to look out for more events happening at Lenox Mall. We thoroughly enjoyed this one and suggest you attend the next!

In the second installment of the series, Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) returns home after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson). The happiness is short-lived as their victory comes with sacrifice in the form of a “Victorʼs Tour”, where they must leave their families once again and tour the districts, acknowledging those who died in the Games. But as they begin their tour both Katniss and Peeta have a strange feeling. An odd feeling that they canʼt seem to shake. They both notice as they continue their tours that the districts are up in arms and fail to acquiesce to authority so easily. Is their a hint of rebellion in the air? President Snow (Donald Sutherland) can sense it too and is determined to show the districts and the capitol that he is still, very much in control of things. A way of doing this is changing up the rules in preparation for the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell). With a surprise that nobody sees coming, the tributes for the Quarter Quell ... well we shouldnʼt tell you that :) Make sure you go see it because there are a few surprises AND its just awesome. Itʼs about 2hrs and 20 mins so make sure you have some space in your day. We saw the 2D version but I can tell you just from what we saw, the 3D version should be awesome! 9.5 out of 10. Side note: It hauled in $307.7 million globally opening weekend. -TPR

Disney’s Frozen takes us on an unexpected adventure through snow, ice, and a winter that never ends. All of this because of the special powers of a young queen-to-be in Elsa (Idina Menzel). After accidentally freezing her younger sister Anna (Kristen Bell) she agrees with her parents to keep a safe distance from her until she can control her power. As they grow older Anna becomes a symbol of optimism and is determine to rekindle the relationship they once had (before the accident). The story really begins once the girls receive word of a party that will take place at their castle. The film is directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee. Jennifer worked on the highly successful “Wreck-it Ralph” as a writer and producer. Chris has participated in many Disney classics such as “The Little Mermaid, Pocahontas,” and “The Fox and the Hound.” But he also played a major part in other productions like “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventures” (TV series), “The Rescuers Down Under, The Brave Little Toaster, and Bébé's Kids.” The prototypical Disney character providing all of the comedy in this film is Olaf (Josh Gad), the snowman that you’ve seen on posters and on TV commercials. Overall the movie is funny and entertaining but I could do without half the songs . 8.5 out of 10. It’s not “Up” or “Lion King” but it gets the job done. -Jon J.

Iʼm not sure if you noticed but Michael Fassbender has been getting a lot of face-time this year. He appears in The Counselor as simply Counselor, and plays the role of a lawyer who happens to know some big time drug traffickers. As if he wasnʼt making enough money as a lawyer he gets enticed by his trafficking “friends” by their lives and the seemingly easy opportunity to increase his wealth. His wife is played by Penélope Cruz, who seems to only have one friend in Malkina (Cameron Diaz). Malkina is the wife of Reiner (Javier Bardem) the only trafficker who truly seems to care about the Counselorʼs wellbeing. We canʼt finish this without mentioning Brad Pitt plays Westray. Honestly, the trailers built up more suspense for this movie than it actually delivered. So letʼs break it down like this: Plus sides are the guys get to see Diaz and Cruz and the ladies get to see Pitt and Fassbender. Thatʼs about it really.. no seriously thatʼs it. All over the web Iʼve seen horrific scores of everything from 2 to 7 to 5.8. Weʼll give it a 7 out of 10. It had its moments but definitely not something you want to rush to the theatre to go see. As a matter of fact, this is one of those first date movies where you are watching 30% of it and talking through the rest to get to know each other movies. Thatʼs about the best we can do (donʼt bother with Redbox, just wait until it comes on TV).

This is based off the true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in 200 years. Tom Hanks plays the role of Captain Phillips and the main antagonist (main Somali pirate) is played by Barkhad Abdi. The movie is really suspenseful and the last 30 minutes leading up to the ending is a thriller! You have a better appreciation of what’s going on throughout the movie because it actually happened (and remember it wasn’t that long ago, just 4 years). We definitely want you to see this movie. This would be worth hitting up Redbox for and for your four-quartered investment will bring you back plenty in return. Captain Phillips gets a 9 out of 10 from us. Awesome movie and definitely one of Tom Hanks’ better films the past few years.

