next year’s staff.
I, Caitlyn Lee, will Jeremy Kim and Audrey Lin monumental editorials, overachieving staff members and lots of caffeine. Jeremy, I admit that I was the chief culprit who “accessorized” your board (Your idea was good in theory, but the execution pained me). I know you are very capable and will be a great EIC. To Audrey, my little sister and #1 concert partner, I will creative authority on covers and the chance to show Ocean Vuong your amazing work one day (still waiting for a dark Totoro poem). Keep using your strong voice to support minorities! I will Nomi Tsogmagnai affordable pit
seats to a Taylor Swift concert and all the beautiful Excel spreadsheets to keep the staff organized. To my newspaper day one and co-captain, Keila Bara, I will good iced coffee, the coolest film journal and a y/n moment with Matthew Gray Gubler. I will Hannah Corr, Makayla Lui, Jenna Long, Clara Reckhorn and Victoria Rhodes, the best college experiences and sky high GPAs. Seniors, we’ve made it. Hannah (Mork), additionally, I will SEVENTEEN tickets and the ability to survive after eating sesame. I will the 2022-23 editors productivity, smoothsailing issues, and perfect angels for
writers. I will JJ, my favorite teacher, aesthetically pleasing editor boards as well as the ability to seamlessly multitask between parenting two lovely ladies (Rylee & Remi<3) and advising the publication. And to everyone else on staff, you are all wonderful people who I am happy to call my 2nd family — I wish I could share even a fraction of the amazing experience I had in newspaper. So much love for H52. I’ll miss you all!
I, Keila Bara, will Jeremy and Audrey smooth-running pasteups and the proper amount of sleep each night. You will both kill it as EICs, and I cannot wait to see all you accomplish next year. To Nomi, I will you an organized year without too much stress. You truly are superhuman juggling all you do, and you never fail to impress me. To Caitlyn, my lovely co-EIC and partner in crime this year, I will you more concert tickets, all the creativity in the world for your writing and the most incredible experience at UCSB. Spending the past four years on staff with you has been incredible, and I am so grateful to have had you by my side as we navigated this hectic year. To Jenna, Hannah, Makayla and Clara, I will you all the success in the world as you go off to college. It has been fun suffering alongside you guys during our stressful afternoons in the
library study rooms. Jenna, I wish you great health and no need to get any surgeries or go under anesthesia anytime soon. Hannah, you are such a hard worker and will do great things in college, at med school and beyond. Makayla, I cannot wait to stalk your Instagram as you go on to live the dream in NYC--I am so excited for you to go to the coolest city in the world. Clara, you are such a light and I know you will succeed wherever you go--I will visit you in Germany one day and we can go to a cool German club. To Vic, I am so proud of all you have accomplished and know you will continue to be the genius you are. I will you the best Spotify playlists and the coolest travel opportunities to Europe, and I cannot wait to visit you in your perfectly decorated London home one day. To Zahra, McKenna, Juliette, Josie and Alena, the
incoming editors who will continue to make this publication amazing, I cannot wait to see what wonderful and creative layouts you come up with next year, and I am so confident you will continue to keep The Pen’s spirit alive. And of course, to JJ, I will you a calm household that allows you to get some much deserved rest, and I hope the publications run smoothly next year. I cannot thank you enough for all you have done for me and for the publication as a whole these past four years; you truly are superhuman and I do not know how you are able to do all that you do. All my love to Rylee and Remi as well! H52 has been my home for the past four years, and I will miss it and everyone deeply.
I, Makayla Lui, will Hana Rivera the best of luck with leading the business and advertising team next year. I am thankful for your consistency throughout the year and I wish you great success in finding businesses for advertising and increasing revenue for The Pen. To Caitlyn Lee and
Keila Bara, thank you for leading this program and continually showing a great attitude despite such a difficult school year. I applaud your diligence, patience and willpower all throughout! To the future members of The Pen, I wish you guys the best of luck in pitching interesting stories
and pumping out enticing stories to read. I am so thankful for my time working with the newspaper and I am especially appreciative of the wonderful staff on The Pen for making my experience so enjoyable.
I, Victoria Rhodes, will next year’s staff a great year with many wonderful stories and successful
issues. I will JJ many amazing memories with her new staff and her new baby. To the graduating staff, I
will you so much luck, prosperity, and happiness in your future.
