As Nelson Mandela Marches On By Bayo Omolola

The humming of mosquito, Disturbs never The wall; Never cracks It is iron-made rack. The wind that blew ‘And threw The lees through The Sieve Never would it break a concrete wall wellfortified. Nelson Man Mandela Like an iron, Strong unbendable, Too tough for racists But subtle his the language of humanity pervaded the ground And the drum of freedom Jumped and echoed for all dignity And in a nation of all sanity. Down at the radiant feet of Africa, Rose no nonsense but cordial man that offered care. The iron resisted the uncaring benders. The lion resisted color-based sadists Even in the cage, Where he lived with the rage Against injustice. The lion’s roared, And the world knew. Deep in thoughts and in deeds, Strong in will And in actions. One man, too many for the perpetrators of racial segregation, Unique in actions at his tender age; Unique during his youthful days. Unique in reactions at his point of exit. Dead but alive. He that resisted oppressions And suppressed domination.

Unique Leader with words And decent actions. Considerate political path-maker And office holder That never hid public folder. Transparent Never was he like others who cherished house rent And conversion to personal use government property. Boxer that boxed two enemies and won: It’s Nelson Mandela that fought racism and won. He that fought death for long and won. One man, Too powerful for his enemies. Friends of the world today And tomorrow. The man that never dies, In transit you’re; The man that will never die, You’re, Nelson Mandela: Adieu, Madiba, as you take a giant’s leap! Adieu, Madiba, as you smile And wave around the world! Adieu, Madiba, As you take new form with the same strong spirit That radiates reconciliation Transformation, Love, And happiness for all! Adieu, The strong, universal man from the beautiful feet of Africa! The smiling father of Africa And friend of truth! The most accomplished freedom fighter all decades within 95 and beyond. Adieu! Think On These Things By Reverend Juanita G. Wingo

Mind Your Business!

I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. Psalm 40:1 Sometimes it appears as though our prayers are not working. We are confident when we pray that we will get a response. We believe the response will be as we imagine. We just know that because we have prayed God will answer, and he will answer the way we want him to answer. We give him deadlines and dates and names and categories. We describe our circumstances and tell him all about our troubles. We tell him when and where and how to answer. Then we sit back, watching the clock, counting the minutes, waiting for the answer to appear as though it is an order on a fast food menu. Imagine our disappointment when things don’t go the way we prayed. Wait a minute, God. It was supposed to happen this way, God. Things should be straightened out by now, God. What happened, God? On and on and on we go: Questioning God, second-guessing God, doubting God. We know we got the prayer right. We know we prayed correctly and accurately. We prayed according to the Word and according to his will. We know we gave God all the information he needs. We described it, defined it,

listed it, backed it up with scripture, and thanked him adequately in advance. We have hope. We have faith. We believe. But we lack patience. And we are all up in God’s business. After you have prayed and you get the release that lets you know you have prayed long enough on this matter, put it in God’s hands and go on about your business. You can’t tell God how to answer. You can’t tell God what to do. You can’t charm him with your high praises. You can’t manipulate him with your thanksgiving. Just wait and mind your business. God has heard your prayer. After you have called upon him, wait patiently for him. In this instantaneous generation where everything has to be quick, we are entering into a season of delineation. Clear lines are being drawn and territory is being established: Yours and God’s. There is a separation taking place: Your business and God’s business. You mind your business and let God mind his. Things are happening now over which you have no control. Take your hands off your prayers. They are in God’s hands now. He has heard you.

The Church Tea I’m still feeling the afterglow of all the holiday festivities and I began to wonder where and who is the next Mandela, Martin or Malcom. Is it you or are you nurturing him or her right now? Just the prospects that one of those great people could be in our mist right now is exuberating. I hope over the holidays you praised and danced your heels off. Letting people see that being a Christian doesn’t mean were grumpy and reading the bible before we even respond to a question. It means we live what we believe and rejoice in this moment. So many wonderful events that transformed lives over this past month it’s hard to concentrate on just one. However, the best church Christmas party I attended, transformed a room into a winter wonderland and it looked like a 5 star hotel worthy of a ticket with a $75.00 cost. The food was healthy, lots of fruit in particular. One dish was a cantaloupe and seafood salad. Those two combinations sounds odd, but it actually was very tasty. It’s really refreshing to see our churches take an active role in healthy eating. Especially for our people, it means sometimes developing

a taste for non- traditional meals that we did not grow up eating. Now that many of us have committed ourselves to fitness, diets and ceasing unhealthy relationships this year, just remember to love yourself a little bit more. Reach out to someone who would not expect it. Don’t ever get stuck in that box that deadens your ability to think outside your comfort level. This year dance more, live more, dream more, be more. Until next time Mr. or Ms. Future Mandela it was nice speaking with you. Email me: TheChurchTea.power@gmail.com