In James Gandolfini’s last movie before his passing, it was refreshing to see him play a role that wasn’t Tony Soprano (don’t get me wrong, he made that show, just good to see him in a different light). He plays the role of Albert, a recent divorcee who’s trying to adjust to single life with his daughter. Eva (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) is in the exact same boat as a single mom and recent divorcee. Eva is a massage therapist who has clients all over town. She gets closer with one client who’s a poet named Marianne (Catherine Keener). Marianne is has also recently divorced but what Eva doesn’t know is that her ex-husband is actually her newfound love interest Albert. As you can imagine this makes for a very interesting movie and a subtle plot twist towards the end. Definitely a funny movie worth watching and it was interesting seeing James and Julia as a couple, they were very cute. 8.5 out of 10.

First off, let me start by saying 2013 is the first time I have ever heard anyone pronounce the Dragon’s name as Smaug (like Sm-ow-g) instead of like Smog. I know how it’s spelled but still, even in the original Disney movie version I heard them say what sounded like “smog.” That’s number 1 number 2, Peter Jackson has done it a-freakin-gin! WOW! We always let you know whether that extra $3-$5 is worth it when going to the movies for 3D and in this case it’s definitely worth it. We rejoin the company of Dwarves (with the added hobbit) as they make their way to reclaim their lost Erebor. Our brave hobbit Bilbo (Martin Freeman) has become more comfortable when using his magical ring he discovered (in the initial “The Hobbit” movie) and it comes in handy quite often in this film. Gandalf (Ian McKellen) catches the gang off-guard when his curiosity leads him to investigate recent happenings in Dol Guldur. We also are introduced to 2 new characters who haven’t been labeled as friend or foe just yet, in Legolas (Orlando Bloom) and Tauriel (Evangeline Lilly). This movie is an epic 9.5 out of 10. Some of you may be thinking “why didn’t he just give it a 10?” Because of the ending. I know I wasn’t wrong in my feelings because we found the entire theater voicing their opinions as well. Giving you more reason to go join the Dwarf faction and continue on their epic adventure! -Jon J.

DRAKE REVIEW

Miguel, Future, and Drake takeover Philips Arena By Yoh Phillips

I remember “So Far Gone”, the mixtape that whispered warnings of a storm coming from, Toronto, but it wasn’t until attending his show did I realize the power of Drake’s impact. My first ever stadium concert, “Would You Like A Tour”, featuring Miguel, Future, and Drake – a desperate housewife’s wet dream showcase. A full house, but that’s to be expected when All content and images are property of The Peach Review® unless otherwise noted

you have three urban radio tyrants in one room. Truthfully I was late, Future’s set had ended before I could get into my seat, but after a short intermission Miguel was taking the stage. Flamboyantly styled that was obviously Prince/Punk Rock influenced, Miguel and his live band are received with joyous roars, almost as if the headliner had took the stage.

Miguel is either extremely well trained, or finds performing as natural as breathing; the way he moves along the stage, dance, jigs, are harmonized with every note, every drum kick, every verse. He runs through songs with masterful control, there wasn’t a superfluous moment, his energy eye catching, and stage charisma hypnotizing. Miguel’s voice flows out the mass speakers Page 37

the same gifted, melodious crooning the way it’s heard through iPhone headsets; All I Want Is You, Power Trip, How Many Drinks, Quickie, Adorn, the stream of chart-topping singles are intensified by live instrumentation. I see, between splits and high notes, Miguel catch his breath with an interlude of crowd interaction. Confident and a bit cocky of his effect on women, Miguel even tells guys that his music does all the work, just put his CD on and enjoy the reward. If he isn’t already considered a star, I saw the potential, and understand the hype.

There was a moment where Drake, riding his flying saucer rose to the rafters, breathlessly shouting out descriptions of audience members.

“Would You Like A Tour” was a grand show, full of memorable moments to signify Drake’s reign. Atlanta showed him love as if it was indeed his second home, and in return we got one hell of a show.

Philips Arena played host to the amazing Andrea Bocelli I’m still in a state of shock that we were able to see Andrea Bocelli here in Atlanta! The performance was incredible, the fact that he was even here was incredible, and it was an amazing sight to see a sold-out Philips Arena for an opera singer! For those who aren’t familiar with the famous tenor, you might’ve seen him and didn’t know it was him. He’s on PBS quite often during telethons and various fundraising efforts. Or, perhaps you’ve seen his legendary performances in New York’s Central Park and Italy’s Portofino? Being blind since age 12 has not stopped Bocelli from achieving any of his dreams, finding love, or setting his mark on the world and in history. With over 14 solo albums he has sold over 80 million records worldwide! Another testament to Atlanta and it’s global appeal, we were fortunate enough to have Bocelli grace our beautiful city and the crowd definitely let him know he was loved.

