Swimming to save the ocean NOMZAMO YUKU @NomzamoYuku

T

wo Hout Bay swimmers helped fight the battle against ocean pollution by tackling a 3km swim at Hout Bay Harbour on Sunday 27 January.

In a quest to raise awareness about ocean pollution, especially plastic pollution, swimmers Laura Paarman and Bernie Manzoni started the swim just after 08:00 and were cheered on by Hout Bay residents. The theme for their swim was “Fighting, commitment, understanding and kindness”.

They say the swim was not too hectic as they had been swimming since childhood.

They say the only challenge was the state of the water in the morning with potential dan-

gerous waves at the Leopard side resulting in the challenge having to start from Mariner’s.

“I have been swimming since I was a small child and I swim on a regular basis, so doing a 3km swim is quite easy. I have often encountered pollution in the water which has certainly affected my ability to enjoy swimming,” says Paarman.

The two say they saw the need to save marine life through different channels.

They started being involved by helping with the ordinary harbour cleanup and saw how huge the need was and so decided to go the extra mile. “I have always felt very connected to the ocean. We clean the harbour often, assisted by youths from Hangberg. I wear a shirt covered in non-recyclable items

such as chip packets, sweet and chocolate wrappers, etc. This draws a lot of attention, and I am constantly asked questions, particularly by foreigners. This is an ideal opportunity to talk about the consequences of polluting the ocean and what the long-term dangers are. Nothing happens without effort, and we feel that the more awareness we create, the more people start to understand the need to protect and respect the environment,” she says.

Paarman says a bit of effort from everybody to clean up the environment and avoid polluting would go a long way towards saving the ocean.

Manzoni says plastic poses a great risk to marine life, and it is only if everyone understands the implications that they will know

why they need to protect the environment.

He says the aim of taking on the challenge was to show the seriousness of the matter and engage people in a fun way.

The initiative was organised by James Wrey, the founder of Hout Bay Harbour Cleanup. He says that what Paarman and Manzoni are doing for the community is “quite amazing”. He says making a difference starts with an individual and he is thankful to all the volunteers who spare time to cleanup and spread the word.

“We are busy organising another swim by one of our volunteers. The purpose is growing and exciting for us. Every little bit of help counts and can save a life.”

Campaign to fight bullying NOMZAMO YUKU @NomzamoYuku

P

lumstead High School in partnership with the newly found School Revival non-profit organisation (NPO) launched an anti-bullying campaign on Friday 1 February.

The launch started with a group of learners standing by the fence holding placards with messages against bullying.

They then proceeded to the assembly where the founder of the NPO, Verline Leo, and teachers and guests explained bullying and its consequences to the learners.

Learners also got an opportunity to speak about the topic, with two of them confessing to being survivors of bullying.

Leo said: “We were stunned by the two brave learners who came forward to admit having experienced bullying and how it affected them. We hope that inspired other learners to open up as well. With the campaign we aim to tackle it with love and teach ethics, care and respect for each other.

“We even made an example about those learners who sit in the corner alone and never talk. We told them they can start by inviting them to come along to the tuckshop or just sit with them. In this

way we can collectively change their mindsets and be able to eradicate bullying.”

Leo said the campaign is going to involve schools from various communities and will also host different programmes where they hope to be able to engage the department of education and other stakeholders and speak in one voice. With this said, they plan to have a big inter-schools dialogue and an antibullying campaign concert towards the end of the year.

Craig George, the school principal, said the campaign had a good start as learners seemed comfortable about the topic.

He admitted that although he is not aware of any recent incidents at the school, bullying, including cyberbullying, is still a serious issue in schools.

“Our focus is to teach about antibullying with love, hence we are encouraging all schools to participate in our competition that challenges them to create a mural with messages against bullying.”

Hurriah Lekoto, a learner, said she liked the campaign because it created a comfortable platform to speak out. She said it is necessary to get involved in these campaigns because “bullying is real.”

Feeding others with their pension NOMZAMO YUKU @NomzamoYuku

A

group of 10 elderly women from St Luke’s Anglican Church in Bergvliet are determined to continue feeding the empty tummies of the homeless people from in and around their community.

