One of our key values at ORI London is to ‘Have Care’—for our customers, our team, our planet, and our communities.

At ORI London we make our products in a sustainable way. Since 2020 we have been using recycled materials for the main material of our bags and backpacks.

Every day, over 100 million plastic bottles are used worldwide, and 80% never get recycled and end up in our landfills, or worse, the ocean. With an ever-growing population—and the rise of fast fashion and throw-away culture—there’s been a drive to rethink how we consume products. We all should do our bit to reuse, repurpose and recycle—to reduce carbon and manufacturing emissions.

Our recycled Canvas material used in many of our bags is made from post-consumer waste, recycled PET material (polyethylene terephthalate, raw petroleum-based material) that is widely used in plastic bottles and food packaging worldwide. Recycled PET (or RPET) gives new life to a material that’s not biodegradable.

Born from British Weather

ORI London is the story of two people – Emma, from London, UK and Brett from warm and sunny South Africa. They met on their travels and fell in love, after a short romance Brett moved to London to be with Emma. With over 20 years experience in fashion retail, and dressed in jeans, flip flops, an old backpack and a trusted notebook, Brett headed off to Oxford Street to look for inspiration for a new business. What started off as a sunny day ended in a typical British downpour and Brett came home soaked to the skin. And it wasn’t just Brett who was drenched – everything he had in his backpack was wet too!

That drenching was the birth of ROKA and we have gone on to sell water-resistant backpacks and bags throughout the world from our base in London. In 2022 we launched the brand ORI London in the USA (unfortunately we couldn’t use the name ROKA). Both ORI + ROKA share the same products, the same brand philosophy and values… and if you want to know why we chose the name ORI, it is the name of Emma and Brett’s first child!

Our recycled Nylon material uses pre-consumer waste–that’s waste created in the manufacturing process that never made it to the consumer for one reason or another, such as scraps, rejects, offcuts and trimmings. The material is made from recycled fibers that are spun into new yarn, reusing materials that would otherwise end up as industrial waste in landfill.

Both our recycled nylon and canvas materials are water-resistant and coated with C0 water-repellent. No PFOS or PFOA are used in the process and the coating is compliant with US laws. We don’t use any animal products and all ORI bags and backpacks are vegan-friendly and arrive in cornstarch-based, biodegradable packaging.

ORI London has recently achieved a B Corp Certification. This designation ensures our business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials.