The atmosphere was so alive while he performed. It was quiet enough to hear a pin drop and that was because when you heard him sing, it was hard to focus on anything else. He performed songs like “Ave Maria,” “I Found My Love In Portofino,” and “New York, New York.” If his performances weren’t amazing enough, we saw something we had never seen before. He returned to the stage for 6 encores! The arena went crazy every time he took a step downstairs, stopped, and returned to the microphone. Another pleasant surprise was the presence of the super talented Heather Headley. She performed by herself and sang a duet with Bocelli as well. Do yourself a favor and see him live if you have the opportunity. If you don’t, his album “Passione” is amazing! -Jon J. & Natalie Rojas

A3c Pro Audio Experience

iStandard hosts producer showcases throughout the year, but none would be as epic as the one during the A3C (All 3 Coasts) Festival. We at The Peach Review® believe in support and encouragement, which led 4 of us to go and attend the Pro-Audio Experience portion of A3C; to go and support our lovely friend Kels from iStandard. That was a first for all of us, going to the SAE Institute but it was a great time and we met a lot of people. The iStandard Showcase gave participants the opportunity to have their tracks heard by not only music lovers but industry professionals. A panel of judges graded each track and they had a chance to review it with the producer participating in the showcase. There was also a live performance by friend and fellow J.U.S.T.I.C.E. Leaguer Prime. This specific event was riddled with musical talent everywhere! We saw artists Prime and Loaded Lux, and producers Honorable CNote, Symphony, Sixteen, Focus, Knox of the Olympicks and more! A3C is annual so if you’re into hip-hop you should go next year. But if your appreciation is in the music then you must follow iStandard, they’re doing great things in the industry and help provide a platform for up-and-coming producers to get their music heard! -Jon J. The end of the summer rolled around, and with it came the 2013 Music Midtown Festival! This year’s festivities promised to be even bigger and better than previous years, boasting not only two, but three stages! While the main two stages alternated between acts, there was some overlap between these stages and the new Roxy stage, introducing more decisions for festival goers to make. At a festival brimming with talent, the decisions were difficult indeed. This year’s acts, as in previous years, had something for everyone and from many genres. Hip-hop lovers enjoyed Kendrick Lamar and Atlanta native, 2 Chainz, while indie-rock aficionados got their fill on acts such as The Mowgli’s, Tegan and Sara, and Arctic Monkeys. Variety was even offered in the big name acts which spanned from classic rock greats, Journey to the likes of talented newcomers, Imagine Dragons.

Pineda: Not really excited. Yeah, part of me is still very excited, but then the biggest part of me is wondering why now is this thing happening to me?

TPR: You said you listen to different styles, and try to take a little from each. What are some of your favorite artists or favorite music to listen to?

TPR: Well, your voice is amazing, Pineda: Oh, a lot! (enumerating) so I know why it happened to you. Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, The Beatles, Led Zepplin, Nancy Pineda: Thank you. But then, you Wilson Heart, U2, Just a lot. know, as you know, America’s a (continues to enumerate) big country. You’ve got almost 400 million very talented people TPR: Is there anyone that you’re On the first night of the festival, here. And, where I came from, excited to see here at all? very rare that you see someone actually… Pineda: Talking about Michael Jackson. We would sneak out into the back yard and copy all Pineda: Yeah, I’m still pretty much his dances, the way he grabbed his based there. The kids are still in crotch (laughing). school, so it’s hard. I don’t want to just uproot them. TPR (Laughing): I remember doing some of that too! Trying to TPR: When did you first come [to lean forward like in Smooth the US]? Pineda: Then officially, I was announced as a full member in December.

TPR: Thank you! Pineda: God bless you

TPR: So, how is the dynamic with the group? It just kind of meshes? Pineda: We’re getting better. You know, they had to feel me, I had to feel them. You know, it’s a different league. Where I came from, it’s not even a junior league. We’re cover bands there, you know. Even though we have our own thing, you know, we have our original music of the Philippines, it’s way, way off the league of what you guys do. No matter what happens, you guys are a blueprint, you know what I mean?

Only two hours later, Pineda and the rest of Journey completely rocked the crowd. The entire band delivered a phenomenal close to night one, while Pineda had everyone (including yours truly) either belting along to ballads like Open Arms or jamming out to America’s favorite, Don’t Stop Believin’.