One of the members, Magdalene Poggenpoel, says this is part of carrying on the legacy of the church, as the initiative was started

by the church leaders many years ago and she and the rest of the members have since taken over. She says although they have to dig into their pockets as pensioners, they have over the years realised the need as the number of homeless people has grown. She says that looking at the issue in a holistic manner, they got to understand that not all those living on the streets are vagrants, but some are people who “unfortunately” cannot afford the cost of living. “They have fam-

ilies and deserve to be treated with dignity.

Sadly, some of those who used to come to our soup kitchen many years ago passed on living under the same circumstances. We are not a formal organisation so we do not have any funding, but we believe we still make a difference and they have something to look forward to once in a while.”

These elderly women serve meals to up to 100 homeless people every first Sunday of the month.

Poggenpoel says the numbers differs every month as some of the homeless also receive social grants and manage to survive the first days of the month.

Relying solely on their pockets, they welcome donations from all corners of life and at this stage, she says they mostly receive support from church members and a local supermarket.

Short payments for EPWP workers explained NOMZAMO YUKU @NomzamoYuku The City of Cape Town has acknowledged miscommunication with its Expanded Public Works Programme following the recent protest by the workers over short pay. A group of 20 employees reportedly took to the

streets after their overtime for the December holidays was not paid in on the morning of Monday 21 January. According to reports they littered the harbour, demanding that the City attend to their grievances.

Mayco member for water and waste services, Xanthea Limberg, says their grievances were immediately attended to.

She says the short payment affected 41 workers who come from the disadvantaged communities of Hout Bay including Imizamo Yethu and Hangberg. “To clarify, all other wages were paid. The City pays EPWP workers every fortnight. Overtime payments still due to the workers will be paid along with their next wages. The City met

with workers and explained the way forward on Thursday 24 January. Any inconvenience caused is regretted.”

Limberg says the City has now taken it seriously that they should be addressing the subject of overtime payments with new EPWP programme inductees, “so they are aware of what to expect in future.”

It will take two hours to complete and participants are advised to be ready to be fingerprinted and must have a clear criminal record and be in possession of a valid ID or passport. Trained patrollers will serve the

Kirstenhof police precinct.

Beverley Hibbert, BKM’s office coordinator, says they have vacancies for eight new patrollers and community members are encouraged to join and be the eyes and ears of the community, working closely with the police and Law Enforcement.

Among their duties, Hibbert says they should be ready to help and be involved in making arrests and searches.

“Sadly only about one third of our regis-

tered patrollers are actively patrolling, which is unfortunate. Members need to be able to commit to a minimum of two hours per month to patrol. The only community safety [workers] in our area are the Community Medics, of which we do have a couple who reside within the BKM area.”

Hibbert says the more committed and active the patrollers are, the easier it will be to attract more people to get involved.

Have your say on licence fee increase T

he Provincial Government Gazette has published the draft regulation pertaining to motor vehicle licence (MVL) fee increases in the province. The draft regulation is open for public comment until Friday 8 February.

It has been published to allow the more than two million vehicle owners in the Western Cape an opportunity to submit their comments.

This year, the proposed fee increases amount to an average 3% for the Western Cape, a figure well below inflation.

The Western Cape Provincial Government relies on vehicle licence fees to: . build, upgrade and maintain the provincially owned road network. . assist municipalities to fund the maintenance of their more strategic roads. . continue to reduce the maintenance backlog, which has been decreased by over 16% over the last seven years.

According to the government these fees, along with budgetary allocations, help keep the province’s roads in a good condition.

During the 2017/18 financial year 94.8% of vehicle kilometres travelled on surfaced roads were travelled on roads in fair or very good condition. In the same period 63 080m2 of surfaced roads were upgraded, 915 772m2 of surfaced roads were rehabilitated, 45 997km of gravel roads were bladed and 22km of gravel roads were upgraded to surfaced roads. This is in addition to the construction or upgrading of six bridges and 76 culverts. Roads are an asset with an approximate value of R68bn and they are consumed, over time, by the close to two million vehicle owners in the Western Cape and other users A total of 7019km of provincial roads are in a fair to very good condition, says the provincial government.

The draft regulation has been published in the Provincial Gazette Extraordinary 8027 dated Wednesday 9 January for public comment.

‘Say no to abortion’ NOMZAMO YKU @NomzamoYuku

bout 100 people, young and old, from around Cape Town gathered outside National Assembly on Thursday 31 January to protest against the Choice on Termination of Pregnancy Act (Act 92 of 1996).

