SENIOR WILLS

The Pen newspaper senior staff says their final goodbyes

Oh my word. I cannot believe my time in H52 is coming to a close. I, EMILY MCGINN, will Rianne, Asumi and Ana unique designs, quality articles and my beautiful, comfortable chair behind the leadership desk next year. To Ana, I will many more perfectly accurate pica boxes on InDesign and my gratitude for being one of the few people on staff who actually knows how to pronounce pica correctly. To Asumi, I will the ability to remember not to leave her belongings in H52 every day and editors who know the correct page dimensions for InDesign layouts. I will Jadyn a fantastic year as yearbook EIC, 0.3-millimeter pens that she does not hate, a computer case that does not have Velcro, a swear jar that is always filled with candy (not Snickers or Twizzlers), my hatred of Kylo and joint custody of Milo with Asumi. To Milo and my two favorite chairs, I will my eternal love and a long life in H52. I will Rachel a relationship with a random guy named James who she meets at a boba shop near her college. To Yaseen, I will the ability to walk into the journalism room without being stressed about APUSH. I will Josh many more hours of looking at memes and many “oh my word” moments in the future. I will Chris effective tricep workouts, utensils and Chick-fil-A sauce from the drawer of the leadership desk and my eternal gratitude for roasting Alison every day during lunch. I will my co-EIC Nina (Quinn) many future trips to Michael’s, long shopping trips that lead her to impulsively spend money, future visits to Lego stores in random cities across the country, a playlist that has less music from Ariana Grande on it, the knowledge that Florida is not located in the Midwest and eternal pride in her amazing handwriting. To Alison (Peggie), I will grande vanilla lattes at Starbucks, happiness every time she sees the truck layout from issue five of student life last year, more legible handwriting, my love of White Collar and many more unintentionally strange laughs. Thank you Quinn and Peggie for being a great leadership team, for loving the color purple as much as I do, for being left-handed and for being great friends for the past four years. Thank you to JJ and the entire staff for guiding me through these four years and I will the future staff of The Pen newspaper the passion to make it amazing for years to come.

I, NINA LI, will Rianne Aguas, Asumi Shuda and Ana Willoughby an endless supply of cardstock and pens, insightful meetings with Mr. Combs and Jeremy Zucker on repeat, respectively. You guys are going to kill it next year and I am so proud to have seen all of you grow so much over the past few years. To Emilio McGinn, my beloved co-EIC who I know loves me more than she lets on, I will a constant reminder of my bowel movements and the songs associated with them, strange trips to random chocolate stores, foot cramps from shopping too much, a room full of Star Wars keychains, unlimited flaming Hot Cheetos, a haircut and the many facetime calls that I will be making during our time in college. Thank you for putting up with me and never being too annoyed, I wish I was your college roommate. To Peggie, my da tou, I will flaming red hair, a permanent set of acrylic nails, thousands of trips to TJ Maxx, a recording of my Alison impersonation and some handwriting lessons. My love for you outweighs my hate (sometimes), and I am so proud of everything you have done this year and will continue to do next year in college. To Alex, I will Mr. Karg to send all of his graphic design students to join the team. To Annie annie bo bannie banana fana fo fannie, I will many more midnight talks, a warm jacket, driving at the speed limit, falling in the middle of the crosswalk and a job at Google. To Chris Piss, I will “bad gifts”, a date with all the Twice girls, a ceramic bowl filled with pink starbursts and a closet full of your dad’s clothes. To Joshe, I will you dogma. To Justin Michael Kim, I will many lollipops, Umenoya and boba trips and sunny days with you. To my World Changers, I will constant initiative and endless Ted talks. To Compass Club, I will passion and determination for the journey ahead. To all my seniors on staff, I will a spirit of determination and triumph in the face of adversity. To JJ, the strongest teacher I know, I will sleep because you are probably lacking that. I know Rylee will grow up to be amazing (look at her mom). To the Pen Newspaper staff, I will a constant determination to dig deeper and go further in your articles and layouts. Thank you guys for making H52 my home for the past four years, and I cannot wait for the beautiful issues to be mailed to me each month. Quote of the day: If you want the rainbow, you got to put up with the rain. I, ALISON KIM, will Asumi, Rianne and Ana their last year leading The Pen with three years of vast knowledge and perfected direction, filled with more monthly Dominos pizza and no fruit, personal clipboards and continual love for Bebas. To Olin and Amira, “Mr. Perfect Attendance” and “Wait, Do You Have Something To Do During First”, my favorite dynamic duo and wild childs, I will my Taco Bell virginity and endless love for spontaneous hair dying. Y’all bring out my crazy side and I love y’all for it. To Chris, I will the coveted title, “Bangs Bully of the Year”, money to get his esophagus checked out so he doesn’t choke on Chick-Fil-A again, actual biceps and triceps and every pair of Twice merch imaginable. To Jadyn, I will (and force) my protective custody of Kylo and a zero period class without such an annoying person in front of her. To Zoe, my guiding light and the designated mother of journalism, I will more FaceTime updates and therapy sessions together sprinkled with emotional discussions of One Tree Hill. To Quinn, my TJ Maxx partner, the ultimate proponent of the “Colors” song and Quotes of the day and my own personal impersonator, I will her the ability to not passive aggressively erase my writing on the whiteboard and replace it with hers and many more chipotle bowls minus the stomach aches. To Emilio, I will continual visits to Regals and Island fries next year on campus, my love for MCU, our love for LAUV, limitless Extra spearmint gum, the inability to forget our BFF Scott Phillips, the ability to secretly hold laughs during photo shoots and more trips to the Habit while I eat my burger and she sips her Starbucks. Thanks for attending to my dependency issues. To my co-leadership, thank you for such a close support system and bond that I know will transcend across the country. Thank you guys for being my newspaper sisters and my closest companions. To JJ, my second mother and beloved mentor for 4 years, I will a fun time going to the bathroom. To H52 and all who were part of this crazy family, I will my endless love and just as much energy and passion I have for the paper. Keep kicking butts and ruffling feathers. I love y’all 3000. I, CHRIS GUANZING, will Asumi all the mayonnaise the world has to offer because of your odd obsession with mayo. To Minji: I will to you all the ins and outs of InDesign, as well as luck with every hapa boy you meet. To my co-editor Ana: I will to you the correct pronunciation of the word ‘pica’, because deep down you know it is “pie-ka.” To Helen: I will to you an efficient, and hopefully stress-free, year of graphics; you got this dude. To Kristen: I will to you a years worth of creative and aesthetically pleasing layouts. To Alex: I will to you all the spelling mistakes I have made on my graphic requests. To Rianne: I will to you many nights of seven plus hours of sleep, because I know you will need them for the next eight issues ahead of you. To Brianna: I will to you a happy future with Jeon Jungkook. To Anne: I will to you my best friend JungIn Kim. To Airmitchellin: I will to you leggings that do not show all your sweat. To Alison: I will to you student integrity and a cure to bronchitis. To Emily: Oh my word, I will to you a social media account that is actually ran and owned by you. To Nina: I will to you all the planners and toilet paper you could ever need. Last but not least, to JJ: I will to you the many bright and hardworking future staff members that can hopefully answer the phone better than I could.