Peppers closed out the festival. All of these issues, officials stated they will address for next year’s festivities. Overall, this year’s Music Midtown was truly a success, despite weather issues, and when we asked officials when they will start planning the next Music Midtown, they said that they have already started organizing and considering performers. If they are anything like this year’s I’m sure that more sold-out crowds can be expected.

TPR: It was great meeting you!

Aside from the acts, there were a few weather-related hiccups on day two of the festival. Rain, mud, and a sold-out crowd TPR: Yeah. So you see this very resulted in long lines, due to ticket often. JINGLE BALL 2013

Power 96.1’s Jingle Ball 2013, took place on Wednesday, December 11 at Philips Arena. Power 96.1’s Jingle Ball 2013 is part of the national iHeartRadio Jingle Ball 2013 Tour, the season’s biggest annual music event that captures the holiday spirit of the iHeartRadio app. Jingle Ball 2013 will include Robin Thicke, Miley Cyrus, Pitbull, Flo Rida, Travie McCoy, Austin Mahone, Fifth

Harmony, Armin Van Buuren and Bonnie McKee. For the second year in a row, Power 96.1’s Jingle Ball gave back to the community to celebrate the holiday season. This year’s official charity for Power 96.1’s Jingle Ball 2013 was the Ryan Seacrest Foundation – $1.00 of each ticket sold was donated to the non-profit organization, which is dedicated to inspiring today’s youth through entertainment and education focused initiatives.

The closest thing to compare this to is an indoor Music Midtown, because of the variety and the amount of people in attendance! Robin Thicke, Pitbull, and Austin Mahone in the same place? There’s no other place you’d find such a thing. The good thing (if you missed it) is that it’s an annual celebration! So you can go next year and remember to get there early.

ATLas Genius! There is, no doubt, a long list of great things Australia has given us. Among that list is: kangaroos and koala bears, Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, boomerangs…… and Atlas Genius. Atlas Genius is an alt-rock band hailing from Adelaide, Australia, that hit the scene only a few short years ago in 2009. Their debut album, When It Was Now, was released in February 2013. With the release of two catchy hit singles this year, “Trojans” and “If So”, these guys have jump started their American success and are making waves that any band would only dream of making with a debut album.

all you gamers, they can also be heard on FIFA 13. If you are an avid Radio 105.7 listener like I am, it is pretty likely you have caught yourself walking around singing “these troooojansss in my heaaaaad” to yourself (even before you knew who this band even was). Atlas Genius is a force to be reckoned with and I look forward to watching their career take off as they go into writing their second album after this fall’s tour. -Lauren Brumley

Drake- “Nothing Was the same” In just four years rapper Drake went from playing Jimmy Brooks on the Canadian drama series,Degrassi to selling out shows on his tour, aptly titled “Would You Like a Tour?” With his fourth project,“Nothing Was the Same” hitting number 1 on Billboard Charts and his Canadian home naming him the new “global ambassador” for the Toronto Raptors on September 30, 2013, Drake has a lot to celebrate and it shows in his new album. A line from the extended opening track with no hook, “Tuscan Leather”, sums up the measurement level of Drake’s confidence. “This is nothin’ for the radio, but they’ll still play it though./Cause it’s that new Drizzy Drake, that’s just the way it go.” There is some heavy truth to this despite hip-hop critics stating Drake is “too soft” and “wrapped up in his feelings”. Drake has made his own voice in hip hop by refusing to follow the same path as the current popular sound no matter what anyone says. It’s working for him and if nothing else the ladies love him for it, which provides him with more content to kiss and tell. His pattern of treating his album as a personal diary with a deliberate open lock doesn’t change on this album. In fact he seems to go deeper into his life including a hint at a fall out with YMCMB label mate, Nicki Minaj, as well as a slew of past girlfriends and family members. Drake still seems to be struggling with finding a balance between the “mo’ money mo’ problem” dilemmas that come with fame and the pure heart he wears on his sleeve. He captures this on “Furthest Thing” with the lyrics: “Somewhere between psychotic and iconic/Somewhere between I want it and I got it/Somewhere between I’m sober and I’m lifted/Somewhere between a mistress and commitment/But I stay down, girl I always stay down.” “Come Thru” sets up a nice night on the couch with your girl, some liquor and a subscription to Netflix. Plus it has a great tempo change midway through the song that is produced perfectly. “Hold On, We’re Going Home” is a feel good track and no doubt for the ladies with a Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones influence. “Connect” is Houston’s sound with a reference to baseball and the power women have over him.