Organised by the Africa Christian Action (ACA), a Claremont-based non profit organisation, the march began at Keizersgracht, with all the participants dressed in black to show solidarity and to mourn all the babies “killed” through abortion.

The protest was peaceful and was followed by a funeral-like proceeding involving prayers for the souls of the unborn babies that have been aborted over the years since the legalisation of abortion in South Africa.

There was no memorandum – organisers say they have been addressing the matter with government for years and they now carry on with faith that one day, members of parliament will hear their cry and realise

the aftermath that comes with abortion.

As such, they held an hour-long prayer led by pastors from different local churches.

There were also talks by various speakers including other pro-life organisations, member of parliament Pieter Groenewald of the Freedom Front Plus, and Melissa Hertz who once had an abortion.

Hertz shared her testimony and how she founded her organisation Projectlife.

All present sang one tune – that abortion is a sin and should be abolished.

The protesters said the concern is not just the ending of an “innocent” life, but the consequences of abortion.

Taryn Lourens, the coordinator, said: “Abortion does not end with the termination of pregnancy and the physical health issues, as the Bible is clear that if we take a life there will be consequences. Those women that go through abortion struggles immensely with psychologically after-effects, ending up with depression and/or suicidal thoughts. Some of them regret having an abortion but sup-

press those feelings and end up abusing alcohol.”

She said that some of the women do not get to talk about their abortion ever again, except for the few hours of counselling they get at the clinic, will return to society and deal with it silently, “causing so much pain no-one knows about.”

Hertz is living testimony to this.

She had an abortion at 14 when she and her boyfriend decided they were not ready to be parents.

She was afraid, thinking she would not be a good mother. She says that although she went about the abortion the legal way, it tormented her for years until she found consolidation in speaking about it and helping out other women who were through the same pain.

“It caused so much grief and heartache for me. It’s for this reason that I am so passionate about the cause of helping women postpregnancy and who had an abortion, to deal with the emotions because a lot of people ex-

perience guilt and suicidal tendencies after abortion because it causes a lot of psychological harm.”

Someone who decided to support the initiative due to his experience was Jaco Dippenaar who says he has been against abortion his entire life, but he realised its severe consequences when he and his wife were advised to abort their unborn daughter by a doctor that believed the she would have severe deformities.

“We decided against it because she belonged to the Lord and had a right to life. Today she is almost 11 and perfectly fine.”

Dippenaar says abortion is just a justification of sin and a way of saying people can just take away the pregnancy, “whereas that is not true”.

Pastor Mark Parris of Durbanville Community Church says this was a good opportunity to spread the message and he hopes many people will support such initiatives.

He says the more younger people get involved the better, “as it is the young generation that thinks being pregnant is a minor thing that can be easily dealt with”.

“That’s why many people today suffer with anxiety and depression because they realise what they have done and that they are guilty of taking a life. We can prevent that by having young women and men aware of the consequences and avoid having to deal with unwanted pregnancy.”

Groenewald says his involvement was an attempt to act against hypocrisy by government members who despite legalising abortion still seek the help of God once they are in trouble. He says his party has from the start opposed the legalisation of abortion. He warned young women to be responsible and avoid unwanted pregnancies.

However, he says they understand that in some circumstances unwanted pregnancy can happen due to the unfortunate circumstance of rape: “Even in the Bible we see certain justification for an abortion up to a certain stage.”

Dr Rebecca Hodes, a medical historian based at the University of Cape Town, says criminalising abortion will not stop abortion – instead it will force women to do it illegally, putting more lives at risk. She says the Department of Health and the police need to actively enforce laws in fighting illegal abortions.“When a woman is desperate nothing can stop her from taking any risk,” she says.

Mayco member for safety and security JP Smith said the sheer volume of work that gets done is staggering and he doesn’t think many people fully appreciate it.

“It is also worth noting that the City’s Safety and Security Directorate is likely the most transparent public safety agency in terms of accounting to the public it serves. I note that a few other metropolitan municipalities have started providing monthly updates on their enforcement statistics – this has been the norm in Cape Town for many years. Our pilot project in Delft with the neighbourhood safety team, which added some 100 plus officers there every day, has shown good results and we would be in a position to expand this to our other hotspots with this extra budget,” he says.

The Western Cape Government has contributed R3m to bolster the Metro Police K9 Unit.

