7TH - 12TH OCT 7:30PM, 2PM, 5PM £12.50 (£9.50 CONC)

The son of a boxer who couldn’t win, Flynn is determined not to end up like his father. He becomes a successful fighter through utter dedication. But is his gruelling training a way of avoiding aspects of himself he’d rather not face?

Critically acclaimed and award winning theatre company NIE - New International Encounter return to the Pleasance with their mix of physical theatre, multiple languages, and immersive storytelling.

A crisis builds as he moves closer to a title fight, and the play rushes to a shattering conclusion. Shadow Boxing presents a struggle for dignity and respect. It pulls no punches in its depiction of a boxer facing his toughest opponents yet, his personal demons.

Five actor-musicians, in a set constructed of 70m2 of rusty draws, explore the way that one life touches another, the important things that pass between us and the ripples and echoes that we leave behind in their new show.

14TH OCT - 1ST NOV 7:45PM, 5PM £12 (£10 CONC) Midnight at the Dartford Crossing; Roland’s settled in for another thrilling night supervising the toll machines; Andrea’s pretty sure she’s come to kill herself. Neither of them wants to be there. Both think the other’s crazy. Still, it’s nice to have company. Two strangers on a bridge in the dead of night, a game of dominoes, and a value ready meal – HighTide Escalator playwright Vinay Patel’s new play explores humanity, desperation and hope. Fresh from the success of his debut play True Brits (“an intelligent, beautiful piece of theatre”, Broadway Baby) at Edinburgh Fringe, Free Fall is Vinay Patel’s first piece to be staged in London and is directed by the multi-award winning Bethany Pitts (Spine at Underbelly/Soho - Fringe First, Herald Angel, Stage Award) and designed by the OFFIE nominated Petra Hjortsberg (Occupied at Theatre503). Spring 1944 - Seven Soviet soldiers have been captured by the Nazis, imprisoned naked and without possessions in the empty cellar of a monastery and then abandoned by their captors. Stripped of all ties to their world before, the prisoners abandon and redefine their concepts of order, society, and human nature. To survive, the men contemplate murder and cannibalism. How do they reconcile rank, faith, dignity and humanity? Powerful, thought-provoking and darkly funny, The Curing Room comes to London after causing a huge stir at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Written by David Ian Lee and directed by Joao de Sousa, The Curing Room is a bold, shocking thriller based on true events. “Violent and explicit, quietly moving” Libby Purves “Powerful stuff” The Guardian “A tense drama... richly scripted” The Observer