For fans that don’t care who Drake is dating, sleeping with, or how things fell apart, there are still a few strong racks showing his love and respect for the hiphop greats Wu-Tang. On “Wu-Tang Forever”,“Own It” and “Pound Cake/Paris Morton Music” ft. Jay-z, Drake samples the classic Wu songs. “The Language”, “All Me” and “Started from the Bottom” are perfect for popping bottles in the VIP section at your local club venue. “Worst Behaviour” is dripping with arrogance about his come up. This is a song you want to play going back to your high school reunion after you ‘made it’ and blast to all the losers who used to pick on you. Plus it has a nice homage to my childhood crush, Ma$e. “305 to My City”seems like a favorite only to those who are strippers from Miami and looking for a special invite from Drake to the land of fries and gravy (Canada). With the two distinct Drake subjects on this project, the one song both kinds of Drake lovers can agree on is “From Time” ft. Jene Aiko. It is the smoothest most effortless track on the album. Drake is a storyteller. Storytellers in music connect with people and that is how they earn a lifetime residence in music. As Jimmy Smith say’s on a speech sample on the album: “Only real music is gonna last, all the other bull**** is here today and gone tomorrow.”

Jeff Lorber Fusion Hello TPR followers! For those of you who are Jeff Lorber fans, you are in for a real treat! In August, Jeff’s new CD “Hacienda” dropped, and I think you’ll find it has been worth the wait! I had the pleasure of first hearing Jeff play as lead man of the then Jeff Lorber Fusion; at that time he had settled down in the Portland, Oregon area (he’s a Philly native) and had been playing extensively up and down the west coast. My first JLF album was his 1978 “Soft Space”; from the moment I listened, I knew I was hooked. When I purchased “Wizard Island” two years later, I knew I was listening to someone special. There aren’t many artists who are associated with being responsible for the evolution of a musical genre — many people associate Grover Washington, Jr. as the impetus behind the smooth jazz genre; well, Jeff Lorber is often credited as being the stimulus of the term “jazz fusion”. I saw him in the late 70’s when he came thru San Francisco and played at The Old Waldorf on Battery St. I had seen many jazz artist play at The Old Waldorf, but on this particular night the audience got a real treat; the common theme that ran thru the JLF performance that night was — “Who’s the little guy killing that sax?”. Well, at the end of the set, Jeff announces that his sax player, Kenny Gorelick was going to be dropping his first solo album soon, and that we should look out for it. Needless to say, Kenny G., has been a household name ever since. But I digress... “Hacienda” features, not only Jeff on keyboards, but several added treats. If you’re a guitar lover, you won’t be disappointed with Paul Jackson Jr., as well as Eric Marienthal on saxophone, and special appearances by

Jeff Lorber Fusion Larry Koonse on guitar as well as iconic violinist Jean LucPonty (whom I also peeped back in the 70’s at the Berkeley Community Theater — but I’m digressing again). The entire body of work on “Hacienda” is outstanding; Lorber is superb on keyboards; he has always walked the fine line between technical and funky — kind of Herbie Hancockesque, but with his own special flare. Marienthal, whom most of us have come to identify with the alto, performs a beautiful solo on tenor on the opening cut “Corinaldo”, and guitarist Larry Koonse is featured on “Solar Wind”. I think you’ll enjoy this entire CD and it is well worth adding to your collection. Also, by the time this review is published, Jeff will have come and gone from the A-T-L — he recently performed at Wolf Creek Amphitheater along with Ken Ford, Phil Perry, and Gerald Albright; and what a performance it was. I just hope the audience appreciated what they were seeing / hearing. It’s always tough when you’re one of several acts to perform because of time constraints; but to have Jeff Lorber on keyboards and the magnificent Jimmy Haslip on bass was truly a treat! Check out the disc — you won’t be sorry!

