“You didn’t hear it from me...”
Well my Dears, it seems that the spring has brought a lot
of the usual suspects out from the cold of winter hibernation. It seems that Crazy has led the pack with a vengeance. One of our favorite lunatics has gone for pure Tabloid gold with her antics. While most people like to have some semblance of normalcy in their lives, this special wonder spends most of her time praying to the saint of strait jackets and shock treatments. It seems that Florida was not a particularly good “environment” for said lunatic and she proceeded to head home with either some rare everglades disease that affects the brain or had been poisoned simultaneously by both her back alley Botox treatments and sun disease, in equal parts. To begin her rounds of insanity, she arrived at her home barn and was enraged that no one seemed to give her a “special” welcome home. I’m not sure where she has ridden all her life, but I digress, to show her anger she deliberately emptied out all of the shampoo and conditioners in the wash stalls. When this didn’t work she wrote on the barn’s chalkboard that she was “PROTESTING BIG TIME” at the judges decisions at her first show back where she got low ribbons behind her barn mates. That “EVERYONE” better be prepared to give up their ribbons. I don’t know if she thought that there would be some 2000 Bush/Gore election style recount or what she wanted but when the trainers confronted her she cussed them out and told them a few lovely things that obviously her supposed good breeding taught her. But her final piece de resistance was tearing out of the barn with such furry she plowed through a gate and flipped her SUV in a ditch and rolled into the front field. Luckily the horses in that field had come in, but unluckily for her in addition to the bill from the family who owns the farm, she was asked to never return and to have her horses moved within the week. It appears she was not the only person to have “Seen something nasty in the woodshed”. Another bizarre and useless phenomenon, who spends most of her time stalking riders and trainers on social media and supposedly breeding top quality show horses,
but unless Breyer’s count, she should at least own one horse before the Grand Opening of her Stud. Was asked to leave a stallion farm tour in the Mid-Atlantic a few weeks ago after she thought the many bottles of wine were some college challenge. By the time the group made it to the second farm she was so drunk, she was running up to the horses and staff red faced and slurring, shouting all sorts of random things and making no sense what-so-ever. The group tried to ignore her behavior but she ultimately became so sloppy she ended up in a heap on the ground and the organizers had her taken to the starting point where she slept on an office couch until almost midnight that night,. Now you might think that this was an unfortunate situation and there should be more sympathy for her, and there would be, but she proceeded to attack the tour organizer’s, the stables and the charity involved mercilessly on several bulletin boards the following few days. Even accusing them of encouraging her to get drunk. It seems alcohol has had a lot of effects this spring, and not in a positive way. While the “fantasy Breeder” was benign and irritating at worst, another so called horse person was far from it. With the gorgeous weather dotting Virginia, the race season has had some spectacular days for fun and merriment. Unfortunately some people are just always looking for misery and drama wherever they go and horses and booze don’t seem to help situations. While most people were enjoying the sunshine and good company and hospitality and amazing horses, this so called “member of society” was up to her old tricks causing trouble by talking trash about her so called friends. Unfortunately Champagne, mimosas, bloody Mary’s and Bellini’s made her forget who she was talking about and to whom. After insulting her friend to her friend’s fiancé, the situation went from bad to worse and she threw a heavy silver bowl filled with melting ice at the couple, bruising the woman’s wrist and denting a car parked behind them. Of course afterwards the offending mess, tried to throw up damage control with a multitude of drunken messages to people, which was about as effective as a beaver damn trying to control an ice cap melt. Well my Dear’s that’s enough for now, until next time, remember to keep your eyes and ears open. Until next time!