Plato says: “The Western Cape Government is determined to do everything it can to make this a safer Western Cape. That is why we have made additional funds available to support the City of Cape Town’s professionally staffed Law Enforcement team.

tended to help address drug-related crime.

Earlier this year, we transferred almost R4m to the City to support school resource officers. These funds go toward keeping our learners, and their learning spaces, safe from criminals.”

Provincial minister of community safety, Alan Winde, says that despite seven of the top 10 murder precincts being located in Cape Town, including the murder capital of SA, Nyanga, the National Government has refused to give the City enough police.

“In fact, they have gradually withdrawn 4500 cops from our streets over the last four years. I commend the City’s Law Enforcement agencies for the excellent work they do under challenging circumstances to fight crime in our city. They have increasingly stepped up to fill the gap in many areas where SAPS is failing, including gang violence, rail enforcement, liquor enforcement, metal theft and marine enforcement,’’ says Winde.

“We hear the pleas of our communities and we are responding. The people of Cape Town must feel safe, and while police remains the primary law enforcement authority, I want to make sure that, as the City of Cape Town, we play our part in doing everything we can to keep our communities safe,” says Plato.

People came from all over Cape Town to mourn lives lost to abortion outside Parliament.

Boost for safety and security The City of Cape Town is pulling out all the stops to beef up safety and security initiatives in communities across the city. An additional R165m has been made available to boost efforts against crime within the city.

The funding was announced by mayor Dan Plato during the Council sitting on Thursday last week. The money became available through budget adjustments, said Plato.

He added that the money will increase visible policing in vulnerable communities.

Additional funds will also be made available for much-needed capital projects like fire stations.

“This is just the start of our efforts to increase safety levels in our communities,” he says. “I want to see even more budget allocated to our enforcement agencies and rescue services in the next financial year.”

Plato says the public will have the opportunity to comment on the budget once it has been published in the City’s annual budget next month. He says the R165.2m allocation comprises capital expenditure of R42.2m and operating expenditure of R123m.

Some of the capital projects that will benefit from the allocation include: .R7.5m for the upgrade of the Ndabeni vehicle pound .R2.6m in additional funding for the Somerset West fire sation .R15m to procure between 36 and 40 replacement vehicles, depending on the type of vehicles required .R5.5m for additional two-way radios for

According to Plato during the 2017/18 financial year, the number of arrests made by the City’s enforcement agencies increased by 17% year-on-year, as outlined in the release of the annual statistics.

‘Learning from the best’ A

total of 49 new interns started their 12month internship with the City of Cape Town as part of the Urban Sustainability Internship Programme (USIP) for new graduates last Friday.

“The USIP is now in its 13th year and I’m elated to say that 422 interns participated in the programme to date, with 82 of them now working permanently for the City. The first of February is a big day for our new group of interns. They will be placed at different City departments where they will have access to and learn from some of the best professionals in our country. This is a once-ina-lifetime opportunity and I’m urging these young graduates to make use of every minute to learn and to gain experience,” says Mayco member for corporate services, Sharon Cottle.

The City is funding the interns’ stipends, capacity-building training programme, recruitment and induction.

The majority of the interns will be placed within the scarce skills categories such as economics, engineering, environment, heritage, renewable energy, urban design, landscaping, planning, surveying and architecture.“It’s important to promote the scarce skills study fields to young people as these skills are in demand. Finding employment is a challenge in the current economic

climate and gaining experience in scarce skills will make it significantly easier for them. It’s also a great return on investment for the City, which needs their skills and youthful enthusiasm within our ranks where they can assist us in becoming a more efficient and resilient administration,” says Cottle.

Each intern is placed with a specific manager who manages, mentors, guides and assists them.“The interns may be highly qualified in a specific field, but are typically fresh out of university and often lack practical workplace skills and experience. The interns are assigned specific tasks to ensure job-related training and we have, over the past 13 years, built up an excellent reputation. Interns are recruited through advertisements on the City’s website and in newspapers, as well as at universities. The City receives on average between 2 000 and 4 000 applications each year. An initial assessment is undertaken to select the top 200 potential candidates for interviews, and the successful candidates are then offered an internship with the City.

“Almost 70% of those who complete their internships find employment afterwards, with about 20% being permanently placed at the City. These figures are testimony of the quality of our internship programme.