J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League's name is stamped on the production of all of your favorite artist's projects. I would say their knowledge of what's hot is pretty well respected in the music game. With that being said the production trio has signed another artist from their hometown, Tampa, who goes by the name of Prime. With a fresh sound he will be releasing a mixtape after the New Year hosted by DJ Drama. In good company, Prime's newest single, "Flex" is produced by Honorable C.N.O.T.E. Putting Trevlon on this single added some more love for Tampa and his flow is a nice addition to this song. Being around major artists in the studio was a big influence for him. Artists such as Lloyd, Yo Gotti, Three Six Mafia, and Rick Ross displayed the type of work ethic that generates success, further motivating Prime to achieve rap greatness. The song opens up with a winning champion sound then drops right into the flexing. Even though it's December this song makes me reminiscent for the summer time. It paints a picture of him hopping out of a Benz onto a red carpet event. Lights, camera, action! There is a line asking "what ya gonna think though when ya play ya heart out and never win a ring like Marino?" Â I think everyone can relate to the ultimate fear of failure when chasing a dream. Prime tells us to forget those fears and enjoy the journey. Living life to the fullest, stress free, it sounds as if he was smiling in the booth recording this track. Finally he has made it and wants to live in this moment forever. The production is smooth and the futuristic sounds make me feel like I have a bright future ahead in a galaxy all my own if I would only let go and enjoy it. I'm looking forward to hearing more from this guy!

BLOCK ENTERTAINMENT October 12th we had the chance to stop by Block Enterprises and get a behind the scenes look of the goings-on in the studio. For those that don’t know, Block runs Diddy’s Bad Boy South label and is responsible for a myriad of artists in Hip-Hop and R&B. After his success with Boyz in the Hood he took a bit of a hiatus. But now he’s back and has a new lineup and a fresh cast to rebuild Hip-Hop “block by block”. Before I spoke with Block, I had the opportunity to speak with his new lineup: Kris Kelli, Lil Flo Malcom, Courtni Renei’, Reek Manikan, and 48 Slim. I mentioned to him that he had a humble young group of artists and I was impressed with their drive and focus. This is what he had to say: “You know some people get relaxed and get real cool once they get the money. But with every new artist you gotta start back over, but I’m starting to see the same big eyes, the same heart beat, the same fresh… you know the gallop is different, just the way they MOVE is even different! I mean we’re from 2 different islands but we’re from the Caribbean. But I do respect her, especially in a dog-eat-dog business like this, she’s a female, AND she’s from the Caribbean. So until I create that sound, that real distinct sound, that ‘I am Kris His passion for success and Kelli’ (mixtape) is going to give people creating good music can be seen in the a more in-depth look at who I am.” way he nurtures his artists. BLOCK ENTERTAINMENT The hustle and dedication can be felt by all members of the label. The unified aspect was supplemented by Reek: “I’m bringing a new delivery, a new sound, and dudes ain’t ready for what I’m bout to bring. Then I got introduced to Flo, Courtni Renei’, Kris Kelli, so we about to make magic so I’m just trying to win. At the end of the day I’m trying to win but at the end of the day it’s all about good music. If you don’t know me by nothin’ you gonna love my music.” The leadership and support are very apparent with Block, the focus can be seen from miles away in the new talent he’s recruited, and a more humbling moment came from rapper 48 Slim:

“My Grandma used to tell me when I was little ‘being at the wrong place at the wrong time you gonna get caught up in something and only one person gonna get you out of it and that’s God’ (and that happened). At first I was on some hood s*** but I know in my heart I wanted to do music. So if I turn my negative into a positive… I mean I look at it like God gave me a second chance, so I’m gonna focus my energy on this music.” All of this is just a preview of what’s to come. Music videos, mixtapes, live performances, and more are in the pipeline! We definitely have more to bring you so stay tuned when we check back with Block Enterprises! -Jon J. We have heard far too many people say “what’s that?” when we ask people if they’ve experienced Winter Wonderland. Do you see this?! It’s like a Holiday Carnival except it’s at night (it opens at 5pm). They have taken Turner Field and turned it into an international entertainment metropolis! The only place you’ll be able to see a glowing Sphynx, White House, and Eiffel Tower in one place. Global Winter Wonderland has graced us with their presence for a few weeks now and will be here through the new year. The great thing about Winter Wonderland is that you get a myriad of entertainment for one price! If you’re an adult you pay $25 to get in but included in that is carnival attractions, shots of all the illuminated figures, and access to whatever performance or highlighted entertainment is taking place. For example, if you went on December 19 once you were inside you didn’t have to pay extra to see Montell Jordan and Victory World Music, it comes with the price of the ticket! Each day they have different entertainment in musical performances, the UniverSoul Circus, fashion shows, and much more! GWW will be here until January 5th so make sure you visit during the holidays. The best times to go are during the week when there are less people (it gets really busy on weekends). We’ll show you a few places Global Winter Wonderland Atlanta will take you, but the rest you have to see for yourself!

