Think On These Things By Reverend Juanita G. Wingo ~Reprint from July 2012~
Preparation Prepare ye the way of the Lord. Mark 1:3 We must be very careful of expecting something from an unprepared people. People’s hearts must be prepared to receive anything from God. An unprepared people may reject the unfamiliar and the unknown. Preparation is the key when God is releasing the blessings. If we expect people to be ready to receive from God, we must help them to get ready. They may not always see the hand of God. They may not always recognize Him when He comes. We must fast and pray for people to receive the news that change is coming or that something new is about to happen. God is moving in a new and different way. If we look for the same way God has moved in the past, we may miss what He is doing now. Be the voice crying in the wilderness of hopelessness, despair, need and want. Pray that people will be ready for the move of God that is coming.

The Church Tea
“The Best ‘In’ Both Worlds” Rev. Kevin Andre Brooks, who is the Pastor of Gethsemane A.M.E. Church and the executive director of the Freedom Community Development Corporation (a nonprofit faith-based community-improvement organization), was recently elected to the Democratic State of Maryland Central Committee. He considers himself a churchman and a statesman. Baltimore citizens have indeed made a unique choice. Rev. Brooks is an experienced educator in secondary education -- where he served as principal for twenty years in the Baltimore City Public School system. No doubt his skills in grant writing, budget management, academic advising and community organizing leave him more than qualified to handle his new, elected position. It is here at the Power Magazine that he wishes to again thank his supporters. While speaking to Rev. Brooks during this interview, he relayed a brilliant strategy to me… Long before government and social media on the Internet existed, black people depended on each other and the black church. The church knew the needs of the community and the apathy among the people, which was and continues to be a daily struggle. In fact, the church was the hub zone for our communities. The pastors and local members knew the hurts and aspirations of their congregation. Although many ministers struggle with the misconceptions of the pastors’ perceived glorified life, it takes real honor and commitment to stand in the shoes of ministers like Rev. Brooks. So often we struggle with complacency while others in government-elected positions
make decisions not in the best interest of our communities. As a new political leadership has arisen, Rev. Brooks stands at the forefront by the grace of God to say, “Here I am, Lord, send me.“
Rev. Brooks is also the president of the A.M.E. Ministerial Alliance in Baltimore and surrounding areas. He will use his resources and talents to unite the local pastors. In this duel position of pastor and newly elected official he will have optimal access to two forces, which are often estranged -- church and state. As Christians, let’s take the time to lift up all of our pastors and elected officials. They must remain strong in the spiritual and physical world, even when members do not appreciate their sacrifices. Ephesians 6:12 tells us that we struggle not with flesh and blood, but against powers, against spiritual forces of wickedness in high places. So let’s pray for our pastors in the areas of their strength and weakness. We cannot know what tomorrow brings for anyone, but we do know who holds tomorrow. 1 Timothy 2:1-2 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