Most of us remember our very first job, and sometimes our first day working for our own salary. We remember the pride and independence, and immense freedom that comes with being able to earn your own way. The internship provides learners with a quality work experience where they have access to some of the best professionals in this country. The skill set that they develop during this period is a solid foundation for their future careers,” says Cottle.

At the end of the 12-month programme, all interns and some of the new intake of interns attend an awards ceremony where the outstanding interns are recognised.

“We honoured the Class of 2018 on Thursday 24 January. I mentioned the importance of on-the-job training at this function, and said that we need more sponsorships from corporates and for other organisations to partner with us to keep this programme going. The Cape Town Carnival, held annually in March, is a year-long programme culminating in a street parade that showcases and celebrates the diversity of Cape Town and South Africa.

For several hours on a late-summer evening, more than 50 energetic and talented community performance groups, spectacular floats, giant puppets and extravagant costumes bring the Green Point Fan Walk alive, while thousands of spectators from all over the world converge along the 1.2km parade route.

This year, the Green Point Fan Walk will come alive with colour and splendour on Saturday 16 March.This is a free event that attracts thousands of spectators who celebrate the culture, diversity and creativity of the city, encouraging social cohesion.

Have you ever embarrassed yourself?

“I’m not the best singer, hey! One time I went up on stage at Manila Bar and performed ‘The Scientist’ by Coldplay and it required a low note and let’s just say I didnt hit any note. I forgot to mention this song came up directly after Craig Lucas sang something so obviously the crowd went crazy, and after I sang it was just a big no-no,

but I gave it my all and in the end it was a jol.”

Have you ever listened to someone at a karaoke and thought this person belongs on stage?

“Yes, all the time! There is so much talent out here in South Africa that is not recognised or even perused. Sometimes all I can do is stand in awe and cheer them on.”

More artists added to Jazz line-up Organisers of the world-renowned Cape Town International Jazz Festival (CTIJF), taking place on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 March at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, recently announced a further 15 artists from around the world as part of the 2019 line-up. Featuring artists from a variety of musical styles, the CTIJF 2019 line-up promises to satisfy the tastes of every music lover, with diverse audio explorations and the very best of the past, present and future of jazz genres.

Among the artists announced to be joining the line-up is modern jazz guitarist John Scofield who will perform with an inter-generational band for a musical combustion billed as John Scofield’s “COMBO 66”. The band features Vicente Archer, Gerald Clayton and Bill Stewart (USA).

Village Care Centre is a registered non-profit organisation that runs several programmes for school drop-outs who will often be found in the streets and they also have aftercare programmes. he 2019 motorsport season at Killarney International Raceway starts with a high-octane big-bore rumble at Passion for Speed sponsored by G-Energy on Saturday 9 February.

“Rumble” being the operative word, with races featuring classes for monster V8-engined cars both classic and modern in the Pre-68 Legends and V8 Masters categories.

You’ll also see (and more importantly, hear) screaming Ferraris, howling Lamborghinis and snarling Porsches battling it out for line honours in the G & H Extreme Supercar races.This exotic national racing series is open to GT supercars and high-performance sedans, led by a mix of GT3 sports racing cars

and locally built GT racers.

Not all the entries are in yet but the pace setter in these races is expected to be Stradale Motorsport team principal Charl Arangies from Vereeniging in Gauteng, who will be bringing either his Aston Martin Vantage GT3 V12 or his Lamborghini Gallardo GT3. Either way, he will start as favourite, with entries expected from Simola Hillclimb hero Franco Scribante in his Porsche 997 Turbo to mention a few.

The Pre-66 Production Cars and Little Giants races will feature monster V8s such as Ford Fairlanes and Mustangs, big Chevrolet sedans, hot Corvettes and more from the golden age before fuel restrictions, mixing

it with smaller and more nimble sports cars from the same period. Entries are expected from all over South Africa, as well as from Britain, Holland and Scandinavia for these international classic races.

A big field is expected for the Pre-1980 Classic and Invitation cars, practically guaranteeing close racing. Topping the entry list are Robin Forbes’ thundering 5.7-litre Corvette Stingray and the Ford Sapphire V6 of Steve Hallet, who have already confirmed their participation. They’ll have to put foot, however, to stay with Franco Donadio’s indecently quick Cosworth-engined Ford Escort Mk1, which is expected to set the pace.