SkyView

Have you ever gone downtown and thought to yourself “what in the world is that big ferris wheel?” That ladies and gentlemen is SKYVIEW, the newest attraction to hit Atlanta! This 200-foot tall construct is nestled in between Centennial Olympic Park Drive and Luckie Street. It’s an added attraction to The Loop and a beautiful sight in the evening. It has 42 climate controlled gondolas that stay cool in the summer and heat up in the winter. Each gondola has 360-degrees of windows so you can have a complete look at the world around you at all times. For those who desire an enhanced experience there’s a VIP gondola that has Ferrari leather seats, a glass bottom you can see through, a TV monitor, and a champagne bucket (this can seat up to 5 people). SkyView Atlanta can withstand winds up to 110mph (a Category 2 Hurricane), has a million LED lights, undergoes more than 100,000 computerized and manual safety checks every morning, and takes 3 hours to complete the daily safety inspection. So you can see this is not just a “ferris wheel.” SkyView Atlanta is an experience and one that everyone should enjoy at least once!

In his first career start at the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola, Henrik Stenson entered the final round with a four-shot advantage over Dustin Johnson and turned in a final-round 68 for a 3-stroke victory over Jordan Spieth and Steve Stricker, securing the 2013 FedExCup. He joins past FedExCup winners Brandt Snedeker (2012), Bill Haas (2011), Jim Furyk (2010), Tiger Woods (2007, 2009) and Vijay Singh (2008). In addition to the $1,440,000 first-place check, Stenson earns $10 million for winning the FedExCup. The TOUR Championship (known as The Tour Championship by Coca-Cola for sponsorship reasons) is a golf tournament that is part of the PGA Tour. It has historically been one of the final events of the PGA Tour season; prior to 2007, its field consisted exclusively of the top 30 money leaders of the past PGA Tour season. Beginning in 2007, it has been the final event of the fourtournament FedEx Cup playoff, and eligibility is determined by FedEx Cup points amassed throughout the season instead. While originally followed by the PGA Tour Fall Series, a realignment of the PGA Tour's season structure beginning in 2013 makes the Tour Championship the final event of the season.

So every year Atlanta hosts The TOUR Championship at the East Lake Golf Club. Now for those of you who have never been to a golf tournament, there is no better way to experience a golf tournament than the TOUR at East Lake. If you’re new to golf (or have never been to a tournament) we suggest going during the practice rounds (Tuesday or Wednesday). It’s very laid back and the players interact more with the fans than on match-days. Other players who participated this year include: Sergio Garcia, Webb Simpson, Dustin Johnson, Justin Rose, Roberto Castro, Jason Dufner, Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk, Adam Scott, Hunter Mahan, Tiger Woods, and so many more. Be sure to check PGA Tour often for updates and when there may be a tournament by you!

Georgia Tech The 2013 regular season is over for the ramblin’ wreck. The Yellow jacket football program has a lot to be proud of this season. With school and conference records being set this season, they finished the season above .500 and they accepted a bowl bid. They’ll be playing in the Music City Bowl in Nashville, TN on December 30 against Ole Miss.

We’ve attended Tech home games the entire season and can tell you its a great experience. The faculty, the students, the band, the whole Bobby Dodd Stadium experience as a whole, is just a good time. Therefore, if you missed out this season, then you have to attend a game next season. For those not familiar with Grant Field (Bobby Dodd Stadium) it’s right off of North Avenue (literally). You can’t see it from the highway because its shrouded by trees. The view from the stadium’s upper deck gives a beautiful view of Midtown and downtown.

We’ve provided pictures from Tech’s homecoming win against Pitt and their epic battle against in-state foe Georgia. As if a rivalry game isn’t exciting enough, this one went into overtime. 2013 hosted one of the best rivalry weekends we’ve ever Page witnessed! Enjoy the photos and go Tech! 64

The Pittsburgh Panthers QB Tom Savage was running a clinic as they marched to the Jackets side of the field. But luckily for Tech, Defensive End Jeremiah Attaochu came up big with 2 crucial tackles to force multiple 3rd down situations. But finally Savage made 1 mistake that cost him as Safety Jemea Thomas made an interception with 33 seconds left in the game, ending the Panthers’ hopes for a comeback. So with 2 victory formations, the Jackets ended the game 21-10. It was a great victory for the Jackets and increased

their record to 6-3 at this point in the season. Homecoming at Georgia Tech was a fantastic experience and we hope you come and experience it yourself next year! Page 65

