About Us

Founded in 2016 The Pedestal was established by Guy Savill and Sally Stratton MRICS, both well-known figures in the auction industry.

At The Pedestal we maintain a strong and varied network of connections ranging from collectors and dealers, to tax and heritage professionals and advisers, conservators and specialist transporters. We cover the whole spectrum of disciplines at all levels through a large group of highly qualified and experienced experts.

The business is based in Henley-on-Thames with easy access to London, Oxford, The Cotswolds and the Home Counties.

We have an established local, national and international presence combined with the expertise to operate across the auction world. Property in our sales is consigned and bought by clients living close to our Oxfordshire premises, throughout the country and around the world.

The sales calendar at The Pedestal features an extremely wide and exciting range of collecting categories with a regular programme of auctions. We are uniquely placed to handle diverse and wide-ranging consignments. We manage the whole dispersal process and will act as a single point of contact for the client or Executors, from the provision of advice, auction recommendations and estimates and house clearance through to the payment of sale proceeds ensuring that no delays are incurred to the closure of the estate.

Auction Marketing and Promotion

We present our auctions in an online format on our website with property accompanied by well researched cataloguing, footnotes and multiple images of individual lots. In the days leading up to the live auction lots can be viewed at our premises.

We promote our auctions through social media, print advertisements and newsletters and we list our auctions on third party platforms where commission bids may be left in advance, or clients can bid in real time as the auction takes place.

Valuation Services at The Pedestal

The Pedestal offers valuations to suit differing needs including:

Valuations for selling at Auction or by Private Treaty

From a single item to a specialist collection, The Pedestal undertakes free and confidential valuations for items to be offered for sale. Our specialists will provide advice on the best route to market as well as the relevant timings. We are available to meet clients in their homes, at storage facilities, offices or at bank vaults.

Valuations for Probate and Inheritance Tax

The Pedestal produces Probate valuations in accordance with Section 160 of the Inheritance Tax Act, 1984 and all work is completed by a RICSqualified art and antiques valuer. We have access to a specialist team of valuers handling probate valuations for the assessment of inheritance tax liability. We can then guide you through the consigning of items to our auctions and complete clearance of a property if required.

Valuations for Insurance

It is important to maintain up-to-date valuations of personal property and valuables so that in the unfortunate event of a claim the right level of cover is in place. The Pedestal provides valuations covering fine art, precious objects, such as jewellery, watches and silver, and other valuable personal items.

Valuations for Family and Matrimonial Division

The Pedestal provides valuations of art, antiques and jewellery for the purposes of family and matrimonial division. Our valuation specialists offer a discreet and professional service.
