It’s All About The Smarts! By Wren
Did you know that there are eight different types of learning intelligences? Howard Gardner, a Professor of Education at Harvard University, proposed that there are a number of types of intelligence. He also said that we are not born with all the intelligences we will ever have, we can develop them. In each newsletter we will explore the different types. See if you can identify with any of them! We will be naturally stronger in some than others; but know that we are all individuals. YOU BE YOU!

INTERVIEW WITH AN AUTHOR By Maya and Wren On Thursday, Year 5 were given the opportunity to meet Sufiya Ahmed! We were so lucky to have our questions answered and gain more information. She is a historical fiction writer who uses facts and turns it into a story! She likes to write books and read as her hobbies. Her dream was always to be a children’s book writer and it came true! Time to get to know her better….. Sufiya Ahmed’s interest in human rights began at a young age when she used to watch the evening news with her Dad! She used to practise writing when her Mum got her a copy of The Twits. Copying half of it down in her exercise notebook, her imagination was freed as she recreated the ending! Her favourite genre of writing is adventure! Sufiya had lots of tips to tell us - be sure to check out the full article published recently in The Lion!
A SHAKESPEARE STORY by Anu and Amelie
On the afternoon of Thursday 5th of October, Year 6 had a special treat; a spectacular performance of ‘Romeo & Juliet’, which was a wonderful experience. It all started with the Sky Blue Theatre Company telling us all about 10 out of the 37 plays written by the wondrous William Shakespeare - not including the 154 sonnets! We were told about the trauma of ‘Hamlet’ to the magical comedy and confusion of ‘A Midsummer Night's Dream’. It was expertly directed with music setting the scene and props as well as fancy costumes. After lunch the whole of the year gathered, buzzing with excitement, in the hall to watch this tragedy ( turned into a comedy ) acted out by some children. Alex and Chris guided our actors through the play with a few questions for the audience and jokes along the way! In the end, Year 6 really enjoyed the workshop and were inspired and motivated to learn more!

PGS TAKES BEBRAS WIN! by Eric
Eric Zhang, a pupil in Year 5, has won 1st place in the Bebras Challenge which students from all over the country take part in. This is a fantastic achievement for both him and the whole of PGS. Here is some information from him. “I am so surprised and happy to have won such an honourable award” “How has your life changed after winning the Bebras Challenge?” I asked him. He responded, telling me that it has changed his life a lot. “People recognize me when I walk through the streets.” After the Q&A with Eric, you can see his life has changed. With hundreds of thousands competing within this competition in his age group, a year 5 winning this competition is highly impressive and a commendable feat.
HOMEWORK - THE DEBATE! by Rio
Hateful homework horrors, brain-bending, bossy tests. Everyone hates homework! Right?! Or maybe not! Can it be an excellent opportunity to extend our knowledge and take control of learning? For some, homework can be stressful but here is some excellent advice from senior school pupils on how they handle homework! 1. When you're feeling stressed, take brain breaks. For example, just lying down in your bed eating for a bit might help you. (Do not play video games, it will make you more stressed when you go back to homework). 2. Get a parent/guardian to help about the situation, tell the adult how hard the homework is. They might give you useful information so you can chill and cool down like a melting ice cube. Ahh.. 3. Try resisting the stress by having inner perseverance or confidence. It is important to achieve this goal so you can at least have some backups in your brain to fight against the mean, stressed neurons! “It has to be balanced, do pieces of homework every day but do not do the whole homework as it can make you unmotivated to do it. It is okay to sometimes not do homework on some days! (BUT MAKE SURE TO DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND BRING IT IN ON MONDAY)” What are your thoughts on homework? Be sure to let us know!
When you’re struggling with homework and feeling bad And you’re really sad, don`t think about it as a distraught demise... Think about it as a successful radical rise - Rio Kabeer
A Day In The Life Of A Teacher By Maya and Wren Have you ever wondered what a teacher feels? The annoyance of children being silly, the hard work they put into making a day AMAZING for you? Now… I think that we need more appreciation for our educational help. So now try and think with the mindset of a teacher… Imagine what it must be like! Children chatting and teachers still trying to educate them makes them truly empathetic and filled with love and care for their students. So, we must help them as they keep supporting us in our learning as they keep striding onwards to their goal, keeping our brains sharp and in form. They feel our pain, our struggles, and our preferences. What do you think? Would you like to be a teacher?

HALLOWEEK DISCO - A SPOOKTASTIC EVENING! by Sophia and Amelie
“It was the event of the term and everyone was excited to be there!” -A Year 6 Pupil
This term, Year 5 and 6 attended the annual Halloween Disco! There was an epic DJ who gave out so many magnificent prizes. They did boys VS girls and they did a dance off! It was so spooky. There was a brilliant bubble machine and a stupendous steam machine! It was held in the DRT and in the lunchroom. There were so many sweets and chocolates. There was even an alien costume, a ghost costume and a group of pink ladies. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed the evening.
MUSICIANS UNITE! by Wren and Maya This term, musicians in the Junior School got to expereince life in an orchestra. Brass Band, the Purreli Orchestra and the woodwind Orchestra went to the DRT (The David Russell Theatre.) We all rehearsed in different places and then we all came together and performed in front of all the parents. We all had cookies and drinks and refreshments afterwards! “From my view as a Tuba player, I think Tuesday was really eventful! We played with the Senior school to create a whole Orchestra made up of the Purreli Orchestra, Brass Band, Woodwind and Jazz! In the end we ended up practising the same piece to put together with everyone to play to the parents.” The orchestra had people from other schools and the seniors come which was an amazing experience. We all played a piece called Pirates of the Caribbean and were playing the part of the Medallion and then we joined up with the woodwind orchestra and the jazz band.