In the 2 years we’ve been covering Georgia Tech football, this was by far the most exciting game we’ve seen. This double overtime thriller was part of the most exciting rivalry weekend in years. All eyes were on Michigan State v Ohio State, Georgia V Georgia Tech, and Alabama v Auburn. I can remember the game going into overtime and losing sight of my cameraman because of the craziness. It was a very cold evening game but the crowd kicked the excitement into 2nd gear! The game wasn’t like that from the beginning though, the ramblin’ wreck started off the game with NFL-type accuracy with their offense. It was UGA and their 2nd half adjustments that took this into overtime. Although the Jackets lost they still have a lot to be proud of with their season overall. Often you’ll hear about how Georgia is the “football school.” With the way things have gone in recent years, we guarantee Tech will have something to say about that next year. Because they definitely made a game to remember out of this one! -Jon J. Photography: Homecoming- X Rivalry Game- Hakim Wright

So now we shift gears from the ACC to the Sun Belt. The Georgia State Panthers play their home games at the Georgia Dome downtown. This year marks some big milestones for the Panthers, including the hiring of Head Coach Trent Miles and their first year playing in the Sun Belt Conference. Just being at the Dome is a lot of fun but coming here for a game is great too. The crowd is interactive, there’s always great giveaways, the lines for concessions are never long, and of course, you’re supporting the home team! Although GSU went winless this year, we were present to witness some great games, and most of their games were close losses as opposed to blowouts. There’s always kinks to work out when dealing with anything new and the same goes for football.

When GSU hosted the University of LouisianaLafayette Ragin’ Cajuns they lost 35-21. But they lost the game off of 2 costly turnovers, mental errors that can be corrected. They were neck-and-neck with ULL until the 3rd quarter and I don’t think they did that bad against the top team in the conference. I like their choice in hiring Trent Miles and the schools’ forthrightness in getting the school promoted to a notable, respectable football conference. This season can be labeled one for experience and growth. Did you know that the Panthers played the top school in their conference and the country? If you didn’t follow their season they played an away game against the Alabama Crimson Tide (who were ranked #1 overall at the time). Every game we attended was exciting and we’re hopeful for an awesome 2014! All content and images are property of The Peach Review® unless otherwise noted

ATLANTA FALCONS

Falcons hang on to win in closing seconds If Saturday hasn’t quenched your thirst for football, you’re fortunate enough to have another opportunity on Sunday! On December 15, the Falcons took on the Washington Redskins at home in the Georgia Dome. The game was riddled with turnovers on both sides and at one point there were 3 fumbles in 10 seconds. The 3rd quarter was filled with lots of action as we saw another fumble, an interception, and multiple changes of possession. Unfortunately, all of that action didn’t convert into many points as the Falcons outscored the Redskins a mere 7-3. But the upside to this is that at least it didn’t get any worse. With 7 total turnovers at this point and copious dropped passes the score differential could’ve been much greater. Also something to note, Tony Gonzalez went over 15,000 receiving yards this quarter (a huge milestone for a Tight End). The 4th quarter began with the Falcons up 24-20 and they were starting to feel the pressure. With a record that’s nothing to brag about they definitely did not want to happen what has plagued them the past 3 seasons: Starting the game strong and then losing. The first quarter and a half saw Falcons dominance, and then they slowly let Washington back in the game by Halftime. We couldn’t go too far into the 4th quarter without another fumble and an interception (9 turnovers at this point). With Matt Bryant’s 51-yd FG the Falcons went up 27-20 but still couldn’t find a rhythm.

The Redskins stayed within reach the entire quarter even down til there was 0:28 seconds left in the game. But Kirk Cousins, possibly establishing why he should be the starter, found Santana Moss in the corner for the touchdown. Coach Shanahan got a little greedy and chose to go for 2 instead of kicking the PAT. So with 0:18 seconds left the Redskins were down 26-27. Had they just kicked the point-after they’d be heading comfortably into overtime. So that’s how the game ended after the failed 2-pt conversion, the Falcons outlasted Washington 27-26. The Falcons play their last home game of the season on December 29 against the Carolina Panthers. Its not only the last game of the season but quite possibly the last game for league-favorite Tony Gonzalez. -TPR Photography: Anna Lira All content and images are property of The Peach Review® unless otherwise noted
