10 Ways to beat the January blues Yes we have over indulged. Yes we are broke. Yes it’s still a long way till pay day. But… Let’s not let this ruin our January. It’s the start of a new year, a clean slate. Let us embrace this cold desolate month! Here are my top 10 tips to beat those January blues.

1. Beware of the new year resolution We make our resolutions at the beginning of the year with absolute confidence. But as we all know some of these may slip and then the guilt factor kicks in. Don’t give yourself a hard time, this is one the hardest months of the year mentally, financially, emotionally & meteorologically. Maybe stick to the doable: Turn your phone off before you go to bed or a 3 minute stretch when you put the kettle on or drink more water. 2. Make leisure plans for your year It’s January, you have a whole year of exciting plans to make! Holidays, National trust places that you’ve paid for and never been to and trips with friends and family. Perfect time to sit, surf the net and check out the line ups for this years festivals. 3. Pick up a book Instead of flicking through Netflicks or Amazon. Post a message on social media asking for book reviews from your friends. Pick a recommended book that appeals to you the most and spend hour after hour gripped in throws of fiction. 4. Exercise The classic after Christmas choice for lifting those blues. Blow the cobwebs out with some cardio! Why not try something new? Dancing your thing? Clubbercise, Zumba or Lindyhop are fantastic! 5. Drink well We are made up of essentially 60 - 70% of water, so keeping our intake at a healthy amount is vital. There are many benefits of drinking 8 glasses of water per day: Helps prevent headaches and migraines, Energising, a quick glass of this stuff can perk you up. If you’re going to need to concentrate for extended periods of time, keep water handy to help you stay refreshed, hydrated, and focused. 6. Eat well Why not try your hand at a new seasonal dish with lots of seasonal veges. Spend an afternoon creating a culinary delight, then invite your friends round to share in your triumph! 7. Self Pamper for him & her This time of year can be tough on our skin. Wind, rain and central heating can dry out our skin. Take 1/2 ripe avocado and 1/2 cup of oatmeal. Cook the oatmeal as per on the oatmeal packet and mixed it well with the mashed avocado flesh until it turns smooth. Apply it on

your skin avoiding eyes and leave it on for 10-15 minutes or until it dries up. Once it’s done, rinse it off with lukewarm water and pat dry your skin with a soft towel. Ta da! 8. Start a new hobby Sports, arts & crafts or maybe amateur dramatics is your thing? I have discovered this awesome website which has so many hobbies and activities it’s hard to know where to start. Give it a go discoverahobby.com. 9. Cleaning session Break out the bins bags, tool up with cleaning products, clean your house and clear your mind. Put your best tunes on, roll up your sleeves and get stuck in. It always seems a lot worse than it actually is, when it’s done you will feel like the king/queen of your castle! 10. You are not alone Many of your friends and family maybe feeling the January blues too. It's all to easy to write on social media that "Everything is brilliant, life is fantastic (smiley face)" Realistically is this really the case? Reach out, pick up the phone, speak to someone, actually speak to someone. Even if you are totally skint, hanging out with friends, family or neighbours doesn’t cost a penny. Organise someone to come over for a cuppa and a catch up. Charlotte Every Therapists – Director Theperfectpamper.com Teampamper.com Everybodytherapy.co.uk