I, JOSHUA KIM, will Alex Yoo the ability to create any humanoid figure in Adobe Illustrator and understand half of its functions. To Jadyn, I will many long and stressful nights of publication work. To Asumi, Rianne, and Ana, I will my procrastination and skill to somehow cobble together a good product last minute. To Minji, I will my neverending snarkiness and sass to spice up journalism a little bit. To Yaseen, I will the mantle of awkwardly asking for a 15-person reservation and the spontaneous urge to show up to newspaper on time at least to the point it is not suspicious. To Fiona Anderson, I will you the amounts of coffee you are gonna need to get through endless opinion edits. This newspaper helped in more ways than I ever imagined. I joined at possibly the lowest time in my life, and this publication helped me understand my community and find friends in places I never thought I would. I, RACHEL LIU, will H52 a candy jar full of M&M’s and Skittles (and no Twizzlers) all school year. I will Emily McGinn the comfiest chair she can find, Nina Li many a Michael’s trip and Alison Kim lots of Starbucks drinks. For Asumi Shuda, I will successful issues in the future. Lastly, I will Alex Yoo some new graphics members to boss around. I, AMIRA BELHEDI, will all to YOLO especially Olin, Liana, Alison, Rylee and JJ. I, OLIN OSBORNE III, will y’all a healthy planet. I, SAFFY LAURIO, will Minji perfect Latin declensions. To Asumi, I will at least an attempt at less stress. To Liana, I will tea spilling sessions that last forever. To Rachel, I will relief from meticulous graphics edits. To JJ, I will a daughter that kicks as much butt as her. To Bea and Courtney, I will (spam), eggs and rice. To Emma and Sarah, I will another Inchcolm Day. To Tyler, I will less back pain. To the remaining newspaper staff, I will on-time articles and willing interviewees. To the graduating newspaper staff, I will passion and success no matter where your life takes you. I, LIANA KOROTZER, will JJ endless gratitude for everything she has done for this staff and all my love for her and Rylee. To Amira Belhedi, I will many hulk smashes, sad nae naes and an adventure-filled year at Berkeley. To Olin Osborne, I will multi-colored outfits, NextDoor tea and all the Doritos locos tacos he can eat. Things I will Ana Willoughby: love, support and an unforgettable senior year. To Saffy Laurio, I will a year filled with really good ribs and episodes of My Big Fat Greek Wedding. To Nina Li, Emily McGinn and Alison Kim, I will a million thanks for everything you have done for this publication and an amazing freshman year. To Anne Lee and Josh Kim, I will a happy college life and a warm winter coat. To Rianne Aguas and Asumi Shuda, I will InDesign that works and early post paste ups all year round. Finally, to everyone on staff, I will my appreciation for countless memories and for truly making H52 my home.