A surprise new entry in this category is

the Ford Escort Mk1 of Willie Ras, also with 16-valve Cosworth power and nicknamed “Witblitz”, which is expected to be driven at this event by motorsport legend Sarel van der Merwe. If anybody can give Donadio and Forbes a hard time, it’s Supervan. Expect fireworks.

The 45-minute South African Tourist Trophy race will be the second and final leg of this series for classic sports and GT cars, which has also attracted a number of international entries. In addition, there will be races for Historic single-seaters (including Formula One cars from the 1960s) as well as the Mikes Place Clubmans series – regional racing at its very best.

shleigh Buhai’s seven-year wait for a third Ladies’ European Tour (LET) title ended in Cape Town when she won the Investec South African Women’s Open on the Sunshine Ladies’ Tour last March.

South Africa’s leading international golfer became the third player to achieve a hattrick of triumphs and she will take up her title defence when the R2m LET co-sanctioned showpiece returns to Westlake Golf Club from Thursday 14 to Sunday 16 March.

The world number 116 hopes to join LeeAnne Pace with four victories, but believes it will be a tougher task to reach the winner’s circle this year.

“When Investec took up the title sponsorship last year and put the Investec South African Women’s Open back on the LET schedule, the interest in the event really sparked and the tournament drew a strong field of international golfers,” said Buhai.

“I really had to work for the win and now that this year’s Sunshine Ladies’ Tour has two new events – the Jabra Ladies’ Classic at Glendower and the Team Championship at Serengeti – the depth of the field will be even stronger.

“With spots into two LET events, courtesy of the Investec South African Women’s Open and the Jabra Ladies’ Classic, we can expect an even bigger presence of LET players. Several Sunshine Ladies’ Tour players like Lejan Lewthwaite and Nobuhle Dlamini have also made huge strides over the last 12 months. Pace and Stacy Bregman are always dangerous and, if you factor in the international entries, the level of competition will be even higher.

“I am coming back with the goal of defending the title, but it won’t be a walk in the park. I will have to bring my A-game to Westlake to finish in front.”

Pace will also be back, chasing title number five, and Bregman, now the third highest ranked South African in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings at number 306, is targeting a maiden win.

near-capacity crowd flocked to Cape Town Stadium on Sunday 3 February to witness the first pre-season Super Rugby double-header.

The event, dubbed “Superhero Sunday”, signified the unique partnership between SA Rugby and Marvel, putting South African rugby in esteemed company.

Marvel has previously partnered with other sport codes, but this is the first such arrangement with a rugby union in Africa.

Each Super Rugby franchise was paired with a Marvel superhero, namely Thor (Stormers), Spider-Man (Lions), Black Panther (Sharks) and Captain America (Bulls).

It won’t be the last time the teams don these special jerseys – they will wear them exclusively in most SA derbies.

This collaboration echoes previous Marvel partnerships like the recent Australian Open and the National Rugby League where fans arrived daily dressed in the gear of popular Marvel characters to support their favourites.

In the day’s finale, the Stormers scored five tries in a thrilling 33-28 win against the Bulls.

The Stormers made an encouraging start and dominated territory and possession early on, but the opening try came from the defence as a big hit shook the ball loose for Scarra Ntubeni to pounce on. The hooker raced away before finding flyer Seabelo Senatla, who finished with ease.Flank Jaco Coetzee broke free soon after and surged into the 22 where he gave the ball to scrumhalf Jano Vermaak who was brought down. Flyhalf Josh Stander hit the ball at pace on a great angle to go over for the second try.The score went out to 21-0 when wing SP Marais intercepted and raced away, skipping out of the last tackle just short of the tryline and then thumping the conversion over as well.The Bulls responded with tries from flyhalf Handre Pollard and Ivan van Zyl to bring themselves within seven points.The Stormers made it four tries in the first half when No. 8 Juarno Augustus charged down and collected to score and although the Bulls had the final say in the first half with a try from fullback Warrick Gelant, the Stormers took a 26-21 advantage into the half-time break.The Bulls took the lead for the first time in the game just after half-time with a try from close range from flank Paul Schoeman which was converted by replacement Manie Libbok to put them 28-26 ahead.Both teams were impressive on defence in the second half, scrambling and holding out the waves of attacks.The Stormers put together a period of sustained pressure and they eventually found a way through as lock Chris van Zyl went over with just five minutes left to seal the 33-28 win.