Buddy’s Tail... WOW... It’s hard to believe it’s been ten years! So much has happened over the time since we started the magazine. We’ve had our ups and downs, learned so much and worked with so many great people. We have great advertisers and amazing people who work with us on the magazine. All I need is a stage and a microphone and I might start naming everyone! Ok...so that’s not going to happen...I might be the KING around here, but I do have limited space in my column so I can’t thank or mention everyone...but you all know who you are! Thank you so much to everyone ... I don’t really know how we got started featuring dogs each year in our Anniversary Issue but I think it had to do with Cal West. If you don’t remember him, he was our very dedicated and colorful sales representative that passed away a few years ago. He loved dogs! He used to carry dog biscuits with him at the shows... he knew everyone’s dogs by name...and he loved this issue! He would gather photos of his favorite dogs for the feature. I bet he would love seeing all the awesome dogs in here this year! Speaking of awesome...you know I can’t skip talking a little baseball. My favorite team...yup...the Red Sox... has been playing great! Now I know it’s early in the season...and there is a LOT of baseball left to play... but after how badly we played last year...I’m happy to enjoy what we can. They might or might not keep going this way (they do remind me a bit of the 2004 team) and I hope they do...but it’s been exciting to watch them regardless.
www.theplaidhorse.com
On a sad note, you can’t mention Boston without bringing up the tragedy that occurred during the Boston Marathon. This was such a senseless thing and it is so sad that anyone would want to do something like this. So many people were hurt and lives were lost...for no good reason. One thing about our country though...when the worst happens, it brings out the best in it. There were so many heros that day. People that rushed to help those in need. Those are the people that symbolize what our country is all about. I wish peace and healing to all of those hurt that day. Well I’m going to head back out to eat some grass and reflect on the journey of the magazine up to now. When we first decided to publish a magazine...we didn’t know what was in store for us...it’s been a great journey and it’s not over ...let’s see what the next ten years brings our way! Until next time...be an original and don’t run with the herd!

Application Deadline Approaching for USHJA Emerging Athletes Clinic at Colorado Horse Park The Colorado Horse Park is pleased to announce that they will be hosting the United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA), Zone 8 Emerging Athletes Program (EAP) June 25-28, 2013. The deadline for application is fast approaching. Young riders have until Monday, April 29, 2013 to apply. Each year, hundreds of young riders apply to the Emerging Athletes Program in hopes of furthering their education, not only as riders, but as complete horsemen. The EAP creates opportunities for young riders to advance their education as they strive to become knowledgeable horsemen within the hunter/jumper community. The Colorado Horse Park will be the ideal setting and athletes will be at the facility in the midst of the amazing Colorado Horse Park “Summer Circuit”. The place will buzz with activity! Ten EAP Regional Clinics are offered throughout the country during the months of June, July and August, with a total of 24 riders selected for each clinic. During these four-day clinics, riders have the opportunity to work with top riding clinicians and stable managers. Regional Clinic attendees are instructed on flatwork, gymnastics, related distances and course work, in addition to participating in an intensive stable-management curriculum. Riders also complete a written test as part of their evaluation for the National Training Session. Sixteen riders are selected to advance to the EAP National Training Session where one rider is named the EAP Champion and receives a $3,000 grant for advanced training. The Colorado Horse Park is pleased to have Cynthia Hankins as the Zone 8 clinician this year. Hankins was a junior equitation star, having placed in the top ten of several equitation finals before winning the USEF Medal Finals in 1975. She spent much of her professional career traveling between the U.S. and France, where she rides and trains at a top breeding farm. Many of her students have gone on to become successful professionals within the hunter/jumper community.
· Must not have reached their 21st birthday before December 1 of the current competition year according to USEF rules. · Must be able to display proficiency in completing jumper style courses set at 1.10m or higher. Riders are expected to supply the horse they ride in the Regional Clinic, and the horse should be comfortable jumping a course at 1.10m.
Hankins holds an “R” judge’s license in both Hunter and Hunter Equitation and has judged numerous shows in the United States and France including several equitation finals and most recently the 2011 Maclay Finals at the National Horse Show in Lexington, KY.
· May not have competed in classes over 1.35m in height at the time of application and may not have competed in FEI Championships for jumping, such as Young Riders or Children’s International Jumping Competition.
In addition to judging and training, Hankins shares her knowledge and expertise with riders as a top clinician and in the articles she contributes to publications such as The Chronicle of the Horse and Practical Horseman.
· Must pass the Level One USHJA Horsemanship Quiz Challenge with a score of 80% or higher.
In order to be considered for the Emerging Athletes Program, riders: · Must be a current member of USHJA in good standing.
For application procedures please visit: http://www.ushja.org/programs/eap/eap_apply.aspx For more information contact clinic organizer Vivien Van Buren at VNIVIV@CS.com

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
Gwen ~ loved and missed by Frank & Barbara Delano
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
Liz Callar
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Tom and Tracy Brennan’s much loved Scruffy
